The NYC Open Restaurants Clustershanty Of Koreatown

Midtown, Manhattan, New York.

It wasn’t much long ago when yours truly did a expansive on the street eyewitness story about the much ballyhooed NYC Open Restaurants program (albeit ballyhooed by our feckless and bought elected officials in NYC Council, former mayor Bill de Blasio and current Mayor Eric Adams) and what an actual clusterfuck it was and making a case out it shouldn’t exist anymore. Now thanks to a judge’s recent decision to order the city to make a thorough environmental review of the restaurant shanties all over the five boroughs, it has thankfully put a pounding kibosh on the City Council Cronies plan to make these unsafe, blighted, filthy, ugly and traffic congesting eyesores a permanent part of the street infrastructure which the restaurants have been using for free for the last two years.

But before the Council Cronies begin their study, I would like to present exhibit A on why every public space these restaurants has usurped must cease to exist and that’s the massive triple cluster shanty on the southwest corner of 32nd St. and 5th Ave, just two blocks away from the Empire State Building.

This is truly the tipping point of public space misuse and the heinous blight that has befouled the streets in the last year, which continues unencumbered because of the willful obliviousness of elected officials and the persistent bickering demands of the hospitality industrial complex lobby, represented by some neoliberal runt named Andrew Rigie.

Behold.

All these shanties contain an abundance of potted ferns that looked like they haven’t been watered in months. These pics here are actually from December. Who knows what kind of bacteria are hording in these zombie plants

Now it’s springtime 2022 and look and the only thing that’s bloomed inside is refuse.

Judging by the broken plexiglass on all three of these shanties, it looks like some of the city’s 5,000 street homeless decided to use them as shelters. And why the hell not? Because these neglected shanties exactly resembled the city’s equally notorious cluster site building shelters by it’s aesthetics and atmosphere.

Clearly the yellow gates did not deter vagrants from trying to get warmth from the brutal cold winter the city just had.

(Can’t help thinking about how most of this broken plexiglass might have been retrofitted and weaponized as shivs with all the slashings and stabbings going on in the last 5 months.)

What’s interesting about this cluster shanty site is that it’s not even next to a restaurant, which actually goes against the rules to build one on the city streets according to the flaccid set of rules for them set by city council and the Department of Transportation, but it’s actually next to an empty commercial building lot that happens to be occupied with a bunch of other tables and similar plants and ferns inside there. And the lot is also grossly unkempt and blighted.

Apparently, this open restaurants ground zero disaster area was once a foodie event space run by a startup called “cookspace”, which from the optics here has turned out to be another tech company that went belly up during the pandemic.

Even though it is amazingly clear that they were able to salvage their business project and also had the opportunity to add more seating on the dirty street curb thanks to the state and city’s concentrated efforts to save the restaurant industry only. (Illustrated by the enthusiasm by Koreatown’s district council crony rep Keith Powers)

Their website for Maiden Korea has clearly not been updated to reflect the reality of the zombie cluster site they left behind.

It’s amazing how fast this business venture died so fast after building this “oasis” less than a year ago.

MaidenKorea fair use

So what the fuck happened to MaidenKorea? You know what, who cares? What’s important is that their investors bailed out of this venture that was created under the rubric of “saving small businesses” just like the city council cronies and hospitality lobby’s picayune embellished claims that these eyesore shanties saved small businesses also and the cretins behind this effort left town this cluster shanty site to rot and who knows when it’s ever going to be razed, since City Council’s brainless legislating has made the city’s street curb spaces a free-for-all land grab and left it the purview of them solely to the Department of Transportation instead of making the regulating of these shanties with the Department of Buildings (and also the Department of Health being that they are standing atop of asphalt with vehicles and their emissions passing by).

Since MaidenKorea is not around anymore to take responsibility for the mess they left behind, maybe the person or LLC that owns the lot might want to be notified, cited and punitively fined for leaving the property and the shanties in such horrid and hazardous conditions but forgettaboutit. The only record of an owner here is non-existent according to the D.O.B..

Which begs the question…does the city own this lot? And does Council Member Keith Powers know something about this and the tech foodie startup that built this grotesque oasis they abandoned? Does cookspace even exist?

This is exactly why every one of these shanties have to fucking go down, especially this cluster shanty site in Koreatown that isn’t even accounted for. And if this shit continues to clog up and foul this corner eventually it will be considered a superfund site.

Besides the justification to keep them is over. Mayor Adams got rid of de Blasio’s stupid ass key to NYC vaccine passport and everyone can eat indoors again because COVID is fucking endemic. If all these high end restaurants want to have extra seating, they can open another restaurant in an empty commercial space and stop usurping much needed parking spaces for people and ample room for the FDNY, NYPD and EMTs to get to their emergencies unobstructed. The streets aren’t free and the taxpayers shouldn’t subsidize them anymore.

I rest my case.

New Bad Days 90: The Descent Of Times Square Continues With Psycho Pushing Woman Into A Moving Train And A Man Shooting Himself While Taking A Piss At The Same Station, And A Thief Running Down And Killing A Woman While Fleeing With A Stolen Celly; Jewel Runner Gang Gets Kettled By The NYPD During Another High End Heist; Murdered Harlem Druglord Gets His Comeuppance For Past Killings And Being A Government Snitch; App Food Delivery Man Gets Murdered For His Ebike; Subway Crime Rates Rise Again With Man Shooting A Commuter For His Celly And Man Punching A Woman In The Face For Talking Back To Him; Wild West Shootings And Shootouts From Gunslinging Gangbangers Of All Ages Are Going Down Night And Day; Bagged Dead Body Found By Luxury Public Housing Development; Reckless Driving Hits New Plateaus With Hit-And-Run Killings; Pyromaniac Attempts To Torch Deli With Molotovs; Man Gets Yelled At By His Mother And Climbs A Tree; Vaccinations Cannot Stop Violence In Gold Standard Schools And The Elderly Continue To Get Preyed Upon By Desperate And Maniacal Perps

To start off chapter 90 of the New Bad Days chronicles of New York City, here is this tweet straight from some putz who works for NYC Council, trying to snarkily dispel any criticism or even palpable evidence that the city they represent is “dead”. Well it may not be dead, but it sure is bleeding, wounded and fucking more dangerous than it’s been in over 20 years (and fucking broke as well but that’s for another inevitable post) with 121 percent more shootings this month compared to October 2020, emphasized by the shooting deaths of teenagers in gun and gang violence. And all this is happening during Mayor deBacle’s recovery for all of us.

In October’s post about NYPD’s compstat index crime stats on the NYC Mayor’s website and despite how it was pathetically white washed, there were 399 murders committed in 2021 which is just 8 shy of the total for the entire year of 2020. Other crimes that have exceeded the totals of last year are rapes with 1,241, robberies with 10,822, grand larcenies with 30,768 (!!!!) and auto theft with 8,084 (the only “improvement” is the decrease in burglaries even though there were still 10,000 committed).

Keep up the snark city council cronies, because those red flags only symbolize the blood that’s spilled this month and all year long.

Manhattan

In Times Square at the 42nd St. Station, a woman got up from a bench and randomly pushed another woman off the platform and missed killing her by a second as the 1 train was arriving, but still caused serious injuries to the victim who fell back onto the concrete from the impact of getting hit by the train. Then the woman casually walked away.

The mentally ill woman had multiple priors for charges of assault and robbery, her most recent offenses were robbing a cellphone after scratching a woman’s face and savagely beating down a woman on the A train after getting into and argument with a man who shoved her and a judge released her with a desk appearance ticket for breaking her victim’s nose and knocking her teeth out. This time a smart judge imprisoned her on $100,000 bail and charged her with murder.

Also in Times Square and also at the same station, a man shot himself in the leg while taking a piss on the platform.

Again in Times Square at the 42nd St. Station on 8th Ave., a homeless man ripped the wallet out of another man’s hand after he refused to give him money.

And again in Times Square, a man yelled racial slurs and threatened to stab a woman on the street in broad daylight.

And again in Times Square, a homeless man snatched a cellphone off a woman on the street and then shoved another woman onto the pavement when he was running away. The woman wound up in a coma after landing her head on the curb from the fall and died from her injury days later, leading the judge to charge him with murder at his arraignment.

And again in Times Square, a homeless man committed suicide by lying  on the asphalt under a parked box truck as the driver was unaware he was there as he started moving and ran over him.

In Harlem, two boys were shot in the back and head inside a fried chicken restaurant while they were eating dinner.

Also in Harlem , a man got into a shootout with cops at his apartment when they showed up to arrest him on a warrant for an assault he committed on his girlfriend and kidnapped their child on the street in the late spring. Then the man committed suicide by blowing his brains out during a three hour standoff with the cops.

Again in Harlem, a belligerent reprobate opened an emergency window on a city bus and climbed out of it while two passengers held onto him since the bus was still moving. The reprobate then bit and spat on a mans hand who was holding him and spat on the other man as they were preventing the jerk from hurting himself.  When the bus stopped, the reprobate spat on the other man who reacted by pushing him out along with his shopping bags. The reprobate then built up a wad of saliva and snot in his mouth and wouldn’t leave until he spat on him again.

And again in Harlem, a 3-year-old boy fell out of a third floor apartment window and died through a crevice covered with cardboard that was taped next to an air conditioner when he playing on his bed.

And again in Harlem, a gang of four young men chased a 14-year-old boy down the street and into a city bus and then one of them shot at him twice, grazing his head and the bus driver on his hand.

And again in Harlem, an off-duty C.O. beat up his girlfriend in a domestic dispute at his apartment.

And again in Harlem, a 17-year-old boy got shot to death from a point blank blast to his chest when he came out of a McDonalds.

And again in Harlem, an infamous drug lord and FBI informant got shot to death while sitting in his pickup truck as he was dumping drugs out of his window thinking the cops were on his tail but it ultimately turned out to be rivals looking for revenge for a gangland murder of a fellow drug dealer and best friend 32 years ago. The dead snitch was also responsible for 12 other killings.

Also in East Harlem, a man crashed into a stone column while speeding on the exit ramp coming off the FDR Drive.

Again in East Harlem, an off-duty firefighter crashed his car into a parked vehicle while driving drunk.

And again in East Harlem, a man got killed while riding a citibike when he got hit by a car driven by a man with a suspended license.

And again in East Harlem, a man shot another man to death under a building scaffolding in the dead of night.

And again in East Harlem, a man known to be a nuisance in the area hassled a deli worker to give him store credit for loosies and threatened to shoot him when he got rejected. Then he went on a rampage and banged on the deli’s windows, which provoked the deli worker, who came out with a golf club, and his co-worker to chase him away. But the man remained and got into a tussle with the deli worker, who swung the club at him and missed him and then the man stabbed him to death.

In Midtown, a man bumped into a woman while riding his bike on the sidewalk and called her a xenophobic slur.

Also in Midtown, hundreds of people told Mayor de Blasio to go fuck himself and called him an asshole as he was marching in the Columbus Day Parade with his minion staffers, who collectively clapped their hands and cheered the mayor so his ears wouldn’t hear and his brain wouldn’t register the derision and loathing from his constituents who are sick of his big ugly face.

Again in Midtown, a man running to be mayor of New York City ran into ongoing traffic against the red light and got hit by a taxi cab and broke his arm.

And again in Midtown, a man got caught stealing baquettes by a pregnant worker from a high end chain bakery but escaped after he punched her and knocked her to the floor.

In the Upper West Side, a man shot another man who was sitting in his car while parked during a drive-by.

Also in the Upper West Side, a man riding a citibike on the expressway got killed when an unlicensed driver hit him with his car.

Again in the Upper West Side, three teenage boys accosted an 82-year-old woman inside a movie theater and then stole her purse. The hooligans also robbed another woman’s purse who saw the crime go down and robbed a man’s bookbag on the way out. If anything, since they were allowed inside the building, at least they were vaccinated.

And again in the Upper West Side, a 71-year-old man caught a stray bullet in the leg from gangbangers engaging in a shootout nearby an elementary school. Three suspects hopped in a car and fled the crime scene.

In the Upper East Side at the 63rd St./Lexington Ave. Station, a 16-year-old girl climbed down onto the trackbed and decided to commute by foot to Queens by going through the subway tunnel. The girl was met by cops at the 21 st./Queensbridge Station who removed her from the tracks.

Also in the Upper East Side, a super freaky woman with a microphone ambushed Mayor-elect Eric Adams on the sidewalk as he was walking to a campaign stump with his powerful elected Democrat Party allies and then she disrupted their booster rally by asking Adams if he’s a dirty cop.

Then the hilarious woman curses out fauxgressive council crony Ydanis Rodriguez and a security guard for getting in her way.

This is all you need to know about how they all felt about her presence. You can’t be afraid of a woman with powder on her tits.

Adams interrupted

In Washington Heights, a man got shot to death during a drug deal gone bad in front of an apartment building.

Also in Washington Heights, a man attacked a woman napping on a park bench and ripped off her clothes and then attacked another woman nine days later at the same park and tried to rip her clothes off at knifepoint but the woman fought back and ran.

Again in Washington Heights, a 7-year-old boy died in a fire inside an illegal conversion basement apartment that was caused by a faulty power strip. The blaze also left his grandmother, father and two other relatives who lived there homeless.

In NoMad, cops on patrol caught three men suspected of pulling off high end in a black Benz with tinted windows by a restaurant, and when two patrol cars cornered them the driver sped down the sidewalk and nearly ran over dozens of people milling in front of a restaurant, compelling one of the cops to shoot at the vehicle and blowing out the windows and windshield. Two of the thieves then abandoned the fancy car and ran, but the cops were able to catch and arrest one of them trying to escape. The perp is currently imprisoned on a weapons possession charge and $50,000 bail.

The NYPD is linking these gunpoint heists to one gang and estimate that over $4,000,000 in jewels have been plundered in the last 3 months in 3 of the 5 boroughs. A most recent one was days earlier in Tribeca, two men ambushed a diamond merchant by his car after he walked out of a posh barsteraunt and held him up at gunpoint and robbed $150,000 of jewels and ran away with them.

In the East Village, a gang three young men, one of whom was 14, beat down a man and stabbed him multiple times on the pavement and stole his scooter.

Also in the East Village, a man grabbed a 12-year-old girl’s crotch on a city bus and then she got off at the next stop.

Again in the East Village, a man stalked a disabled 80-year-old man to his apartment building and then held him up with a box cutter inside the elevator and robbed 60  bucks off him.

In Little Italy and the Lower East Side, a gangbanger went apeshit on random people on the streets; first he threatened a woman with a broken bottle at a cafe, then he snatched two butcher knives from a restaurant and used them to threaten random people including an elderly couple who were in his path. When the cops showed up and caught up to the lunatic, they tazed him multiple times but they had zero effect on him and then he broke north with the cops in pursuit while he was still wielding the knives and they tazed him again and shot at him but still couldn’t take him down until they finally trapped the skell and tazed him a few more times and cuffed him. Maybe it’s time to throw former commissioner William Bratton’s weak ass tazers in a garbage incinerator.

In Stuyvesant Town, a grown ass man got into an argument an 11-year-old girl and then socked her in the face and pulled her hair and then began to choke her and then punched a 15-year-old boy who tried to intervene after she and a bunch of kids were hassling him and a friend of his passing by them while walking their dogs.. The hipster strangler worked with a non-profit organization that was dedicated for helping troubled kids and young adults. He also was a board member although the NPO is claiming he never had such a position despite his name saying such on their website.

In the Lower East Side, a man walked toward a group of men on a street corner and shot a 16-year-old gangbanger to death point blank at his face and wounded another man on the knee in a gang-related attack. A man and his girlfriend fleeing the scene of the crime tried to take shelter in a nearby cineplex but was refused entry until they showed vaccine passports. The victim was scheduled to appear in court for an armed robbery offense and was previously charged with vandalizing a teachers car when he was 13 and also multiple muggings of Asian people and had a murder case against him that got sealed in the last few years of his short life.

Also in the Lower East Side, a man taking a break sitting on a park bench after midnight after delivering food for an app-food service company got accosted by a stranger who sat down next to him and demanded he give him his ebike. Then the lowlife slashed him in the face and stabbed him in the gut and rode away with it, as the worker bled out on the sidewalk trying to catch him and then died hours later from his wounds. The victim recently bought that ebike a month earlier.

Again in the Lower East Side, a manplowed a NYPD sergeant with his motorcycle when he hit a barricade she was standing behind as she ordered him to stop at a checkpoint by the Williamsburg Bridge. The perp was tripping balls and didn’t have a license.

In Greenwich Village, a man broke into cellphone store, four restaurants and a pet store and robbed cellphones, ipads and laptop computers worth totaling over $10,000 and $1,100 in cash in a 7 day crime spree.

Also in Greenwich Village, an argument between two men in front of a deli escalated when one of them pulled out a knife and chased his foe into the West 4th St. Station and then stabbed him in the gut.

Again in Greenwich Village, two men walked into a high end fash designer’s store and held up it at knifepoint while threatening to shoot workers (?!) and they made off with dozens of handbags worth over $10,000.

And again in Greenwich Village, restaurants shanties are being utilized by homeless men for sleeping and sheltering themselves.

In the Meatpacking District, a man stabbed a security guard twice inside an upscale electronic brand chain store following an argument he had with the guard after he ordered him to put on a face mask and after he punched a worker in the face.

In Hudson Yards, two men on a scooter riding on the sidewalk sneaked up behind a man and the man riding saddleback hopped off and held him up at gunpoint and snatched a gold chain from his neck, then hopped back on and got away with his accomplice.

Also in Hudson Yards at the 34th St. Station, a man snatched a celly out of another man’s hand and doused his face with pepper spray on the 7 train.

In Penn Station, two men started brawling in the spanking new Moynihan transit hub and when it spilled onto the street, they both took out knives and slashed each other in front of a pizzeria and left a crimson mess on the sidewalk.

In Hell’s Kitchen, two men got into a brawl with two traffic cops who stopped them from going into the Lincoln Tunnel.

Also in Hell’s Kitchen, a woman stabbed her boyfriend in the back inside her luxury apartment during a domestic dispute.

In Union Square, demonstrators marching in a protest against The Blaz’s fascist extortion vaccine mandate stopped by a testing site and knocked over the table and the canopy and dragged it on the sidewalk.

Also in Union Square, a man shot a man in the leg in the subway on the NRQV platform during the start of the evening rush hour after he demanded his cellphone and his victim wouldn’t comply. The NYPD transit chief actually said the victim should have gave up his property while spinning the act of gun violence occurring on a crowded heavily used subway station as a rarity and making a ludicrously false claim that the subway is safer than ever.

The perp held up another bank in Chelsea the next day but got caught and arrested by cops when he tried to take the 1 train at the 28th St. Station (but were the cops wearing masks??) and was caught with three guns in his backpack. Following his arrest, it was found that he robbed a bank at gunpoint and made off with $1,100 in Chinatown before he took the train to Union Square and stuck up a man ordering food inside a deli and robbed him of 45 bucks the day before in Midtown. The perp tried to preserve what little self-respect he had by cursing out the prosecutor and the judge during his arraignment.

In Downtown Manhattan, a man with 136 prior arrests that was about to be transferred to Rikers Island attempted suicide by trying to hang himself in a holding cell at the central booking jail in the criminal court building. He still died from his injuries.

Wonder why he would decide to snuff it?

When pressed about the continuing dystopian ultraviolence and uninhabitable environment at Rikers after photos were finally published of the deplorable conditions at the few facilities left on the island and a  new expose of women C.O.’s getting sexually assaulted by prisoners, The Blaz naturally blew them off with non sequitor talking points, deflecting his responsibility for the disintegration of order and humanity of the island prison complex, even though his idea to close it for good has turned the jails into modern day medieval dungeons; illustrating once again that he doesn’t like to be reminded of things he already knows.

Also in Downtown Manhattan, a man was found dead lying on top of a wrought iron fence like a wet blanket at a park near NYPD headquarters. The man died overdosing on smack, which follows Governor Kathy Hochul decriminalizing the possession of syringes.

Again in Downtown Manhattan, a man was found dead on a bench by a pier at tourist attraction South Street Seaport.

In Chelsea, a man smashed the windshields and windows of cars with a long piece of wood and proceeded to walk to NoMad to cause more damage when three men who witnessed his violent vandalism followed him and cornered him in front of an office building and one of them snatched the blunt object from his hand and then cops arrived to the scene and collared him.

Also in Chelsea, a man got caught shoplifting a robot vacuum cleaner by security guards inside a home department store and then they escorted him out after he stuck a knife up at them.

Again in Chelsea, a man sneaked into the basement of a Mickey D’s and stole wallets belonging to the workers, then he used their credit cards to buy lunch and dinner at the same place he robbed.

And again in Chelsea at the 28th St. Station, a man walked up to another man and asked him a bizarre question and then cracked a bottle over his head.

And again in Chelsea, a pro soccer player and his friend sexually harassed a woman on the dance floor at a rooftop party at a fancy hotel and then they both beat down a man and cracked a bottle over his head when he tried to defend her. The horndog athlete was charged in a similar incident with another friend of his in Australia 3 years earlier.

In Kips Bay, a man shoplifted a load of electronic and pharmacy products and grub in two duffel bags from a chain dept. store and then he flashed a box cutter to security guards and easily waltzed out the door.

Also in Kips Bay, a man lifted a wallet out of an 89-year-old man’s pocket while he was shopping at a supermarket, then he used one of the credit cards to spend $1,200 on shit. The crook got busted for stealing a wallet back in August despite still being on parole and despite his recidivism and recent arrest, the judge released him on his own recognizance.

In Noho at the 8th St. Station, a man hectored two cops patrolling the platform for not wearing face masks, then one of the cops grabbed him and bounced him out through the emergency exit door.

In the Financial District, the Department of Homeless Services run by townhouse owning Windsor Terrace resident Stephen Banks sent 5 registered pedophiles to shelter at a hotel near four grade and pre-k schools.

On the Williamsburg Bridge, a man killed himself after falling off the J train while trying to surf it and onto the opposite tracks as another train ran him over.

Also on the Williamsburg Bridge, a man riding an bike stabbed another man on a skateboard in the chest after they got into an argument on the bike path, then the perp got off the bridge and rode his bike to a park and stabbed another man. The same park where a lowlife stabbed an app-food delivery man to death for his e-bike.

A man punched a woman in the face after she told him to take a chill pill on the D train.

Two couples got into some dead ass fucking on the subway and on the street next to a dollar pizza place.

In Hunts Point, a 13-year-old boy got shot on a basketball court in the middle of the game in broad daylight by another 13-year-old boy over a feud they got into while dissing each other on a social media platform. The young gunslinger walked away as a friend of his followed on a bike.

The suspect, known as “Chulo,” fired a shot into the knee of the teen victim who was playing basketball at the Hunts Point Playground.

The boy was involved in menacing anti-social behavior with gangs before he sought vengeance against his snapchat foe. The mother of the problematic child  turned him in to face charges of attempted murderThe mother of the victim demands why the NYPD cannot prevent guns that are easily getting into the hands of inner-city kids.

Also in Hunts Point, an inmate attacked two C.O.’s who were trying to remove him from a housing area in the barge prison and then other inmates intervened and all of them savagely beat them down with tables and chairs. Prison violence has doubled in the last year since the city started depleting C.O personnel, leading to more attacks against C,O,’s, and more use of force against prisoners. Slashings and stabbings among inmates have also doubled.

And again in Mott Haven, a man got stabbed to death in the vestibule of an apartment building after his killer chased him on the street and caught him trying to hide in there.

And again in Mott Haven, a juvenile holding facility has seen a rise in violence among  residents and security personnel and weapons confiscations happening on a daily basis in the past 4 months. The federal monitor also revealed non-existent record keeping by the center’s management staff. Like Rikers Island, here’s another case of systemic rot being neglected by a city agency, this time by Mayor de Blasio’s Departments of Social and Administrative Children’s Services.

In Foxhurst, two men walking past a man in a red jacket on the sidewalk both pull out guns and shoot him in broad daylight.

https://www.nydailynews.com/resizer/mAf9K_BXOledbuB5UDQvJBPaLXI=/800x455/top/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/tronc/VVNCFNSHGZDZPDP5XASUFOSC7M.JPG

In Woodstock, a man riding a miniature e-bike got jumped by two men on the sidewalk. Then 3 other men and a woman arrived and cornered him against the building while trying to steal his bike and then they all ganged up on him and threw rocks and bottles and also tried to whack him with a stick but one of them managed to slash him before they all ran away.

Queens

In Brookville, a man who beat up his girlfriend on the street and threatened his mother evaded police who arrived to arrest him on a warrant for assault by crawling out the window of his mother’s house and then he climbed up and occupied a tree in front of it,  where he remained for 52 hours because he didn’t want to go back to Rikers Island. The cops coaxed the man to come down by offering the man a banana. Bet they thought that was mildly amusing.

During the nearly 3 day ordeal, the NYPD deployed hundreds of cops to force him down but then coaxed the man to come down by offering the man a banana (bet they thought that was mildly amusing). But a violence interruptor organization had more success and managed to persuade the mentally disturbed man to come down.

An area resident who just happens to be a NYPD chaplain was not only utterly taken aback at the size of the NYPD’s presence and the  excessive and ludicrous resources they had to take down one man from a tree (like using drones), but also that they didn’t have a functioning unit to deal with mentally disturbed people.

Queens Chronicle:

“I’m a neighbor,” Perry, who said police turned the neighborhood upside down for three days, told the Chronicle Monday. “There was noise, banging and floodlights … if they would have called the crisis prevention program, it would never have led up to this.”

Thomas was traumatized from his time on Rikers, according to Perry. Instead of a crisis management team, nearly 50 officers were on the scene and tried to get Thomas out of the tree by bribing him with food, using bright floodlights, flying drones and banging on some drums.

“There was noise and banging and floodlights and that was never the goal,” said Perry, who has known Thomas for six years. “The goal was to get him treatment … and that could have been resolved instead of all that manpower.”

Perry, who also happens to be an NYPD chaplain, suggested to police on Oct. 6, that they should reach out to a mental health crisis prevention team, but she said her recommendation was ignored.

“If they had called them from the beginning it would never had led up to this and now he is publicly humiliated and our neighborhood is now a target for a man that was in a tree,” said Perry. “People are still coming here to take pictures and it’s embarrassing.”

Queens

On Rikers Island, an inmate was found dead from a drug overdose inside his cell, making him the 10th prisoner to perish inside one of the few facilities left after a law the city council cronies enacted and the current mayor signed decreed that the island be shut down permanently.

Also on Rikers Island, a clerical fugazi allowed a convicted burglar who was sentenced for 20 months for robbing three small businesses to run free and was found and re-detained back on his hunting grounds in Staten Island.

And again on Rikers Island, an inmate saw a shitlib city council crony and threw toilet water at him from behind a glass partition.

And again in Rikers Island, three inmates ganged up on a maintenance worker and stole his watch, sneakers and smokes as one of them stuck a shiv to his side.

And again on Rikers Island, an inmate who was serving time for shooting up a speakeasy nite club in Williamsburg where he sprayed five people at their legs was found to be the hit-and run driver who ran over and killed a woman with a fancy car in Ozone Park by a catholic school and got charged with murder. So let’s decarcerate him.

And again on Rikers Island, a C.O. caught an inmate with a weapon on him while he was doing a work detail and then the convict punched him the face and broke his jaw while he tried to bring him back to a higher security level area. The inmate was arraigned for the homicide of his girlfriend.

Since the city closed facilities on the prison complex island, two of them that had medical clinics, to rush it’s eventual transfer to four tower prisons in four boroughs sans S.I. that won’t fully materialize until 2027, a fifth of the C.O.’s have been calling in sick and the remaining guards have been working triple shifts trying to prevent daily insurrections and attacks by unruly inmates. Under staffing has been so rife, inmates have taken over their duties logging prisoners on days when they go 24 hours without C.O. supervision.

What was always a common occurrence inside the prisons, gang beatdowns are even more pronounced as inmates film the ultraviolence and post them on social media sites like TikTok and also rap videos with inmates flashing cash and high end hooch. The drug trade has also raged out of control because there are not enough C.O.’s to search them.

While the Blaz deliberately stalled into visiting Rikers for weeks after being hammered with questions daily about it and by slightly acknowledging the crisis he’s been ignoring for mostly the last 4 years.., NY State senators and assembly officials were demanding to visit the prison and see the humanitarian crisis for themselves. But as is wont of the Blaz, he fabricated a hill of bullshit by citing his executive authority can only allow them to visit the prisons or any government building. But since New York government officials have the privileged right to enter any government building they want, Blaz’s dropped his pathetic obstruction and the senators and assembly people went the next day.

And what a day it was. As they all assembled at a podium in front of Rikers giant welcoming sign on the corner of Hazen St. and 19th Ave, young women elected officials one by one furiously railed about the horrid and hazardous conditions and environment during their tour of the wretched facilities. One of them even claimed she saw an inmate attempted suicide by hanging himself in his cell (although no one happened to see any impromptu gang violence or regular drug dealing when they were inside there).

Although they acknowledged the maltreatment the C.O.’s and workers at Rikers are getting from the city (but not from the recidivist violent inmates), the Corrections Dept. union leader held a rally right near them and confronted the liberal collective right after they were calling for the general release of the entire prison population. Yet the two groups found solidarity in their abject and apt criticism of current mayor de Blasio, who cowardly tried to prevent this tour from happening. Rikers workers continued to hold protests against the mayor and the crony he hired as interim Dept of Corrections commissioner to oversee the prison complex as it got worse under his feeble supervision during it’s draw down transition to tower prisons that are a half decade away, who a high brass C.O. labeled as an asshole puppet of the Blaz. The asshole puppet lived up to his reputation by proclaiming that fixing Rikers is impossible because the recurring violence behind bars is unstoppable mainly because of absent C.O.’s although depriving the prisoners of basis services. Besides losing medical services because of the loss of clinics from two recently closed facilities, inmates no longer have recreational activities or even access to the library.

As the pressure mounted following the Rikers protest, The Blaz continued to avoid Rikers and evade questions about touring the prison complex even though he was holding his recent silly city hall in your borough week in Queens, where Rikers happens to call it’s home. Following a presser teasing when he will visit, he finally went to Rikers immediately after his daily variety show press briefing that very day and evidently he made sure he avoided all the corridors where thousands of inmates were located and even avoided the C.O.’s on the floor who do the risky and bold work trying to keep the jail secure for visitors like the soft elitist mayor of NYC, while they weren’t even getting paid for the triple shifts they were induced to take. All the dilapidated conditions and human excrement were suddenly scoured clean and painted over and his crony asshole puppet commissioner had all the inmates shuttled to another intake facility that resembled a medieval goolag with the maggots and their own shit just to placate the realities of the prison the mayor only chooses to see, despite the known risk of causing a superspreader area because of the congregate setting. Another thing that made the Blaz’s Rikers tour a cakewalk was that he recently deployed 100 cops to fill work as C.O.’s to the island a few days earlier. If not for the anarchy that has overtaken the jails, this would be another misuse of city safety services the Blaz selfishly exploited with his undeserved privilege as NYC’s Mayor.

When confronted with a question about his pussy tour of Rikers and his deliberate avoidance of engaging with C.O.’s and prisoners who have to work and live under the decrepit conditions resulting from his complicit insouciance that purposely led to them, the Blaz feebly responded with the most heinous missive that he’s ever defecated out of his big faceanus:

“I don’t need to be reminded of something I already know”

Not only is this cold blooded and tone deaf statement a confirmation of his wanton arrogant avoiding of C.O.s and inmates, it’s also monstrously inhumane, being that he knows and has practically accepted what a shithole the prisons are and how the internationally renowned humanitarian crisis exacerbated under his indifference and there was a point when he decided he was going to let it rot. Surely right when he got re-elected. It’s also the Blaz’s most hilarious self-own, since that stupidly haughty statement can apply to every other issue and crisis that has turned into a bigger mountain of shit under his watch, like Vision Zero, affordable housing, and the city’s sewer system that crapped out and flooded the streets and highways of Queens, Kings and Boogie Down counties. Plus anyone can apply it to the mayor himself in casual conversation.

“Man, de Blasio is such a fucktard dickhead”

“I don’t need to be reminded of what I already know cuz”

Now that the Blaz has finally made no bones for being unaccountable for Rikers Island, it’s inmates and security because of he already knows how fucked up it is there, he continues to blame the court system for making it harder to get violent criminals off the streets that have led to rise in felonies in his city, accusing them of being too slow to process cases while discounting the city’s court buildings under his purview that are still under shoddy conditions and not safe to distance from COVID-19/Delta Variant spread. But this wouldn’t be a problem if the borough district D.A.’s weren’t dismissing thousands of criminal cases because of the 10 month old bail reform laws that has sprung over 6,500 perpetrators because of the state assembly’s re-categorizations of the severity of the crimes committed. (Or is that re-imagining). And thousands more will be released because of the humanitarian crisis the Blaz, Governor Kathy, the city council cronies, and the state and assembly fauxgressives are complicit with for their ill-written bail reform and their asinine advocacy legislation for Rikers closure, acting as useful idiots for rapacious developers chomping at the bit for all that vast real estate on the ground and in the ether. All for collective regressive effort to close Rikers Island by any means necessary is clearly having an impact on the streets and on the minds of recidivist criminals and gangbangers practically rejoicing at the decarceration culture being induced on the public from fauxgressive politicians and social media pundits as teenagers are getting shot and killed on the streets where these elites fear to tread.

While he’s telling people off for reminding him of what he already knows, he then tries to remind everyone about dubious drops in shootings from the last year in certain NYPD enclaves while blowing off how shootings have doubled and tripled in other enclaves. As the Summer of Blaz and September ended, a total of 1,384 people got shot on the streets, already passing last years total with another 3 months left in this blood stained year. And if this isn’t offensive and repulsive enough, Jizzoner’s response to all this violence and crime he has been blocking from his brain for the last two years is to hire more municipal workers to NYPD precincts to greet victims of crimes looking to file reports or citizens looking to visit friends and relatives on lockdown because of the perception of the crabby cop behind the desk who won’t help them. The twisted irony of this idiotic program is it’s coming from a motherfucker who’s been the shittiest and surliest host of NYC for 8 years; who doesn’t even deign to greet C.O.’s and prisoners after being browbeaten to by his establishment fauxgressive Democrat party peers. So instead of telling precinct desk cops to be more cordial and informative to his constituents, he spends 5.7 million dollars to put a bunch of B to do their jobs for them.

The mentally ill man continued his rampage against humankind in Chelsea, where he found a hammer and smashed car windows and a few restaurant windows until the cops caught up with him and collared him.

The man was an Iraq War veteran who suffered from mental illness most of his life, which exacerbated after he finished his service with the Army and wound up in a VA hospital and wandering the streets. Where is fucking THRIVE? Oh yeah, this service is too sophisticated to handle cases where mentally and emotionally disturbed people are prone to violence and besides the human tax boondoggle Chirlie’s Wilhelm’s husband says that attacks from these mentally ill people don’t happen that much and they shouldn’t be subjected to stereotypes.

The Blowback Blight And Anarchy From NYC’s Open Restaurants Law

New York City, New York

COVID-19’s impact on New York City has no doubt fundamentally changed the environment, landscape and cuture of this city. It’s why this nation of ours had to suddenly print trillions of dollars to keep it resembling an imitation of normal to get money in people’s pockets and keep most businesses solvent where before we used to print it to pay for regime change wars and to assure the biggest banks remain too big to fail. It was basically a big class action settlement for government malpractice of our leaders response to the virus (and clearly the manufacturing of it thanks to Dr. Anthony Fauci).  And when the stimulus cash arrived to NYC, one of the first things that got fed socialist moneyed resuscitation was to the restaurant industry.

Since eating indoors was still a major risk of contagion for months on end last year, City Council and Mayor de Blasio addressed the existential threat the virus had on the dining and drinking industry and started the Open Restaurants initiative which lifted restrictions and eased regulations for restaurants to build sheds on the street curbs so patrons can come back and dine again outside of their establishments. Despite usurping parking spaces from residents, these businesses were able to recoup some losses and were able to make money again. The city also integrated this program with the Open Streets initiative to “re-imagine” public streets initially centered on cycling and pedestrian commuting by evolving them to plazas with the intent to foster community activity and keeping vehicular traffic out (both initiatives annoyingly prodded by bike zealot/car abolitionist lobby Transportation Alternatives). With the sheds on the asphalt, restaurants were able to extend their businesses by placing tables on the street, enabling to serve more customers. At the time it was logical and necessary.

Even though this was enacted for emergency purposes to keep businesses thriving in a still near dead city (with more prodding from agent of the city TransAlt weaponizing this program to banish cars)  the City Council Cronies and The Blaz decided to make restaurant outdoor sheds permanent, which was buoyed by a bill written by the State Senate and signed by Mario’s Son Governor Cuomo. Now even though restaurants are under the regulatory purview of the Department of Health, the Blaz left the responsibility of monitoring the street sheds under the Department Of Buildings. If this isn’t bizarre enough, the Department of Transportation seems are wholly left out of this even though the streets are officially under their purview. And as expected with the Blaz and the Council Cronies, they conjure these laws without considering the ramifications of them as some restaurants and even non-food related establishments opportunistically took advantage of the bureaucratic fugazi of  NYC’s Open Restaurants and Streets policy.

This egregiousness came to prominence when a member of community group L.E.S. dwellers encountered a curbside shed going through a re-imagining development in process in the East Village, catching the restaurant adding a second level to their shed  parallel with first floor apartment windows above the establishment and close enough to touch the branches on the tree above.

What the actual fuck indeed, what’s even more insane is that this restaurant just recently put up their normal ground floor shed, or to be more apt shanty, even though indoor dining was permitted after the city officially opened up at the beginning of July.

Surprisingly this shanty got an immediate stop work order a day after it went viral, even warranting a faux outrage tweet by Council Crony Margaret Chin, even though her vote enabled these owners to build their leisure duplex. But this being NYC, there are others that are able to get away with flouting the rules with impunity, even though because of the emergency edict placed on open restaurants that gives them a pandemic loophole to build bigger and denser on public streets there practically aren’t any rules anymore.

Popular youtube personality computer repair guru and small business owner Louis Grossman found some more shanties while just strolling around town where he works and one of them had doors like in a saloon, as he pointed out the distinctions between a shed that was safe for pandemic dining and ones that were basically houses on the street with no proper circulation, which defeats the purpose of stopping the spread of COVID. Then he encountered probably the biggest freak violator of all, an open restaurant with an air conditioner.

If there is anything positive to say about this is that it looks more like a bungalow than a shanty with all the windows installed. But it still looks like a cabin because they didn’t even bother painting it and it’s sure as fuck not definitely not safe from the delta variant if people are dining there on a hot muggy afternoon or balmy evening since the contagion is trapped as people are sharing microbes while eating, drinking and talking in close proximity.

Watching that video would give the impression that it’s probably the tipping point or nadir of the open restaurant phenomenon and that the D.O.B. will stop by and tell the proprietor to take it down but you’d be wrong.  Because these AC equipped cabins have set off an open restaurant land grab wave.

Documented by the lifestyle news website Eater, many high end dining establishments in high destination areas in Manhattan seized the opportunity given to them and set up AC’s for their own shanties,as well as other fixtures and locking doors that resemble modern day cabins or even Fedders apartment buildings. But absolutely nothing can compare to what two restaurants did on the same block in the small enclave known as Korea Town in Midtown nestled between Madison Ave and Herald Square, for these open restaurant structures are not mere shanties, they are practically street curb condominiums. Here’s a place called Osamil…

Really don’t get why the windows are so small, but they apparently slide open, those doors look like they belong in a horse’s stable. But one things for sure, they made that solar powered parking meter absolutely useless.

Mosey on down the block and we probably have the city’s most egregious and heinous public street space monopolizer restaurant indoor shanty claimed by Take 31, which takes the city’s re-imagining shock doctrine open restaurants policy to another level.

Look at these doors and windows, how can you possibly breath let alone spread the delta variant…

In case there is any wonder how these 4 A.C.’s are being powered, get a load of the electrical hookup. Remember, the Department Of Buildings is in charge of regulating these things, doubtful if you can get away with this if you hooked up something similar from your house to your garage.

Apparently when they were building this aesthetics wasn’t even on the agenda or even architecture or carpentry, but making this shitpost into a veritable ice box was. They equipped this with FOUR HVAC units. Apparently this was made for two establishments judging by the outhouse that’s built in front of a small restaurant next door.

If the sign demanding proof of vaccination wasn’t ludicrous enough considering there isn’t one pasted on the elongated outhouse on the street, what’s even more deranged is that the shanty is just under 10 feet across a building under development with scaffolding and bollards on the street, making it very treacherous for driving and cycling commuting.

Since the current mayor de Blasio and the City Council cronies joined in solidarity to legitimize these shanties under the rubric of safety because of COVID and the delta variant and by extracting the authority of the Department of Transportation from regulating these , it had to come at the expense of the safety of vehicular, cycling and walking commuters and a brazen example of the second expense lies on Bleecker St. in Noho.

Despite the presence of a bike lane, the proprietors of this open restaurant shanty blocked half of it, which if a regular citizen driver or the NYPD did this it would get photographed and pilloried by bike zealot social media accounts and would get a $200 citation by a traffic constable in real life.

Although the barricades set up makes it city designated open street designed to ban cars, it doesn’t prevent drivers from accessing the open restaurant area turning from Mulberry St., making riding pass this shitpost set up a perilous risk.

And the thing that’s remarkable about bike propagandists like StreetsBlog NYC praising open restaurants to the skies is that even when they are not violating traffic laws, the roads still don’t have sufficient space to ride a bike by them and makes driving more perilous despite the precautions taken by restaurant owners to make their structures more visible (like a house on the street wouldn’t already do that)

Of course can’t leave out the frustrations of the pedestrian, with insufficient walking space as these shanties make commuting by them a human gauntlet with people milling around and waiters and busboys going back and forth serving people. Ultimately forcing pedestrians with no choice to walk in the streets in the driving and bike lanes.

Surely pedestrian gridlock is a daily issue by this restaurant/bar/nite club in South Richmond Hill that actually built a tunnel by their establishment.

And since they already have an LED display sign, they can probably scan EZ passes to go through it. Although prospective burglars sure will appreciate the easy lift provided by the roof inches away from the apartment in the mixed use building.

While this outdoor dining set up one a mile west is more sad than egregious, but still a brazen hazard that has the potential to cause a blazing one.

It can’t be stressed hard enough what damage this shanty is going to do if one of this restaurants neighbors houses goes on fire, or even their own business (unless that hole was put there for that reason) considering an incident where a mixed-use building got torched on Bleecker St. because the FDNY couldn’t get around a shanty in front of the restaurant where the fire started on the ground floor. And never mind how flammable this and every other wooden shanty in NYC is vulnerable to any random kindling or arson attempt.

But what makes this restaurant more sad about it’s flaunting of fire codes is that it doesn’t have much of a choice with Bill de Blasio’s utterly fascist and unscientific vaccine mandate about to be unleashed on city establishments and venues, where the only way to keep non-vaccinated residents as customers is to keep them outside.

And if there is a shanty that’s a tinderbox waiting to explode, it’s got to be the one belonging to celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s five star Michelen steakhouse restaurant in Murray Hill. A set up so ostentatious it’s the Hamptons Mansion of open restaurant shanties in NYC.

To be fair, maybe Wolfie’s shanty resembles more like a Super 8 motel going by all these doors and key locks.

Looks like somebody tried to pick this one. Gotta admit that this shanty looks more safer and pleasing than the city’s homeless shelters.

What makes this the most special of open restaurant shanties is that it’s built on a steep incline with traffic going south. which means there are probably steps inside there. While it doesn’t have energy sucking HVAC’s it does appear to have what looks like an air purifier releasing whatever delta variant strains the customers are dispensing inside and releasing the contagion into the ether and onto the public. Which makes a mockery of the vaccine mandate rules by conveying this as a safe outdoor venue for microbe aerosol dispensing dining and nightlife leisure activities.

Besides the obvious haste to put these curbside bungalows up in order to opportunistically take advantage of the City Council and current Mayor’s Open Restaurant law, judging by the the exposed wood paneled wall entirely flushed against the 33rd St. Station stairwell, what’s curious is how to patrons get served inside that shanty?

Which means waitstaff and bussers have to maneuver through passerby with orders for the clientele and to clean up after them, causing more pedestrian gridlock on the sidewalk and from commuters exiting and entering the stairwell at the downtown staircase of the 33rd St. Station.

And get a load of this cable going into the restaurant. It’s only about 7 1/2 feet off the ground. It really doesn’t matter whether its a five star joint, these shanties are cheap and ugly and still vulnerable to cause contagion spread because of the indoor environment in addition to being a blatant electrical fire hazard.

The ironic thing about these shanties which purport to bring people and vibrancy back to city streets and also add a touch of European savoir faire while keeping more cars off the street in order to improve the environment, it’s ultimately done the exact opposite and has brought down the quality of life and environment in neighborhoods. Besides the horrendous site of mountains of garbage piled up against the structures and inside them and providing convenient shelter for a new generation of rats to feed and breed in them, these filthy shanties have brought forward a disturbing new trend of high end blight of rampant graffiti wholly comparable but more artless than the aerosol paint bombings of subway trains in the Bad Old Days in the 70’s-80’s. Which perfectly falls in line with the New Bad Days era of the last 5 years.

It’s really a wonder why anyone would even eat and drink in these shacks, but it’s ok because of emergency pandemic exemptions, the NYC Department Of Health doesn’t bother checking them out either. Which makes those restaurant grade posters on the windows moot since the DOH is not responsible to regulate the shanties because it’s the Department of Buildings role.

Some of these are also zombie shanties from restaurants that went out of business.

Although there are absolutely no rules about the open restaurants, some establishments that took advantage of the idiotic law don’t actually seem to serve food at all. Like the Basquiat gallery here, where there are clearly no restaurants in sight.

And this other artful shanty which is in front of a hookah lounge.

This one has valet parking…

But some of these non-restaurant establishments probably serve liquor, making them able to take advantage of the city’s generous loopholes, like this greenhouse in front of this nite club. Complete with HVAC and door and lock. Also defeating the purpose of preventing virus contagion.

And to think Transportation Alternatives declares that sights like this should be normal as their agitprop allies Streetsblog NYC whinnies about how these are better for the environment than the existence of cars and traffic. This shanty recently developed by a legendary lunchonette in the West Village instantly disproves their theories, which basically turns a tree into a periscope. With some very apt commentary graffiti pointing out the restaurants man made climate violation.

What Transportation Taliban and Bike Blog and their urbanist hives on social media make clear is how unconscious they are about open restaurants/streets and how neoliberal their agenda is because the shanties and barricades act as violent architecture against cars in the hopes to “induce demand” in personal vehicle commuting by frustrating drivers to forsake their cars. All in the hopes for the total banishment of the vehicle.

One thing’s overwhelmingly conclusive about the open streets/open restaurants is that because of the overzealous attention and prioritization to approve the open streets/open restaurants law for permanency, the NYC Council Cronies and de Blasio did this with absolutely no consideration for the residents at all and waited over a month to even announce any regulations for them, which according to the mayor’s office you tube channel have broken every rule that is still waiting to be written on the books. Despite all excuses of trying to govern and keep the city’s economy solvent during a pandemic, these unsightly space hogging and citizen obstructing shanties are the result of city planning designed by a kakistrocacy consisting of people disconnected from their constituents and real life.

And they will be literally disconnected in a few months because the idiot mayor and most of the idiot council cronies are term limited and won’t be around to see this open restaurants fugazi exacerbate. Thanks to the leniency and the steady presence of the more infectious delta variant, these restaurants, especially the high end expensive restaurants, will only build bigger and bigger.

Which will lead to perilous conditions for all commuters on wheels and foot, more eyesore blight, filth, garbage and rats on the streets. As long as the pandemic continues and continues to get exploited by the ruling class and the hospitality industry, the blowback and anarchy, like the shanties, will build bigger and badder and stinkier and fuglier.
