On Thursday morning it was all he can stand and he can’t stands no more. Andy Byford, President of MTA transit services, up and quit his job in barely 2 years at the helm.
But we all saw this coming, in fact he actually tried to resign in October but he decided to hug it out with commuters for few more months. Andy really loves trains, and he really really wanted to conquer the perpetual FUBAR disorganization and dysfunction of the running and budgeting of our maligned transit services. He came to NYC and embrace the subway and buses like their were newborn twins. He really earned the title of #Traindaddy.
But the gargoyle overlord and head muckety muck of the MTA Governor Cuomo was not and never enamored with Andy’s passion for mass transit and as we will see a bit later, honesty and transparency. And after Byford’s spotlight interview on 60 minutes and a big spread in the New Yorker magazine, Mario’s son went the passive aggressive route to undermine his position and even responsibility to improve service and bring much needed renovations and remediations of the transit system. Cuomo basically took a page from former mayor and 9/11 exploiter Rudy Giuliani with his own undermining of his first police commissioner William Bratton when he got glowing attention from a national magazine cover story.
But no matter how hard Transit Poppa Byford tried, he just didn’t have the stamina to take total control (and he actually really did try, no one has this visible ever from the MTA and surely never will again). And it wasn’t is fault, because Mario’s son had to make sure all of his efforts were made to be insignificant so he can hog all the glory for any positive outcomes from them.
As this digital publication pointed out last time trying to get the traindaddy’s attention, he was doomed to from the start despite his fast forward plan as trains continued to break down, signals and switches still malfunctioned, infrastructure continued to fray and he also had to deal with that moron tyrant Cuomo constantly riding his ass, especially when Mario’s insecure son devalued his role and position as president and reduced Byford to basically a public relations flack for the subway.
It’s hard to get inside the mind of an intelligent dutiful public servant like Sir Byford, but I know how people can snap when they are being undermined, giving unreasonable demands and belittling reassignments on the job as well as seeing and experiencing things that just make your head explode and I think these were the things that broke his brain:
Starting with the L train revival. President Byford broke the news that the Canarsie Tunnel was so damaged from Hurricane Sandy six years earlier (on top of the certain internal dilapidation after not repairing for that amount of time) that it needed an entire overhaul that required the L to be shut down for a year and four months. Then when January 2019 came around, Generalissimo Cuomo got his official casual jacket on and went into the tunnel with some college professor eggheads and decided to keep the L train running and use another yet cheaper plan to repair the tunnel and reorganize the power supply while letting the L continue to run on limited schedules, thereby throwing Byford’s more feasible and responsible plan that took his entire first year assembling it and threw it in the garbage. The only thing that this really helped was to keep the ossified, overvalued real estate rental market solvent by the L’s train stations along Williamsburg and Bushwick. This heinous overvalued market speculation/fabrication has now spread further south to East New York. And now the MTA decided to add fucking Wifi to the tunnel also.
As if that insult wasn’t demeaning enough, Mario’s megalomaniac son then put Andy through his own summer of hell by diminishing his leadership role as NYCT president, transferring the control of all subway renovation and construction projects to advisory firm Alix Partners while splitting up the transit dept. causing Byford to lose control over the buses. With this unheralded demotion, Byford went from a proactive hands on manager to a glorified public relations flack to promote subway improvements and fixes for Sith Lord Andrew to glom credit for them. With one stroke, Cuomo reduced Andy Byford from traindaddy to Mr. Pitiful.
The tragic irony of Andrew’s decision to overhaul the offices and Byford’s responsibilities instead of the subway manifested itself in more terrible and predictable mishaps on the trains below and above ground. Most notably one afternoon at Grand Central Station, when the ceiling on the mezzanine broke and vomited gallons and gallons of water onto the floor, as MTA workers left a lone bucket there to catch it. Byford actually showed up and grabbed a big broom and was pushing the fetid water itself in a vain display of accountability. Unfortunately he wasn’t around in Long Island City at the Court Square station when a bearing wall from a tower development collapsed, forming a wave on the platform that nearly got a commuter killed by an arriving train.
Months after Andy was playing janitor, the recently appointed NYC Transit figurehead went into his new role as pitchman and led an embarrassing press conference for the implementation and unsubtle praise of the OMNY tap pay fare system as another day of transit chaos was happening simultaneously.
Andy also had to hit the streets to address all the rusty metal chunks and broken pieces of wood that were flying off the elevated tracks in Queens, landing on cars and nearly killing drivers and pedestrians. At least his hands on action resulted in getting netting for them.
These things, plus Cuomo’s micromanaging his MTA flunkie board to keep things hush hush about the spending and planning for projects and fixes for the subway and other projects like extending Penn Station from the general public and Andy and his transit team surely led him to consider and following up on quitting back in October but apparently the governor still needed him to stick around as the $51,500,000,000 MTA capital plan was about to be implemented and the optics would have been immensely bad for Cuomo if one of the main authors of it would leave town.
But come 2020, it was getting clearer that Andy wasn’t going to be around much longer and all signs were there that he mostly wasn’t. For when the Capital Plan was ratified by the MTA board, Byford was not there for it. And a few days after it was passed on the first Monday of this year as millions of people were going back to work and school, the entire transit system broke down after signal malfunctions on the 7 and a switch malfunction on the B lines, throwing all train lines into chaos. Even though it dominated the news on online websites and social media, Andy Byford oddly did not appear at all to assuage commuters.
Then there was the MTA’s decision to overhaul the entire bus map in Queens. While supplying their narrative by describing the new routes as remixes, cutting some essential bus stops as enhancements and supplying the routes with articulated buses, the MTA tried to enhance their plans by being sneaky as they opened their first workshop that with commuters that they barely publicized by holding it in a basement of a building surrounded by scaffolding in Jackson Heights. Thanks to social media and the blog Queens Crap (of which I am an admin) that published the meetings and the horrible new bus route remix, thousands of citizens showed up.
And what do you know, among the people in that crowded rumpus room was none other than the traindaddy himself Mr. Byford, even though his responsibility of running the buses were yanked away from him. Byford did what he did best and without fear and took questions, ideas and very loud constructive criticism from all and reassured them that the routes were subjected to change (or to be remixed again).
But the last straw that could have led Byford to quit so soon came last Thursday at the 71st Ave/Continental Ave. station. When workers in a control tower was overwhelmed so much by the sight of a bedbug (that’s right a single bedbug) that they evacuated their work space and caused four transit lines to be delayed for hours for it to get fumigated. Sure Andy quit because of his reduced role caused by an advisory firm hired by Cuomo that specializes in downsizing working staffs, but it’s not hard to imagine the Byford’s head getting beet red and blowing steam out of his ears to hear how those tower workers reacted. (Sorry to digress but why is it even called a tower when it’s actually a bunker since it’s underground).
And that is that. Andy Byford, the most hands on, accessible and accountable MTA official this city and state has ever had is gone. And he walks away after actually improving transit schedules thanks to Save Safe Seconds program that made the trains go faster and making the trains more handicapped accessible, even though the new train speeds may be responsible for all that heavy debris falling from the elevated trains and a judge’s decision favoring a class action lawsuit for the transit system provide such access respectably. The only mistake Byford did (and it was a big one) was approving a contract for Bombadier to supply new trains on the A, C, J, lines that kept malfunctioning, notably one incident where a door remained widely ajar as it was still moving (he actually had a similar problem with that train manufacturer when he ran Toronto’s transit. But at least he won’t have to put up with Cuomo’s moronic totalitarian bullshit and arrogance and de Blasio’s indifference and shirking of his own responsibility for the subway and buses that run in the city he governs (in fact it’s doubtful if the corrupt mayor was ever in the same room with Byford at all during his tenure).
Although he may be bailing out at the right time. In a few months, the Canarsie Tunnel is scheduled to be complete. It may have saved the commutes of millions of citizens and kept morons from moving from their 3,000 a month tenement and tower apartments but the ramifications from it may turn out to be dire being that Cuomo’s decision to use cinnabun glaze polymer to fortify the decayed walls might not endure and keeping the L running during construction as silica dust was floating in the ether on the platforms of 1st Avenue and Bedford Ave. will surely have an effect on commuters waiting for their rides in years to come akin to all those who cleaned up the twin towers remains at ground zero after the 9/11 attacks.
But at least we’ll all enjoy the convenience of using our phones to pay the fare dealing with this shit with OMNY. You won’t even have to take it out your pocket either for the scanners can usurp your data by walking past by or through the turnstile.
These things including a rise in crime on the subways, graffiti coming back, the homeless population preferring to use the trains and stations as safer alternatives for habitation and continuing persistent problems with the antiquated switches and signals and even new signals (especially now that the top expert vetted and picked by Byford quit a few days after), and most essentially the persistence of the moron tyrant governor and his MTA board’s continued secrecy and obligatory but opaque releases of the budgeting to fix and modernize mass transit, it’s plain to see that even the beloved Traindaddy couldn’t save Cuomo’s MTA, the worst fucking transit system in the universe.
And we the commuters have to choke on that.
Update:
I just thought of something else. Mario’s son’s hiring of Andy Byford came right after the summer of hell he declared for mass transit back in 2018 and at time Cuomo promised a new era of transparency and accountability just like when he promised he would bring the same to end the embedded and ingrained corruption in the halls of the state assembly and senate with starting the Moreland Commission. And like Byford when the transit system proved to overwhelming to fix, Cuomo terminated Moreland too when investigators found so much graft and corruption with the governor’s office and the leaders Silver and Skelos of the assembly and senate, leading to the arrest and conviction of those two scumbags.
From 8 p.m (6 Pacific) to 8:07 p.m. was the greatest and most pleasurable 7 minutes of TV history of this 20 year old century. Ricky Gervais, actor and comedian and mostly creator, producer and writer of “The Office”, demolished the fourth wall of celebrity and the power entrenched with it and reminded the audience of their complicity of everything wrong in society, the world and how they have obtained their obscene wealth.
Hosting the Golden Globe awards for the fifth and most definitely the last time (unless the rich and famous are purely sadomasochistic), Gervais went deeper with his vitriolic roasting of all the talent and executives in the audience than he did the last four times, which was just comparably ordinary roasting of their dubious talents and the mediocre product they put out. Because the last year have been quite different for the rich and infamous. Not only has the movie and TV industry over-saturated the market with garbage comic book series and unchallenging and unmemorable storytelling, unnecessary rehashes and “prequels”, but the whole poisonous crony culture and underlying corruption that was once kept secret from the masses. Ricky also deconstructed the phoniness of the industry permeating politics and discussion befouling social media and opinions and (hopefully) may have destroyed starfuckery.
Sure he got to skewer some fellow celebrities and odious pop culture contributions, most dutifully about Felicity Huffman’s brief incarceration making license plates and the odious infinitely singing talk show minstrel James Corbin and how he played a fat pussy last year and then starred in the bomb “Cats”. But this one cut deeper because like the comedy, it’s all about timing and easy targets. Especially when the targets are high up. And this years targets were Harvey Weinstein and Jeffery Epstein.
When Ricky brought up Weinstein, a big fat ugly movie producer who molested hundreds of actresses and models, he gave a warning to all those in the crowd of award contenders, assorted billionaires to be cautious if Ronan Farrow has a scoop on them. I wonder if the actresses who were already did his movies without having to survive his skeevy advances stifled a nervous laugh at that. Gervais responded to the nauseating collective groans with vicious disdain and told them to come off it.
As well as they should since Weinstein’s trial for his sexual harassment and sexual assaults just began. The big load is even showing up to trial pushing a walker with tennis balls on them since his fat ass and lousy posture has put too much weight on the stands. Even though only a few weeks before his first court appearance he was at an East Village niteclub sans walker but with an entourage and an astroturfed audience in tow, viewing a female comedy and improv show much to the horror of the performers there and some lady patrons seizing the opportunity to yell at him and his foul presence. Currently, the jury has finally been selected and Harvey is still pushing that walker to court. He’s either goldbricking being that he’s been producing movies all his life he figured he can give a performance too or pushing that walker is the closest he can get to simulating unwanted sexual advances on a woman.
But the next one was the granddaddy of all big shot audience roasting, as he was doing a joke that somehow integrated promoting his show on Netflix where he plays a person trying to kill himself and doesn’t, he compared the protagnists’ failure with the perfect execution of Jeffery Epstein, who didn’t kill himself either. That really killed the whatever noise was left in the ballroom. I don’t think anybody even budged. Ricky, absolutely delighted at the silence and surely the look of shame and menace on the faces of the powerful crowd, told them I know he’s your friend and mused aloud that they all must have been upset to take their own private plane to the Golden Globes.
It must have been easy to deliver the Epstein punchline and the body blow to the elite crowd when an hour before the Globes broadcast and Ricky’s monologue, 60 Minutes did 12 minutes on how Epstein didn’t kill himself by having a forensic doctor, Dr. Michael Baden, hired by the brother of the banker/hedge funder/secret agent man/sex trafficker/pedophile who proved just that.
Pictures showed the blanket that was alleged Epstein used to commit suicide and it didn’t even have any indentures on the fabric. Not only that, but the material looked so flimsy and weak that it’s doubtful that it can even be capable of squeezing the cream out of canoli. But there were plenty of electrical cords in the cell though. Then there was the xray of his neck which showed an extra broken bone that could only be done by strangling and not from self-harm. And the clincher that really should confirm a murder took place that night in the MCC, there was blood found in Epstein’s eye socket capillaries. According to the Dr. Baden, when you hang yourself to death, blood doesn’t flood to the head. And the blood mostly flows to your legs but Epstein’s were pale. This was just reconfirmed on the Dr. Oz show too.
Gervais nailed two perfect jokes with such uncanny perfect timing on that glorious evening. The real kicker is that it overshadowed as well as overwhelmed the actual awards show and winners. But Rick wasn’t through getting medieval on those superstar jabronis. For the last two minutes he railed about their hypocrisy embracing social issues and causes and the vicarious way they bring attention to them without doing anything of substance or even while still engaging in harm while being philanthropic. When he brought up Apple’s CEO for producing a show for their own network about women’s empowerment, Rick immediately brought up the fact that Apple still uses child labor and pays shit wages to factory workers assembling their cellphones. And in the best joke of the night, also how every actor is full of shit themselves for feigning concern for human plight when if terrorist organization ISIS had a streaming network they would jump at a chance to do a show for them (actually, ISIS has been using Facebook and other platforms for their streaming network for their mass murders for years). Then he capped it off by telling them to take their tacky trophy, thank their agent and their God and fuck off. Magnifique’
The only thing that was missing in his savage monologue was that he didn’t bring up how the best picture nominees, Motherless Brooklyn, was responsible for the death of a fireman and the destruction of a building that burned down after shutting down a sprinkler system and leaving other fire hazards behind during production. And the subsequent coverup and undermining of a fire marshall’s report by FDNY high brass.
While they should all fuck off, they should not thank whatever God they obey, they should thank Mr. Gervais, for he is their only God.
Why is that? Let me explain…
In the aughts after the tremendous acclaim and success of “The Office”, Ricky was given the opportunity by Hollywood for a full length feature film that he would star and produce in. A movie called “The Invention Of Lying”* It was highly anticipated (mostly by his fans) and it was taking quite a while to come out. The movie was about a utopian society (or planet) where the concept of lying was non-existent, everyone told the absolute truth, even when it was awkward. Then when someone close to Ricky’s character was about to die and saw how people were getting upset around him in the hospital room, Ricky invented a lie about a place where people went when they expired and it was managed by a big man who lived in the sky. Ricky’s protaganist then became a messiah figure among the general public for the rest of the film.
But on that Sunday night on January 6 2020, Ricky was (and still is) the big man on earth, using the truth like it was just invented to destroy the perpetual phoniness and power structures that are still gripping and shaping societal norms, wasteful celebrity worship, dubious self-serving philanthropy and an inequitable justice system.
While there are other entertainment truth tellers fomenting discord to the rotten and weak yet still powerful establishment like Jimmy Dore, Lee Camp and Joe Rogan, Ricky Gervais is clearly the most omniscient of all of them because of his creation The Office and the American version that starred Steve Carrel which lasted for 10 years and still going in syndication, so Ricky’s making lots of dollars to live comfortably, and continuing to create new shows and work standup and basically say whatever the fuck he wants being an A-lister himself. Money is power as well as speech in America and Gervais is using it wisely and brilliantly. Comedy hasn’t been used this efficiently against extreme and undeserving power structures since the late great Bill Hicks.
With his truth drones striking the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Gervais has basically become The One, like Kenau in the Matrix, our fact-based Messiah. And like Brian from the Life of Brian, he is a very naughty boy but doesn’t give a shit what the rich, famous and powerful think of him as he lays out their true selfish motives, dubious altruism and villainous business models for all to see and will surely continue to do so.
Surely he would hate this divinity as well as he would mock this take like he does to his orange shaped head engineer Karl Pilkington, but if Ricky doesn’t get sainthood when he dies much later on, for the sake of humanity let there be a hologram of Mr. Gervais hosting all the entertainment award ceremonies in the future. Plus an infinite stand up residency in Las Vegas.
*(The movie, while entertaining and heavy on pathos, didn’t do that well. Mostly because it was reduced to a romantic comedy instead of a dystopian story with unfortunate ramifications, which is what I expected. Jennifer Garner was lovely in it though)
The fucking New York City Economic Development Corporation knew it.
The goddamn New York City Mayor knew it.
And both of them fucking spent every second of city time trying to hide it for two years.
The NYC Ferry is mostly used by the wealthiest commuters by the river towers that are owned and run by all of Mayor deFaustio’s developer overlord donors. Notably at the ports on the west Brooklyn coast line where it’s a leisure walk away from them (plus Hunter’s Point in Queens).
The current cost for each taxpayer for each $2.75 ride across the rivers and under the bridges is currently at $9.75. A seven dollar loss for each ride millions of people don’t take or don’t bother to take because they don’t live near the ports. And because they probably have no need and use for the boats because they are just plain inconvenient for where they are located and where they need to go.
If they are not the overvalued rental market rate rent paying tower people, it’s tourists and hipsters going to Rockaway Beach. Which is probably the most popular destination of the city gentrification yachts. Which is where some of this profligate spending on this boondoggle is located.
Because whats constantly overlooked about this obscene and overtly useless and consistently vacant aqua transit service is that there is a free shuttle bus service when you get off the ferry. Although ever since this started, you have to pay another fare to get on a city bus.
Now above is the Rockaway port, the picture was taken in 2017 late in the summer when it first started. It should be noted that these stylish shuttle buses weren’t available until late August and the city was actually using big ass charter buses to transport upper class denizens to the beach.
Above is the city bus stop for the Q22, now why are free ferry shuttle buses necessary when you can just set up a free transfer from the city bus to go to your desired destination, because both buses go to the same places east and west of the peninsula. Why clearly spend money irresponsibly on some private company buses when you got a long time city transit service right there in front of your face?
Because said private company, San Francisco based Hornblower wouldn’t be able to profit from reallocated funds usurped from city buses as service continues to get worse.
And nothing illustrates this more than two recent decisions by the MTA, the worst fucking transit system in the universe, about two major routes that are being gutted and also dissected with scattershot redesigns.
Take the B46 in Brooklyn (while you still can) that goes up and down Utica Ave through three towns and circuits through another four starting at Flatlands and ending in Williamsburg; just last summer the MTA cut 8 buses assigned for the route, cutting four buses from the evening rush and another four for the weekend routes plus the Select bus service line from Mill Basin. Leaving thousands of commuters wasting more time waiting at the stops and taking forever to get back home, in addition to working people reliant on these articulated buses winding up late to work to their weekend jobs. As if paying 2.75 for truncated service was enough of a burden for the majority of them earning around 25k or less a year. All for the MTA to save a measly 2.4 million dollars this year.
Despite the MTA’s pathetic attempt at positive reinforcement propaganda by calling these cuts “enhancements” and the size bigger buses to replace just as big and more reliable buses as “articulated”, commuters in East Flatbush, Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights are not fooled to say the least. Even the “articulated” bus drivers are livid with the service cuts “enhancements”. This enhancement transit service decision actually followed recent “enhancements to the B38, B15 and B54 bus lines that didn’t get as much local media attention.
Now the (mostly) boyz and galz at the MTA are taking their enhancement ax to Queens as they tried to sneak an expansive new city bus route redesign map on the world’s borough. And it’s a doozy, as it reveals more truncated routes, bus reductions and the elimination of bus stops. The MTA even had the audacity to hold a workshop meeting in a basement rumpus room under the radar from residents of Jackson Heights in a lame attempt at obligatory transparency. Citizens still showed up in droves waiting to get in to rage at Andy Byford’s face about the “enhancements” coming to their busy route. All he could do was feebly say that they are not set in stone.
The whole reason for these cuts in service was based on dubious data claiming that people weren’t taking the buses as much. So the bright idea and solution is to make them less available. Got it. Somehow these data manipulators (datanipulators?) contracted by the MTA weren’t aware of or too stubborn to recognize the existence of working people who didn’t work in Manhattan, elderly and handicapped people, teenagers, young and middle aged adults going on leisure jaunts would consider using the bus for transit.
So where and how does this correlate to the pleasure ferries for the rich, the millions of dollars all those bus service enhancements have to wind up somewhere. Well, the budget bill for these boats for the past 2 years is $637,000,000 and even with a spending freeze order for more Hornblower boats by Comptroller Scott Stringer. While the city provided the buses with only $250,000,000 during that time. Bill de Blasio and the fucking EDC has spent 2 1/2 times more funding the gentrification ferries than on the city buses since the boats set sail.
It’s bad enough that the NYC ferry is constantly vacant most of the time and doesn’t even compare to the millions of riders every day that take the bus to justify the inequitable subsidy and daily service funding, but even worse is that Hornblower is making the most money from it by just existing even though the city already had two reliable ferry companies. But wouldn’t it have made a little sense to align the Q22 with the ferry instead of having a private company shuttle transferring passengers around if they weren’t going to charge anyone? So taxpayers don’t have to subsidize Hornblower’s shuttle buses too? The same with the other ferry ports around the boroughs also.
But integration of the city buses and the ferry is far from the elitist mind of defiant hypocrite Mayor de Blasio. Because going by his recent decision to blow off the MTA’s capital plan meeting with Governor Cuomo and recent arrogant declarations of his disinterest of allocating funding to the transit system he’s also accountable for, it’s obvious he still doesn’t want to do anything with the buses at all.
Despite the colossal waste of money going into the water drifting boondoggle, it actually has made a little bit of progress regarding ridership with the addition of the Soundview port in the Bronx, which has made the ferries oh so less white in the past year. But the racial and class issue could have been remediated a lot more if de Blaz and the EDC would have gave the town of Canarsie a port stop, especially since the town actually wanted it. This would have done wonders for the income and race data being that the town and nearby Flatlands and Brownsville are mostly poor, middle class, Black and Spanish. But the Mayor and the EDC saw their petition and told them to drop dead. Unfortunately for Canarsie, the area has an inequitable lack of luxury towers.
There will probably (expectedly) be more belated revelations that will anchor the NYC Ferry with more unsavory things like rigged contracting and the expected donations from Hornblower to the constantly money soliciting and grubbing de Blasio while he continues to re-allocate city transit service funding on these subsidy leaking boats as the service expands to other locations in a few years like Coney Island, which at this moment predatory developers are looking to devour. Or “enhance”
de Blasio’s and the EDC’s enhancement of the breezy water transit for the tower people has led to austerity measures for the working people, aged and handicapped on the streets when it should be the other way around. A pointed ear alien once said that the needs of the many should outweigh the needs of the few. He also was very devoted to logic. And it is clear and obvious, just like this ferry report, that Blaz and the shitty EDC have no sense and never had any use of logic for the distribution of these boats. But they had the logistics for them. And it was for the people they prefer to convenience. And for everyone else that needs the bus, it’s all illogistics.
From the palatial confines of his resort country club Mar-A-Lago, the President of the United States Donald Trump got to fulfill something he surely was itching to do since he got elected by winning the electoral college; He ordered a drone shelling attack on one of this nation’s enemies by killing General Solieiami of the Quds Army of Iran while he was meeting two Iraqi officials at the Bagdhad Airport in Iraq, both of whom also perished in the explosion relegating them to collateral damage as the Pentagon used to say when the U.S. Air Force and Navy shelled villages and towns with air strikes during the invasion and the next 11 years occupying the sovereign nation.
I presume Trump was wearing his bathrobe snacking on leftover meatloaf and two big scoops of ice cream when he was making his fatal executive order and it must have gave him quite a rush to be able to do something so powerful and official similar to what a mob does when he orders some of his capos to “take someone out”. Especially since the President used to do business with these nefarious men to build his nascent empire of luxury towers and hotels back in the late 70’s and 80’s and his disastrous casinos in the early 90’s.
With this whacking though, Trump got to pull this off with the power of the presidency and the law and God on his side. He could not be questioned for his (but mostly the deep/steady state’s) decision, not even by Congress of which he had to get the approval of to execute the execution of the Iranian general. Really, fuck them, I’m the president the people speak through me!
Then the repercussions came.
Apparently Gen. Sulieiami’s assassination and the plans for it was a big foreign policy no-no and boo-boo for a very long time. The elected millionaires were up in bipartisan arms and shocked I tell you that Trump would pull off bombing the amoebas out of Sulli even though they all gave Trump about over 200 billion dollars the last three years building up the military he’s the boss of, watch with gaping mouth as he kiboshed the nuclear deal with Iran and then reinstate crippling economic sanctions against and give the approval of a mission center devoted to the buildup to war with Iran. Speaker Nancy “Pants” Pelosi and Senate Minority “leader” and pro bono AIPAC lobbyist Chuck Schumer (or “Schmuck Chumer”) both claimed to be blindsided by Trump’s autocratic whack job.
The last time there was an assassination of this significance was when Franz Ferdinand was whacked in Sarajevo in 1914, which led to World War I, the alleged war to end all wars. But Trump got on his twitter and stressed that this is fine. That Sulli should have been taken out a long time ago and only he could fix this (wait the latter was said in 2016, doh). Secretary Mike Pompeo crowed also that Solli’s obliteration was just and absolute. Period. Full Stop.
But it wasn’t just convincing enough for Iran and Iraq. With hundreds of thousands of Iranians marching for their beloved military commander as the Iranian fighter planes took the skies (didn’t know Iran had an air force, oh shit). Messages from Iraqi officials to the U.S. State and Defense department officials and generals were blunt. They didn’t want U.S. around anymore, as if Iraqi’s storming the U.S. Embassy in solidarity of the missile attack on Hezbollah in Iran days before the assassination wasn’t enough of a message. Seriously, it looked like after over a decade of an empire’s occupying force (except from the U.S. military bases built there) and the genesis and rise of ISIS, the Iraqi government and the populace had enough of U.S.’s presence.
Following a general’s acknowledgement of Iraq’s sovereign demand, another U.S.A.F. general went on T.V. running off at the mouth that it was all misstated and their staying put. Everything’s fine. But it didn’t stop Mr. President from talking shit about levying sanctions on Iraq like in the bad old days of Saddam Hussein even though we had to invade their nation based on 9/11 complicity lies so we can give them sweet democracy.
As for the drone bombing, Pompeo kept going on the podium and gaslighted his faceanus off justifying Trump’s attack. Pomp has without an ounce of shame reduced this drone attack to literally assuming what was Soliemani’s mind at the time. Trump assumed/assured that Solie was going to bomb four embassies in Iraq as Pompeo humiliated himself to the press by saying he had solid confirmation of imminent attacks based on his own clairvoyance yet he couldn’t conjure the exact days and times when presumed/assumed attacks on embassies were going to occur. Leaving the impression that Trump and Pompeo each contracted a case of the “Known Unknowns” or what’s unknowingly known as “Rumsfeld’s Disease” period full stop
Around the time this shitshow was on, Iran’s government decided to exact revenge on their beloved and regionally famous general and attacked two U.S. military bases in Iraq. No casualties or even injuries were reported from the enemy missiles shelling them. This reveals two things and that is we got some bad ass technology to detect an attack from hitting U.S. and that our nation retreated from an actual imminent attack and defend our ground. Unfortunately, when Iran did this they also shot a civilian passenger Boeing jet out of the sky, killing over 160 people including about 70 Iranians. Which shows they are also careless while playing war games too and also aren’t ashamed to lie about their deadly incompetence.
Which is basically what this whole conflict is about even if it’s good that the U.S. is trying to avoid one. Because since the whacking of Soliemani and the shit-tweeting and self-righteous colonial boasting that followed, Trump and the boys have been retreating constantly trying to downplay the severity of their deadly mistake, even calling their attack an act of peace. A classic case of talking a big game but being afraid of the bloody consequences and of losing the battle.
Richard Clarke, the man who was in George W Bush’s Defense Dept. during the 9/11 attacks has to remind everyone that engaging in a war with Iran will lead more years of fighting, trillions of dollars more spent and millions of people dying, crippled and displaced and the result will still be Iran being a sovereign nation. But it’s doubtful that Trump, Pompeo, the military industrial complex and the neocon Republicans and fauxgressive DC democrats will give a shit because the only reason why we get into wars preemptively and gratuitously is for only one thing. Profits. While Pelosi was diddling with her impeachment papers, Trump was making the rounds at Mar-a-Lago telling his members something hyuge was going to happen in the middle east, then suddenly stocks in defense manufacturing went up.
Sure it’s suspect that Trump only whacked Solli to distract the nation from impeachment and also to fuck with the Democratic primary to have them focus on foreign policy and not domestic issues in high demand like free health care and college and taxing the multi-billionaires. But finding away to spend all that military cash just to build up more for it is the American way and has been for the last century plus six years. This isn’t going to stop anytime soon. But in the meantime, our current leaders are acting chickenshit in executing our empirical goals.
As expected from a bunch of warmongering chickenhawks and a draft evading, spoiled rotten and barely educated mook from Queens.
Robberies went up by 3.1 % (probably stemming from cellphone theft from peoples dependence on them for purchases and also addiction to texting and binge watching)

There were 766 total shootings a rise of 2.9% from 2019 and murders cracked the 300 mark in three years with a total 318 in the safest big city in the world
One evening in December, one murder would wind up getting international attention.
Manhattan
In Morningside Park, an 18-year-old woman, Barnard college student and bass player went for a walk in the park nearby her school and then was attacked and brutally beaten on the base of the stairs in a robbery attempt and was stabbed multiple times all over her body. The woman crawled up the stairs while bleeding profusely that got the attention of a patrol guard by Columbia University who just came back from doing his rounds. A butterfly knife and a phone belonging to her were found next to her body. The woman bled to death hours later.
What was initially described in the NY Daily News and NY Post as an attack by a group of men was debunked when the NYPD arrested a 13-year-old boy suspect that reportedly confessed to being an accomplice to the murder. The boy told investigators that he was with his two friends, both 14, and was just looking to rob people. He said they came upon the woman after his friends saw a man and didn’t bother with him and went after her. The boy then recounted his friend putting her in a headlock and going through her pockets then stabbed her when she fought back and bit his other accomplice on the finger.
One of the boys was also arrested but was released for lack of evidence, and the boy suspected of committing the murder reportedly showed up to the precinct for an interview but ran away and was out of state for weeks. The NYPD then put up his picture for publishing in the local papers and websites. He finally returned to Harlem with his relatives and met with the defense attorney and was subsequently not charged and released, as the boy in custody remains the only one charged with the killing even though he claimed he never stabbed her. Although he alleged in his account of the homicide that he did pick up the knife and handed it to the alleged killer before they both ran from the park. Then there is part where the victim bit the boys finger that led to the stabbing, so far no DNA report has surfaced of the suspect who just resurfaced. The lone suspect is still imprisoned in a juvenile facility as he awaits trial in family court in March, as the killer is still roaming on the streets.
As the search for the murder weapon on the parks grounds and ponds were fruitless, the NYPD has been extremely cautious in handling this. The chief of detectives, on his first week on the job, refused to respond on the progress of the homicide case (although he did reveal that the third suspect never did run away when he was brought to the precinct). In a combination of trepidation and stonewalling, it’s clear that the NYPD and prosecutors don’t want this to turn into a Central Park five case from exactly 30 year ago that will cost the city another 50 million dollars.
Mayor de Blasio’s response to the murder from his crooked mouth was moronic and tone-deaf as expected, as he remarked how unbelievable that a killing like that could have happened in this city and under his watch at that place (his actual sentence structure). But as usual with the pathological, habitual lying mayor; the facts on the ground belie those parsing words. Because Morningside Park is still treacherous to walk around there at night (and day) despite all the constant reports and press release boasts of lowering crime in the last two decades as robberies have rose 82% in the park in the last year.
In fact, just a few weeks before Tessa Majors murder in Morningside Park, a man was attacked inside a dog park by a man who attempted to hold him up at knifepoint, but the man clocked him in the face and the suspect ran away as the man fell down a flight of stairs after the tussle. Outside of the park a food delivery man was held by two men brandishing a knife and a gun and robbed his scooter, $60 and his cellphone. During the search of the park a few days after the murder, cops nabbed a man for holding up an app-food delivery guy and stealing his bike.
But it’s not just the usually clueless mayor to cite to blame, for Columbia and Barnard were not diligent enough to warn students about the rise in crime in Morningside Park, as students either had to hear from more streetwise students or presume it was safe probably because of the safest big city narrative being constantly bandied about by elected officials and NYPD monthly pressers and parroted by corporate local news media.
Speaking of the NYPD, the NY Post did a followup story on rising crime at Morningside Park with a student from Columbia who was attacked on those very same steps where Ms. Majors was slayed, when three boys surrounded him and robbed $120 off him when one of them flashed a box cutter at him. This was his recollection:
“They asked me where I was from and if I had any money. At first, I didn’t think they were threatening me, so I told them I didn’t have any money. Then, they showed me an open knife, so I gave them my wallet and they took my money,” Yu told The Post Friday from his Harlem apartment.
“I was surprised this happened to me. Before I came, I heard that New York is pretty safe, but I encountered these things and it’s really unfortunate.”
When Yu went to the NYPD to report the incident, he was told “several people” had been robbed at the same place “by the same teenagers” but cops couldn’t do much about it because “they aren’t adults.”
“When I heard about the girl who was killed, I thought it was the same group of teenagers, and I was scared,” the student went on, adding he plans to take the campus shuttle from now on.
Do you know what this really means? That if Tessa Majors survived the mugging instead of bleeding to death on the stairs and being that the accused are all minors, the NYPD would have done nothing to help her.
It means that the NYPD is culpable for the death of Tessa Majors.
As well as New York City and State for these misinformed and poorly written bail reform laws and quite possibly the unethical machinations that led to ratifying the eventual closing of Rikers Island. But mostly the culpability of Majors death and any recent past and current victim of violent crime is on de Blasio and the departed commissioners William Bratton and James O’Neill for continuing the blue wall of insouciance.

It kind of makes you wonder if these low rung criminals are able to stash this stuff in cubby hole spots in the Tombs, imagine what some rogue federal official would be able to leave behind for a mercenary killer to pick up and use on an international person of interest in a understaffed prison with exhausted and jaded C.O.’s like the Manhattan Correctional Complex a block away on Centre St.
