Breaking New Bad Days: Big Trouble In Little Guyana II

South Richmond Hill, Queens, New York

Another broad daylight crime happened again in Little Guyana on bustling Liberty Avenue.

Last time it was a brawl on a street corner back on the first day of the Spring that involved a man resorting to taking out a meat cleaver to settle it, which led to cops ultimately ending the tussle by drawing guns on him.

This time it was an attempted robbery of a cell phone store that recently opened. Which led to a massive response by the NYPD and crowds of cellphone correspondents and lookie-loos.

Only one local corporate news station showed up at the incident, Disney/ABC7NY their van parked two blocks away from the scene of the crime.

One cop was hurt during this robbery and was wheeled out on a gurney into the ambulance writhing in pain. This cop’s partner was also injured during this robbery attempt according to Eyewitness News very brief report which doesn’t have any information about the extent of their injuries or how the perp injured them while resisting arrest.

It looks like this was a smash and grab attempt that went wrong. The cops also procured an ebike that was probably used as a getaway ride.

From this layman’s POV, it’s amazing how these cops were able to swiftly respond and stop a smash and grab robbery while in progress. Lucky for this cellphone store, it looks like they were at the right place at the right time.

You never know what you’ll bump into next in these New Bad Days on these NYC streets. Let’s be careful out there and be aware of your surroundings. Deadass.

Voter Apathy Ensures Governor Kathy Clown’s Primary Victory

New York, New York, USA

Thanks to over 12,000,000 registered voters not showing up to the polls on a very pleasant summer day, Kathy “Clown” Hochul luckily won the Democrat Primary race in a landslide despite her brazen in plain sight corruption and being a very stupid person, allowing her to continue her path to officially be the first elected woman governor of New York.

Less than a million registered Democrats showed up to fill the box for her over the surprising second place winner, the publicly absent advocate Jummane Williams and the mild mannered underdog Tom Suozzi who actually dominated the debates against his two unqualified foes with excellent barbs against them and solutions to the problems the incumbent has exacerbated with her idiotic decisions and her self-serving greedy actions to keep herself in power and accrue even more personal wealth while in office.

Governor Kathy Hochul’s Stupid Corruption

Albany, New York, America

The day Andrew Cuomo departed from the governor’s mansion following a barrage of sexual harassment accusations from staffers and acquaintances was a glorious one and an actual cause for celebration. His exit was quick, anti-climatic and self-debasing, leaving him a hollow shell of the powermad, power brokering, megalomaniac governor that ruled with an iron fist for a decade.

What made it seem sweet at the time was that his replacement became the first woman to run the state of New York, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul, who arrived with a veneer of feminist glory who promised to restore dignity and transparency to Albany while bringing down the perpetual internecine corruption and obeisance to oligarch and corporate donors that has plagued upstate politics and make government work good for the people in her new interim role she inherited from Mario’s Son.

But something funny happened on Kathy’s way to the governor’s mansion. Since taking over the reins from the skeevy claws of Andy Cuomo in a little less than a year, she carried on and even equaled the same corruption and obeisance committed by her predecessor with absolute impunity and wanton abandon, which was enabled by her Democrat majority allies in the Senate and Assembly just like how they emboldened the last guy.

Governor Hochul also embraced her new power with vigor and immediately abused it like Mario’s son did also. She wielded this right away when she also revived the governor’s executive emergency powers to enforce the vaccine extortion mandate, forcing state workers to comply to vaccinations or get fired. Kathy Clown was so fervently self-righteous about her dictates that she actually had a novelty necklace pendant made with the word “vaxxed” and then demanded of her constituents to be her vaccine apostles to go after what she declared were mindless heathens who refused to comply to the state mandated/dictated jabs.

But it was more than just Jesus and God that made Kathy Clown all hyper-evangelical about vaccines and vaccinations because her proselytizing was more motivated by her biblical devotion to Big Pharma, being that her daughter-in-law is a lobbyist for Biogen Industries which are partnered with Pfizer for their other experimental drug to alleviate Parkinsons and Alzheimers disease that Kathy Clown steered a contract for.

https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/04/kathy-hochul-01.jpg?quality=75&strip=all

Who is this happy getting vaccinated for the fourth time in less than a year? Kathy Clown that’s who.

While continuing Cuomo’s asinine and two-tier pandemic guidelines, Kathy Clown spent most of her first month as the history making first woman governor by going to clustering fundraiser galas all over New York in a taxpayer funded airplane, compiling over 21 million dollars donations from individual plutocrats and myriad corporations and also tons of dark money from nearly hundreds of LLC’s with unidentifiable partners as Hochul and her campaign refused to disclose who their donors were. Making a mockery of government transparency with blatant pay to play patronage that made Cuomo’s recidivist soliciting tame by comparison. (thanks again to Citizens United). A majority of these LLCs are from real estate with robust building portfolios. One of her largest real estate donors recently exposed has the distinction of being tied to Russian oligarchs that had sanctions levied on them following their nations invasion of Ukraine weeks after she decided to allocate millions of tax dollars for a cyber security apparatus in Albany to thwart hacking from Russia, even though people still had trouble getting rental assistance Hochul promised on the state websites and as well as other agency services and how easy it is for domestic hackers to breach New York City and State’s emergency services webpages to plunder data from citizens, showing that the enemy to our cyber infrastructure will always be us.

When it came time to put the Big Ugly New York State Budget together, Governor Kathy Clown was hard at work making sure the Buffalo Bills got a new stadium, even as her aides were getting mass infected with COVID.  The 1.13 billion dollar corporate welfare giveaway for the Bills new playground got approved by the feckless establishment Democrat Assembly and Senate leaders and electeds despite majority rejection from NYS and NYC citizens who have to pony up the majority of the subsidies, which also includes COVID-19 relief funding and most of it practically extorted from monies accrued from casinos owned by a Native American tribe which Kathy Clown froze the accounts of, while the Florida Man and Wife owners of the team will spend 550 million dollars from their fracked gas industry fortune to pay for the new stadium, giving them 50 million dollars to continue hoarding and Kathy Clown’s constituents get leveled by austerity cuts to basic services from public housing, mental health, drug addiction and mass transit (which will make asshole demands for a congestion pricing tax to pay for it more fervent).

Kathy Clown didn’t just push this irresponsible tax giveaway to her hometown team just for the Bills diehard devoted fans, but obviously also for her brazen conflict of interest involving her husband Bill Hochul and the hospitality corporation, Delaware North who he represents as their top lobbyist and vice president, who already have a contract with the team to sell overpriced concessions for them in their current still standing stadium, given Kathy Clown’s government philanthropy to the Bills owners, it’s rest assured that Delaware North will make even bigger profits as surely will the personal fortunes of Kathy and Buffalo Billion Bill Hochul, whose employer is already making big bank with concession contracts in state parks and casinos all over New York State.

The stupidest corruption Kathy Clown committed was her pick for Lt. Governor, Brian Benjamin. While serving as a State Senator and running in the primary for NYC Comptroller, Benjamin and a Harlem real estate developer he was allied with took brazen advantage of the matching funds law and illicitly raised straw donor cash from unconfirmed and very unlikely sources which included one that was still wearing diapers. Despite their cognizance of multiple investigations of Benjamin’s widespread graft and his blatant denial of it during the shitty vetting process, Kathy Clown’s administrative staffers approved him anyway even though the Governor wasn’t even present in the room when this shitty vetting was happening at the time, obviously and cynically to secure the Black vote in her first gubernatorial run to remain in office.

Just like with her own Buffalo Billion deal, the State Assembly rushed to write and pass a bill bailing out Kathy Clown’s campaign to get the toxic Benjamin off the ballot so she could find another Person Of Color to cynically pander and hope to grab votes from with her new pick for Lt. Gov, Congressman Antonio Delgado. Even though his record is clean (dude is backed by bitcoin donors), this pick was fucking stupid because it assured a red wave takeover of congress with GOP candidate Marc Molinaro leading polls to capture it. This follows up Kathy Clown and her establishment fauxgressive Democrat allies in Albany’s pathetic attempt to gerrymander/Hochulmander districts to maintain their one party rule in New York and in DC.

Kathy Clown is able to get away with all this stupid corruption mainly because of the precedent Andrew Cuomo laid down with his own. Because Cuomo was publicly and legally prosecuted, forced into resignation and public exile for the absolute wrong thing when compared to the other government crimes he committed during all that serial groping of his attractive aides. From his dismantling of the Mollen Commission that led to the convictions of former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and Senate Majority Leader Dean Kallos, to his reckless profligate misuse of state funds for a Buffalo Billion microchip plant which led to the indictments and imprisonment of the CEO, and a movie studio in Onondaga County that got recently sold for a buck. And ultimately his ghoulish and heinous abuse of executive power he bestowed on himself during year one of the COVID19 pandemic where he issued edicts exempting nursing homes of their responsibility of the 15,000 plus deaths of elderly people  and writing a book about his handling of the pandemic while all that   gerrymandering of covid patients from hospitals to nursing homes was going on. Those same nursing homes and hospitals have also donated tons of money for Kathy Clown’s return to Albany as well.

Since this series of unfortunate and embarrassing events that have sullied Kathy Clown’s campaign trail and momentum, the governor is trying to pull another secretive boondoggle deal with predominant real estate developer Vornado to turn Penn Station into another Hudson Yards and even got infected with COVID while continuing to maintain her executive powers limiting her constituents liberties and movements. She also continues to hold on to the bail reform laws that has caused crime to explode in the city she’s trying to overdevelop. Kathy Clown also recently got exposed snatching $2,000,000 from state coffers to build a hip loft extra governor’s office in Buffalo in a building that just happens to be owned by another one of her real estate donors. It’s hysterical and even more dismaying how she can get away with the same shit Brian Benjamin got away with even though all he did with his dark money LLC donor cash was fill up his gas tank and pay for a wedding reception.

Unfortunately and even after her disgraceful primary debate performances, this outlandishly stupid woman still gets good poll numbers despite the stupid corruption she’s embroiled in, only proving that Kathy Clown Hochul is the right person and absolutely qualified to run a flailing and failing state run by oligarchs and plutocrats, enabled by an apathetic and exhausted electorate.

Nothing will fundamentally change because of this. Unless you vote.

The NYPD’s Secret Policeman’s Ball For Pfizer

Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, New York

Something fascinating and wholly newsworthy happened in Manhattan not long ago, the NYPD held their annual honorary service gala event that took place on the Intrepid Museum but instead of holding it for the 35,000 strong police force that took an oath to serve and protect the citizenry of the five boroughs, they held it solely in honor of the biggest pharmaceutical drug maker in the world Pfizer and their CEO, “Dr.” Albert Bourla.

But for some fucking reason, it didn’t make any news on the city’s corporate local news mass media outlets and newspapers and news websites. Mainly because this gala tribute to Pfizer taking place in a taxpayer funded battleship was closed to all press, so no local journalists bothered to show up.

But an independent news site actually did.

The fact that absolutely no New York City journalist avoided to bother showing up in total deference and obeisance to the NYPD and City Hall’s heinous approval to ban them from reporting on this as a news site from Canada had to have the integrity and balls to do it for them is an absolute travesty. It’s also more proof that NYC is truly run by an oligarchy that has regulatory captured and neutered not only the swaggering Mayor Eric Adams but New York’s Finest as well, using them as excessively militarized toy soldiers to protect them from accountability.

Because of the New York City press corps feckless fealty to this regulatory captured city and surrendering their collective journalistic integrity, we don’t even know who showed up to this ludicrous tribute. It would have been nice and informative to see if officials like Commissioner Keechant Sewell arrived since she’s the boss. It would also have been interesting if the unkempt NYC Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan showed up there since he’s still enforcing the vaccine extortion mandate policy on municipal and private sector workers that is making more billions from taxpayers for the so-called free, safe and effective vaccines.

Or maybe since this was specifically an honor for Pfizer for providing “public safety” to the citizenry, Mayor Adams old NYPD crony Phil Banks could have been caught going into the museum to, since Adams wholly manufactured a six figure salary municipal job for him as the so-called Czar of Public Safety, which could also be a de facto deputy police commissioner position.  For all we know, Mayor Eric Adams could have showed up there unannounced or by stealth despite how much he’s obsessed with celebrity attention, fame and glory.  Thanks to the efforts of Rebel News, we know that former SNL and 30 Rock comedic actor Tracy Morgan showed up as well. Would have been nice if Marcia Kramer was there to ask him what the fuck he was doing there.

But it’s clear why the press was absent and it’s because Pfizer also laid predominance and preeminence on their networks as well. This easily trickles down to the local newspapers who act as stenographers for the to big to fail and jail Big Pharma companies that don’t dare report on the vaccines and mandates that have failed to protect people, rewriting stories about them in hypnotic mantras of how “safe and effective” and how “rare” the side effects and injuries from vaccines are.

Perhaps the most shocking thing about this is how the NYPD would acquiesce to hold an honorarium for a corporation that through it’s influence and takeover of government via the pandemic with the mandates forcing people to take their shitty vaccines by blackmail after thousands of cops got fired for refusing to comply, which is wholly antithetical to the camaraderie culture that’s been ingrained in this city’s police force for about 2 centuries. The fact that Mayor Adams allowed this city for a sole corporation to take over the NYPD is horrific and startling, especially taking away city resources from his constituency with the monumental rise in crime since he took office just because Dr. Albert is a wee bit insecure and a shitload paranoid that people would show up to disrupt his private party. But it should be noted that this top secret gala is following a trend of events and conventions that have been hostile and suppressing journalists and information in the last week with the World Economic Forum’s convention in Davos and the Bildeberg Meeting involving corporations, oligarchs and elected officials.

Even more disturbing and dystopian about Pfizer’s takeover of the NYPD is how they  proselyte themselves as the saviors of the planet with their vaccines by proclaiming themselves as “The Science” as if they are some kind of deity that should never be questioned or doubted. No wonder they thought they would get away with hiding their data about the adverse reactions to their hazardous experimental mRNA shots for over 75 years.

Most of all, this suppression of journalism comes right after the head of homeland security in Britain just approved the extradition of Julian Assange to the U.S. for his eventual incarceration and surely death in federal prison just for doing the news and informing the public of crimes made by federal government agencies on it’s own citizenry and in (formerly) sovereign nations in the world. What the NYPD and Mayor Adams did allowing this event to go unreported is the normalization and legalization of corporate impunity of a recidivist pharmaceutical company who caused harm against their customers with harmful drugs and will open the cage door for other corporations in other fields of industry to follow. And then they will throw a slobbering ball for them to indulge themselves in their opulent crapulence.

Queens Is Still Burning And More Housing Insecure: Three Houses Destroyed In Wind Whipping Fire, Family Of Three Killed In Basement

South Richmond Hill, Queens, New York

Queens Chronicle

A 5-alarm fire tore through multiple homes Friday afternoon in South Richmond Hill, taking the lives of three civilians and leaving five firefighters with minor injuries.

Two of the three deceased were found in 104-18 125th Street on Friday night, the FDNY told the Chronicle. By Saturday afternoon, the third was found in the same building, the FDNY said; the search is still ongoing. The NYPD told the Chronicle that the victims have yet to be identified, as of Saturday afternoon.

The fire began at approximately 1:15 Friday afternoon, neighbors said. By 2:15, it had been declared a 2-alarm fire, and within less than an hour, it had been upped to 5-alarms. As the FDNY worked to calm the blaze on 125th Street between Liberty Avenue and 107th Avenue, neighbors stood on the sidewalk and sat on their stoops, watching in awe at the cloud of smoke.

Residents told the Chronicle that the block is a tight-knit community; that was clear as some comforted their neighbors; meanwhile, others walked up and down the block, handing out water bottles to firefighters and police officers.

As many as five houses were affected by the fire, with three — 104-20, 104-18 and 104-16 — taking the lion’s share of the damage. Two homes across the street had their windows blown out.

A fairly narrow street, many of the homes are quite close together, making it plausible for fire to spread across several of them. On top of that, Friday afternoon was particularly windy, which only made the fire bigger.

Though the FDNY press office said that the cause is not yet known, Rafena Santram, who lives in 104-16 and whose daughter was home when the fire began, said that a backyard propane tank was involved. Fortunately, Santram said, she has family in the area who she and her family can stay with in the meantime. Red Cross officers were on the scene by 4:30 p.m., working with residents to determine how best to assist them.

The Red Cross later said that it is assisting nine families — 29 adults and 13 children — affected by the fire.

Nine families living in two family houses. A few of them living in the basements, which included the family that perished from the explosion and the inferno. While the block is a close knit community, these families could have lived in a safer home if the city didn’t have such an incremental “affordable housing” program for middle class and working poor families and built 75-80% of it for wealthier people. How many more citizens will have to risk their lives and livelihoods to find an affordable place to live? And how many homeowners can hang on to their properties with the massive taxes they pay compared to ones in wealthier enclaves that they have to rent out their basements to settle in their hometowns?

New Bad Days 98: Mayor Adams Leadership And His Jacket Fails To Stop The Gun Violence, Leading To The Random Shooting Deaths Of A Little Girl And A Working Man And Culminating In An OK Corral Shootout In Coney Island; Muggings, Violence, And Mental Breakdowns Ascend On The Transit Lines; Unsafe Lithium Batteries Still Causing Mass Destruction Of Businesses And Homes; Another Mass Shooter In Brooklyn Misses All His Targets; Man Murders Clairvoyant Woman For Alleged Gypsy Spell; Smash And Grab Robbers Narrowly Escape Closing Gate; Drunkard Tries To Shoot Down An EMT Inside The Ambulance; Cops Gun Down Two Armed Men On The Attack Days Apart From Each Other As More Random Attacks, Shootings, Stabbings, Car Theft, Juvenile Criminal Actions And Attacks On The Elderly Continue Their Upward Trends

Mayor Eric Adams and his quasi-technicolor dreamcoat

Eric Adams, chosen by the voters and the oligarchy to run New York City, just cannot catch a break. Yet again, perhaps he doesn’t deserve one with the way he’s conducted himself in his 5 months in office as voters let him have it in a poll saying that he’s not doing a damn thing to bring downs shootings and crime in general. Adams hit a personal nadir with his decision to attend the ostentatious Met Gala fashion show and arrived wearing a hideous tuxedo coat with weird Keith Haring derivative art and the words “End Gun Violence on the back of it. A week after he wore that stupid ass jacket, a total of 26 shootings occurred in NYC hitting 29 New Yorkers.

Shootings continue to persist in a rapid pace despite the best efforts of the NYPD to get guns off the street which showed a modest percentage decline. The breakneck speed proliferation of “ghost guns” has surely made these efforts extremely difficult. But the gun violence in May were dreadfully pronounced, notably with the stray bullet slaying of an 11-year-old girl in the Bronx and the insane random killing of a big bank worker in the subway, which happened to be the same line where Frank James shot up the N train during rush hour, hitting over a dozen people.

Instead of embracing this progress and making sure it maintains stability while monitoring it from City Hall, Adams reverted back to vainglorious form and abandoned the city to go to Los Angeles for another fundraiser and engage in more starfucking hanging out with the elites and seeing the Dave Chappelle show. Even worse is that Mayor Swagger missed his flight, either from being tardy from partying all night or he was up all morning cranking out talking points to defend his trip and catch up to the crime crises he has to discuss, like all the massive overtime spent in the NYPD’s budget to bring down felonies. Or maybe he was just plain scared.

Although it seems the Mayor’s own fear and trepidation (which he’s trying to conceal with swagger) could be trickling down to the NYPD as well. Because police presence is still lacking and lagging in the subterranean lunatic asylum transit system as crime and violence ghastly increases every day. One conductor even lashed out at current MTA president Janno Leiber about getting crazy people off the trains once they get out of service and the blatant insouciance response by cops who walk away without removing or arresting the unruly commuter. Which wholly contradicts Adams decision to deploy cops to patrol the trains that haven’t been seen in 40 years. And despite the implementation of former abomination mayor Bill de Blasio’s Smack and Crack Houses in upper Manhattan, junkies are still shooting up their works in the subway more than ever. More suicidal people are using the trains to kill themselves again also.

Hardly being spoken about is the outstanding rise in auto theft, but officials and the media is barely mentioning it because there is a palpable solidarity among the elites that personal car ownership should be abolished in the five boroughs. Graffiti has seen a massive uptick inside the subway too (mostly by above ground stations walls) as tags have become predominant there as well as on building walls and restaurant shanties all over town and most of it is being done by people from other nations, mostly Europeans who are co-opting the genre and culture from the Black and Latino communities. No wonder they look lame.

The biggest scourge in New York City, next to remorseless criminals and crime and crisis denying fauxgressive YIMBYs, is the newest plague of the still burgeoning rat population.  Which shows that like the recidivist criminals, even the rats are not intimidated by Mayor Adams, even after he showed off to the press and public how he drowned a shitload of them in a vat a few years ago. And since then, the rodents are showing Darwinian growth, soon they’ll be walking upright and loitering on street corners and selling swipes at metrocard machines. This will only get worse because Adams refuses to see the root cause that is coming from the restaurant shanties that he won’t remove from the streets.

But at least with crime on the streets and subway Adams is not wholly in denial, since he has desperately resorted to keeping nearly 5,000 cops on payroll that did not comply with the vaccine extortion mandate. Although he should have thought of that when he and that slob Health Commissioner spared Kyrie Irving of getting jabbed so he and the Brooklyn Nets could get their asses kicked and swept by the Celtics in the first round of the NBA playoffs. But the Mayor still has to majorly tone down his proclivity for embellishment and his monumental delusions of grandeur. For now they have reached such new levels of absurdity that even comedian John Mulaney hilariously goofed on Adams for still maintaining his belief that people are cooking BBQ’s in train stations and how his own goofy takes are undermining his agenda to improve NYC. Of course since Adams is megalomaniac, he only saw Mulaney’s comedic criticism as another one of the 30 million opinions New Yorkers have and blew it off, leading the mayor to again claim that God created him to save us all.

It takes a lot of swagger to thank God for your own existence even after months of failure and votes of no confidence from the constituency. It mostly shows a lot of denial is the root cause of all that swagger he yearns to bring back to NYC. Adams devolution to self-parody has become faster than a speeding stray bullet.

Manhattan

In Times Square, a man got swarmed by a gang of men and teenagers after he got into an argument with three of them while waiting on line at a food truck and then they proceeded to brutally lynch him and stab him a bunch of times while he helplessly laid on the pavement.

Also in Times Square, tires were slashed on parked cars near an FDNY station, on cars belonging to secret service agents protecting Trump tower in Midtown and over 20 of them parked on two different streets in Chelsea.

Again in Times Square, a man argued with and then attacked a food vendor and smashed a milk crate over his head and then grabbed a traffic safety cone and threw it at him.

And again in Times Square, a man bum-rushed the median police station while holding a baseball bat and then leapt over the counter and sat down. Then he swung the bat at the cops who were trying to remove him and wound up getting swarmed and beaten down with a billy clubs. A cop friendly fired mace at another cop during the ruckus.

On the Manhattan Bridge, a man shot a commuter to death at point blank range on the Q train for allegedly no reason right before it pulled into the Canal St. Station where the killer exited and gave the murder weapon to a homeless man and ran out into the streets. The homeless man, who usually loiters at the station panhandling sold the gun to a stranger. The accused killer then bought new clothes and a backpack to throw off his trail. The stranger(probably a cop because the homeless man never got paid) then handed the gun to a NYPD detective who was investigating the homicide, the fourth one committed in the subway this year. Then the cops swarmed on the homeless man and cuffed him for trespassing.

https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/05/Subway_MTA_Qtrain_Shooting2.jpg?quality=75&strip=all

The victim of this random act of senseless gun violence was going to meet his friends to have brunch and couldn’t afford to use the price gouging app-hail car service, so he saved nearly 80 dollars to take the subway, basically risking his life just to spend $2.75. His family and the man’s partner expressed dismay and disdain for Mayor Adams and the city’s justice system which they believe have exacerbated the lack of safety in the New York City transit system.

The alleged and accused killer, who had multiple prior arrests, desired to turn himself in with the assistance of a pastor with with close ties to Mayor Adams, but Mr. Swagger thought otherwise and sent the cops to the Legal Aid Society offices where he was meeting with his counsel (which was also a bad idea even if the mayor arresting a person himself would have been weird and set damaging legal precedents for future officials). The “holy man” tried to urge negotiations for the suspects surrender served time grand larceny  and identity theft for pilfering $2,000,000 from investors for illegitimate youth programs and charity work.

The victim worked for Goldman Sachs as a research analyst where his co-workers griped and joked about the inherent danger of taking the subway in these times and wondered if their lame DJ executive boss and his pampered higher-ups at the vampire squid bank would do the same.

The accused killer was recently released without bail after he got arrested for stealing a car because the judge liked that the fact that he showed up to his court house on time. And maybe the fact that the city is trying to induce people to stop driving cars and letting people out for stealing them is a good way to do that.

And as Det. Columbo said there is one more thing, the cops deployed to the station initially let the suspect go as he fled from the Canal St. Station.

NYPD spokesman John Miller also confirmed Tuesday that cops had stopped Abdullah as he fled the station — but let him go because he had changed his appearance and did not fit the description of the shooter.

“‘Why are you stopping me?’” Miller says the accused shooter told the cop. “‘I didn’t do anything,’ and so forth. They radio back. They get the description of the black hoodie. They document the stop and there’s nothing to connect him to that.

“Later, when we get that picture that you saw yesterday you see the sweatpants, the sneakers, the hoodie and underneath it you can see this orange or red shirt,” he said. “And the transit officer looked at that and says, ‘That’s got to be the guy I stopped.’”

The NYPD better hope this is the right guy. Especially now that he’s finally incarcerated.

In Midtown at the 59th St. Station, commuters went into a frenzy after they were trapped in the 6 train as it filled with smoke when it hit a metal object lying on the tracks.

Also in Midtown, a gang of four men went into a recording studio occupied by three other men and then shot up the place and killed two of them during a botched robbery attempt while the victim was producing a track.

Again in Midtown at the 42nd St./Bryant Park Station, a woman attempted suicide by jumping in front of the arriving M train.

And again in Midtown, two men and a woman stepped out of a car attacked a worker from a kosher restaurant and shot at him with their bb guns, hitting him in the eye. Then chased him inside and threw a broom and a mop at him after he ran behind the counter.

And again in Midtown, a man got slashed in the neck and another man got stabbed in the stomach during a brawl on the street.

And again in Midtown, a man ran a fencing operation in his pawn shop and in storage unit in Queens by exploiting homeless people and petty criminals, paying them a pittance to loot products and gift cards from chain pharmacies while he made over 3 million dollars from his monstrous scheme which he pulled off for 3 years right before the pandemic hit. Which makes him some kind of renaissance man for the New Bad Days.

In Harlem, a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy got shot during a rumble between two gangs by Central Park.

Also in Harlem at the 145th Station, a man confronted a commuter on the stairs,  threatened him to give him money and then punched him in the face and smashed a bottle over his head and knocked him down, then he made off with his wallet.

Again in Harlem, a man got shot to death on the street in front of the Polo Grounds Houses where shootings are a regular occurrence.

And again in Harlem at the 116th St. Station, a man got into argument with another man on the 2 train and attempted to settle it by pulling out his gun, but shot himself in the leg instead.

And again in Harlem, a man punched his girlfriend in the face and destroyed dishes and kitchen chairs when she didn’t make him dinner during a domestic dispute in their apartment.

And again in Harlem, a man stalked a 76-year-old woman right up to her apartment like a shadow and grabbed her purse and bounced.

And again in Harlem, cops found a man in a drug induced state lying prone in the middle of the street and then he awoke and bolted from them. Then he jumped onto a car and stayed on it while in motion and jumped off of it and hit the ground. The man later died from his injuries while in police custody.

In Hamilton Heights, a man stabbed two men during a fight on a street corner, killing one of them.

In East Harlem at the 116th St. Station, two gangs engaged in a shootout on the platform.

Also in East Harlem, a man shot another man in the elbow while brawling with him on the street.

In the Upper West Side, a man jacked a wheelchair from a 96-year-old man who left it outside of the doctor’s office where he had an appointment.

Also in the Upper West Side, a man was so loaded he wasn’t aware his ass was exposed on the 1 train.

Again in the Upper West Side and Harlem, a man held up a fruit cart, 3 mexican food carts and two restaurants at gunpoint and made off with over $3,000 and three cellphones until he got caught by the cops after a worker at a restaurant chased his thieving ass on the street.

And again in the Upper West Side, a man snatched a purse off a 90-year-old woman with a walker as she was exiting Central Park.

In Hell’s Kitchen, a man got shot when he stepped out of his car on a street corner shortly before dawn.

Also in Hell’s Kitchen, an off-duty C.O. used his service gun as a toy and fired a few shot in the air while on the street and let a friend of his squeeze off a couple rounds as well.

Again in Hell’s Kitchen, a man shot another man on the street as the sun rose in the morning.

And again in Hell’s Kitchen, a man got into a cab with three other men after leaving a nite club and wound up dead in the Lower East Side after being drugged by them. Then they stole his phone and hacked into his bank account and stole $20,000 from it.

The girl couldn’t dodge the bullet after trying to  duck under a car with her friends and then she bled out in excruciating pain inside the nail salon where a friend of hers was getting her nails done.

Before the 15-year-old boy got arrested for the senseless killing of an innocent girl, he hid out with his mother at advanced care facility and then his mom rented a hotel room where the cops tracked him down. Although his mother was not arrested for harboring a fugitive.

In Pelham Bay, a man and a woman got shot to death and left behind inside a burning car on a road by a golf course after getting abducted then beaten and stabbed multiple times by a gang that the woman had a beef with after she was mugged and had her purse robbed by them.

The couple’s execution was revenge exacted by the rival gang who avenged her mugging by shooting a gangbanger to death that was involved in the mugging. Then her killers got revenge for that for gunning down two of her gangbanger friends on the street the night before they came after her. The man she was with was not involved in feud and was only going out with her at the time.

untraceable weapons

In Mount Hope, an argument between a man and a group of other men in front of a smoke shop escalated when one of them pulled out a bat and then the man pulled out a ghost gun and blasted at his assailant at point blank range and continued emptying his clip and killed his foe inside the store as stray bullets hit another man and a woman from the fusillade. Then the man went back to work at his job at Taco Bell following the homicide. The murder weapon was found in his grandparents house where he stored an arsenal of homemade automatic weapons and ordinance.

The killer was arrested nearly two years ago for gun possession while walking on the street with a bullet proof vest and a grenade launcher rifle and was subsequently released without bail by a judge thanks to the idiotic bail reform set by shitlib fauxgressive lawmakers in Albany and still remains on the books. He then spent the time showing gratitude for his release by ordering more gun parts through the mail while abusing his parents at their house.

In Morris Park, a man walked up to a jewelry store with a sledge hammer and smashed the window in broad daylight. Riding it on the sidewalk of course.

Also in Fordham Heights and in Foxhurst, two men riding on or together on unlicensed motor scooters are involved in a one month robbery sprees where they roll up on sidewalks as pedestrians are walking on the sidewalk and snatch chains from their necks. Mayor Adams’s Gates Of $$$teal

Manhattan, New York

Poor Mayor Eric Adams, he just cannot catch a break with the explosion in crime that has laid siege on New York City. All of which has made a mockery of all his campaign promises last year and his very short time implementing policing policies to bring crime down. Adams has tried everything so far, restoring NYPD gun patrol units (under a new brand), restoring “broken windows” style enforcement, and beefing up police deployments in the subway and it has yielded mitigating to zero results. Adams’s failures are profoundly emphasized in the persistent gun violence in the five boroughs and the underground lunatic asylum and violent dystopia that is the NYC Transit System with random attacks still happening on the regular and two nationally recognized shooting incidents on the same transit line with the mass shooting by Frank James and the most recent random shooting and killing of commuter Daniel Enriquez on the N train a few weeks ago.

Now left to his own devices and with all these morale crushing crises and adding to his most recent proposal to deter rising crime to censor words on social media platforms, Mayor Adams thinks he has the solution to stop ascending crime stats and to bring society in NYC back to normalcy, not by expanding the man/woman powered resources and services the city already has and spends billions upon billions on every day but on metal detectors that the Mayor wants to place everywhere where people commute and congregate . Although Adams insists you don’t pejoratively call them metal detectors, for these are “weapons detectors”, scanners programmed with artificial intelligence manufactured by security corporation Evolv.

Although it’s not like this just came out of the blue, Mayor Adams has been harping about these scanners for months, practically marketing and promoting them for the chosen tech company that has their product scanning every individual going into stadiums and arenas all over the nation and Hizzoner wants these babies to be placed in the subway and the city’s schools.

The mayor gave the Evolv scanners it big debut in the public square at the gated entrance by the steps at City Hall before his grand announcement of the beginning of a trial run before they get placed in high crime hot zones and public buildings and popular destinations. And as expected with every other Adams grand presentation, something went horribly and hysterically awry. When CBS New York’s veteran correspondent Marcia Kramer went through the gates, she triggered the A.I. alarms with her IPad because of the binders she kept it in gave off the shape of a gun just like when a cop passed through and the AI revealed the same thing with his own weapon.

To illustrate how retarded these detectors are, here’s a juxtaposition of the NYPD’s government issue 9mm Glock and Ms. Kramer’s tablet accessory.

https://cdn.athlonoutdoors.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2018/05/leo-sidearms18-nypd.jpghttps://store.storeimages.cdn-apple.com/4982/as-images.apple.com/is/HPPW2?wid=890&hei=890&fmt=jpeg&qlt=95&.v=1631143662000

During Adams’s press briefing following his sales pitch to his constituents about how Evolv will protect them from gun violence, Ms. Kramer brought up an gun confiscation incident in a public school in South Jamaica, Queens that was successfully accomplished by public safety officers, pointing out how human intelligence was sufficient enough to stop a potential shooting inside or near the school. But the only thing the visibly flustered Mayor Adams acknowledged was the proliferation of guns but not the human effort to stop them so he continue justifying the purported essential need for the Evolv gun detectors to be a common facet in New Yorker’s lives and also tourists coming to this city.

Mayor Adams and Evolv’s surely have valid reasons for wanting these scanners all over the place, but it’s mostly to assure a quick and very abundant cash flow for the corporation and their investors and for the tech enthusiastic and gleefully agency captured Adams to reward his donors for spending so much to get him in City Hall than it is about the public safety that the mayor promised to bring back to his constituents. Adams obtuseness and willful obliviousness wholly lines up with Evolv’s well documented faulty scanners.

Only a few days before the “test pilot” announcement, a story came out about another grand presentation public safety product by Mayor Adams while he was Brooklyn’s borough president of a new weapon called Bolawrap, a gun designed to shoot cables at fleeing and encroaching criminals legs, causing them to fall on the ground making them easily detainable (bet these would have been used against protesters too).

Then BBP Adams put a test pilot on this ludicrously cartoonish weapon and was  rightfully mocked on social media platforms as Spiderman’s web shooter and Batman’s Bat lasso gun he uses against costumed villains henchmen and for climbing celebrity residential buildings.  They eventually were instantly rejected by the NYPD because of it’s similarity of sound to their service guns when fired (although not because of the prospect of lawsuits that would follow once these lasso guns were used), but not before the bolawrap stock value got elevated on Wall St. and the corporation and investors of the bolawrap were able to make massive profits during the short time during Adams’s incessant promotion of the device, which included his lawyer, Crooklyn Dem Party crony and current chief of staff Frank Carone who was able to pocket and plunder over a cool quarter million from the brief public safety weapon trial run and was able to use that cash to contribute to Mayor Adams’s PACs and mayoral campaign as Wrap Technologies CEO did the same with his newfound riches of his failed product, donating five figures to bolster Adams’s ambitions for higher office.

You don’t have to be much of a detective to figure out the same pattern going on here with Evolv’s weapon detectors and Mayor Adams desperation pitch for them. Because it’s deja vu pay to play all over again since two of Evolv’s biggest investors donated a million dollars to Adams’s mayoral campaign and are sure to get another rampant cash windfall from the weapon scanners pilot as well. In fact, Evolv’s own business model is set up for take the money and run schemes that opportunistically take advantage of tax payer funded municipal experiments.

From the New York Focus:

Last year, after introducing an upgraded version of its smart body scanners — which the company says can screen more than 3,600 people per hour, 10 times faster than a traditional metal detector system — Evolv went public. It did so by merging with a special purpose acquisition company, a publicly traded shell corporation set up by investors to merge with or acquire companies that want to avoid the multiple rounds of fundraising, business plan refining, and prolonged scrutiny that accompany the traditional initial public offering process.

The year before going public, Evolv made less than $5 million in revenue, according to investor materials published by the company. But the merger and subsequent fundraising quickly earned Evolv $470 million in investments and a $1.7 billion valuation. Such disparity between earnings and valuation isn’t uncommon in the tech space. But it forces companies to focus on growing as quickly as possible — which can lead to overplaying their technology’s capabilities, according to watchdogs.

“If your business model is heavily dependent on sales and marketing to bring awareness to your product, you want to be as strong and as aggressive as possible,” IPVM’s Maye told New York Focus and Fast Company.

Evolv’s neoliberal business model  sort of makes you wonder if Mayor Adams and his NYPD’s lagging efforts to fight crime is to justify placing their scanners everywhere, thus giving them a monopoly on security the way Citibike has on the bike share system, exploiting the rising crime rates as a shock doctrine final solution to stem gun violence. What’s surreal about this is that the regulatory captured City Council and Borough Presidents also shamelessly promote Citibike with the same shameless and mindless fervor Adams is doing with these proven faulty gun detectors so all his donors can obscenely profit from the new fear city atmosphere in the prospect that the citizenry will acclimate to the sight of these in train stations.

One things for sure, the Product Placement Mayor’s obtuse defense of this shit product to make them ubiquitous throughout the city is an immensely lazy response to stop the shootings, killing and myriad other gun related felony crimes that wholly jibes with his desire to censor “violent words and phrases” and the collective tech bro philosophy that artificial intelligence is and should be the default solution to society’s ills and the recovery of cities. And its actually something that the NYPD, mass transit and civil liberties experts are in solidarity agreement with; that these weapon detectors will only cause mass inconvenience than assuring public safety for all that has to deal with them on a daily basis, mostly commuters and the cops that have to monitor them and not those who will profit from them in the safety of their town cars and luxury condos and homes and their government offices and own police protection service.

Mayor Eric Adams like to say, with persistent repetition almost every day, that “public safety is the path to prosperity”. But with these garbage scanners it’s painfully obvious that prosperity for the few and powerful is being prioritized over public safety for his tax paying constituents and their children.

Scenes Of Queens: The Trial Run Queens Borough Tower Jail

This scene takes place in Fresh Meadows at this hotel steps away from the Horace Harding Expressway and also a strip mall and public school. This hotel, which has clearly failed to generate any business, was subjected to numerous scoops and solidarity condemnation from the community and elected officials representing the district for it’s use as a homeless shelter for men who were recently released from Rikers Island and was used during the pandemic as housing for a hundred inmates during the pandemic to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the island’s facilities. Which was irresponsibly made possible following former Mayor de Blasio and the City Council cronies collaborative effort to shut down Rikers to build four tower jails in the boroughs except for Staten Island. But from the optics of this building, it seems that  this hotel in Fresh Meadows is being used as a trial run tower jail while the official tower jail in Kew Gardens gets developed and which has already started it’s construction.

It’s utterly amazing that the city approved this hotel on a quaint residential block like this. Who in their right mind thought that tourists would dwell here while vacationing in the city and it’s much to big and out of the way to be utilized for prostitution and sex trafficking.

Upon close inspection, the optics in the front entrance belie the element that’s being housed here as cars line up on the sidewalk obstructing most of the entrance of the hotel, despite the ample parking in the lot behind it and the garage inside the building, conveying a palpable sense of security for their neighbors across the street and the passerby young and old.

One thing immediately noticeable of how this looks like the tower prison that was imagined by the fauxgressives that legislated for them is that the hotel’s brand name is gone.

Councilmember Barry Grodenchik will tour the Wyndham Gardens Hotel in Fresh Meadows, where more than 100 people are staying after the city moved them off Rikers Island. Google Maps

https://qns.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Wynham-Garden-Hotel-1200x589.png

Optics aside, the elementary proof that this is for all intents and purposes the temporary tower jail until the one in Kew Gardens is completed in a few years from now is how much money the city gave a homeless services provider non-profit to supervise the transferred convicts and those recently sprung and the security contractor they used to watch over them. When former abomination mayor de Blasio (ab)used his emergency powers to use the hotel to house prisoners during the pandemic, he allocated just under a million dollars to the chosen contractor. In the last two years since then, the costs for that “security” exploded to 55 million dollars and it turned out that “security” contractor didn’t even have a license to operate in NYC but got away with city government assisted plunder mostly because this city is still being run under the insane, fascistic and most of all secretive and equally unaccountable NYC health department pandemic protocols and guidelines and the emergency orders protected them from scrutiny.

Mayor Eric Adams, also desperate to curb the homeless problem and continuing the idiotic closure of Rikers Island and still writing pandemic based executive emergency orders, was about to give this diabolical non-profit Exodus another 40 million dollars to continue housing and guarding the former Wyndham Hotel as well as dozen of other hotels in the city but even his fellow Brooklyn Machine ally and simp NYC Comptroller Brad Lander couldn’t justify continuing the contract.  And for all the money spent on this “security” agency, that didn’t translate well to the streets as a rash of petty and felonious crimes rose in the vicinity with a bulk of the perpetrators coming from the hotel. The “security” didn’t translate well inside the hotel as well as a female inmate that was transferred there was sexually assaulted by one of it’s guards.

If this hotel is an experiment to see how life will be like with a neighborhood jail than on an isolated and difficult to access island on the East River, it’s clearly failed the safety and smell test. And with all the money that got pissed away for two years to maintain this hotel as an ersatz prison, then why bother wasting time and money building an elaborate tower jail in Kew Gardens, when this one in Fresh Meadows already is sufficient enough. Probably the only thing you have to do is build a 20 ft wall around it. But the city might need to buy out those homeowners on 186th St. first to get it done.

Just another magnificent disaster by the kakistocracy wrecking NYC.

An Actual Legitimate Affordable Housing Building Grows In Brooklyn!*

East New York, Brooklyn, New York

When I saw this monstrosity being built and now nearly completed, I thought for sure that this was another 80/20 or 75/25 apartment building with incremental “affordable housing” included feigning to alleviate the housing crisis while exacerbating gentrification with the inevitable rise in rental market rate speculation/fabrication that usually follows when luxury public housing being designated mostly for upper class people get built. But holy fucking shit, ths massively dense apartment building in East New York built on Chestnut St. and Atlantic Ave. under former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s affordable housing program is in all honesty actually affordable. This might be the real motherfucking 8th wonder of the world!

Of course like every other apartment building development that’s gone up to add to the tower pestilence dominating land and air, the building is ugly as shit and actually resembles a hospital, make that a mental hospital or even a correctional facility like the MCC in Sunset Park which is also in Brooklyn (which is also under threat of White hipster colonizing)

Even more miraculous about this affordable public housing tower is that it’s probably the first one that actually showed any government transparency about the rents, which actually reflect the area median income for everyone from single people to families of one or two kids, with rents as low as $200 for a studio (!!!) to a little over two grand for a three bedroom (although that might be a little steep if one parent is working). The developers and management even put up print copies of the rent values and number of units from the official New York Housing, Preservation and Development website on the makeshift walls of the near completed development site as if they are cognizant that a lot of low income earning people don’t have computers or can’t afford internet service to play the housing lottery and would rather send in their apps via snail mail.

But go figure they would find a way to fuck this up too. Because all of the copies of the HPD dept.’s bills are in different foreign languages of nationalities that don’t live in the vicinity or even the entire neighborhood, wholly trolling the predominant English and even Spanish speaking communities from figuring out how to get access to these precious abodes.

Not sure who or what demographic the city and this developer think is walking on Atlantic Avenue during the day or night. But it’s highly unlikely many people are walking on this avenue at night being that it’s nothing but a traffic conduit from North Conduit Blvd. But it is odd that they wouldn’t put any copies in English or Spanish on the walls here while they are still up. Its bad enough the city and the developers they subsidized with 421a tax breaks built most of the new housing for people who don’t need to play a lottery to get an apartment or even rich people that exist in NYC at all. This looks like its more designed for recent expat refugees from broken foreign lands being ruled under despots or for people who came on a HB1 visa.

Another fucked up thing about “Chestnut Crossing” is that this was also subjected to absurd marketing to conjure hipness and a desired demographic just like every other overdeveloped housing  to apply by giving this area an ersatz brand (most notorious being the “Piano District” in the South Bronx) by calling it the “ENY Automotive District” .

Even though Whitey’s auto parts and garage is a few blocks down and takes up an entire street in addition to all the chop shops and tire yards in this town, nobody ever called East New York the Automotive District. Never. Ever.

Here’s another thing that’s wholly off about this and how fucking clueless the people who are responsible for the marketing behind this is, on the simulation of the completed apartment building (scheduled to open this July) and the speculated vibrancy and brightness conjured in the depiction it has traffic going east on Atlantic Ave but traffic on that side goes west towards Manhattan.

If there is anything true about that ludicrous ad is that it acknowledges that the hyper dense luxury public housing tower that’s going up across the street that will cover a ton of square feet from Chestnut St. to Euclid Ave. is still going to be a vacant lot for years to come.

About the “affordable housing” development next door, the simulation rendition for the completion of this monstrosity is even more ludicrous and quite heinous, for it re-imagines East New York with not only the displacement of people of color but also the disappearance of the elevated J train tracks.

And this is why New York City can’t have nice things like having a roof over your head and having the ability to save money simultaneously. Because of fucking geeks that work for real estate developers and bureaucracies that have no idea what the towns they are building on and the people they claim (and feign) they are building for. Of course even worse are the neoliberal dweebies befouling the social media platforms praising all this hyper-density hyper-development to the skies and influencing housing policies that are making neighborhoods more expensive (and even more shadowy and darker), which will not change no matter how cheap the Chestnut Crossing apartments are.

Plus there’s still way too many housing insecure people playing the housing lotteries and the odds are getting higher to score a unit and it wasn’t long ago when de Blasio’s housing dept. was juking the lottery to segregate against minorities while “affordable apartments” were being listed in the $2,000 range for studios and $2,300 for one bedrooms. So even when people start moving into Chestnut St., there probably still will be encampments in the grassy knolls at the end of the Belt Parkway intersecting with the Atlantic right across the street.

Because living in and for the city, this stupid dystopian overvalued crime ridden city with a homeless and rent burdened population the size of Delaware, there will always be a thin line between affording housing and access to housing, no matter how much more the city builds.

Rage Against The Rockaway Beach Restoration

Rockaway Beach, Queens, New York

Queens Chronicle

The Rockaway Beach saga continues as the city Parks Department and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a joint statement this week reiterating their partnership in reinforcing the shoreline of the peninsula and continuing work on the groins in the area.

It has now become a bureaucratic battle as lawmakers are imploring Parks and the USACE to consider community concerns.

In a statement last week, the USACE said it would be “as flexible as possible with work schedules to ensure that the work does not pose any safety concerns for beachgoers.”

Then, it issued the joint statement supporting the plan to prohibit access from Beach 92nd to Beach 95th streets and from Beach 109th to Beach 111th streets from Memorial Day weekend until July 15. Full beach access will be limited elsewhere, as well.

“The Summer 2022 operational plan that we collaborated on allows us to keep as much of the beach safely open as is possible, with only six blocks closed to sand access and swimming as construction moves forward,” the agencies said in the statement.

U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Congressman Greg Meeks (D-Queens, Nassau) wrote a letter on Wednesday urging the agencies to hold a community meeting to publicly discuss construction plans.

“It is imperative that there is transparency and engagement with the entire Rockaway community,” the letter stated.

Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Ozone Park) expressed frustration with the “backtracking.”

“After weeks of playing the blame game, I’m not surprised that these government agencies agreed on a decision that does not support our residents, business owners, tourists, or economy,” she said in a statement.

“We’ve worked hard to make sure that the Parks Department will suspend rent collection for the boardwalk concessionaires from Memorial Day through July, but this is still not enough. We will continue to push for full beach access this summer, and closely monitor the project’s timeline to ensure the engineers meet the construction deadline of July 15 so that Rockaway’s shoreline can continue to serve as an attraction for all New Yorkers during the hottest months of the year,” Ariola continued.

The Wave

In response to the proposed beach closures this summer by the NYC Parks Department, a group of Rockaway locals went to Beach 92nd Street, with construction on the beach behind them, to express their displeasure with the plan.

“We want beach access,” said John Cori, who organized the rally attended by around 50 people Sunday afternoon, “This is our beach access, we have it, we don’t want to walk 15 blocks out of our way. We can, but by doing that other people have to do, that means they leave our business district.,” he said.

The rally, originally scheduled for Friday, May 13, but delayed due to weather, came as a response to the Parks’ plan to close and partially close beaches along the Rockaway strip in order to complete jetty construction.

“We hope Parks hears this and listens to the community,” Cori said.

Those against the plan say the closures will harm the businesses on those blocks, particularly the concessionaires on the boardwalk who depend on the foot traffic, but also those further inland.

“We’re tired, we’re tired,” said Erin Silvers, who operates a business on Beach 91st Street and has also worked at the concessionaires.

“We need the beaches open Memorial Day. it’s possible. It’s possible because if we can work hard this community can do what we’ve done all these years…It’s possible, anything is possible,” she said.

From what it looked like on the first 90 degree day of the spring on the week before the “official start of summer” this Memorial Day weekend, the possible was achieved. For the fences that were supposed to deter people from going on the shore that were there for their safety were torn apart and beach combers made do with what little space on the sand there was.

The beachcomber rebellion was most glaringly apparent by B 91 street where the temporary summer shut down of the beach began. Two large stop signs were pried off and fencing was cut off to prevent access to the citizenry for their safety.

The red flags, normally a symbol of warning and emergency were reduced to being only a suggestion. The fence on this blockade was shredded so hastily and so bad that people had to duck to enter and exit the staircase. Making the inevitability of cutting your head open as much a threat as the inevitability of drowning.

Another entrance that was left open had about a seven foot drop to the ground

Heading down the ramp towards the perilously eroded shore was a sight to behold as people made do and set up their places with what little sandy real estate they can find under the omnipresent cranes and some plows left behind for the continuing reconstruction of the shore to save the peninsula from being submerged.

New sea wall dunes that are being constructed, which were about 10 ft. high, were actually also being used by beach combers to lay their towels down for relaxing and tanning under the sun’s rays.

But probably the biggest indicator of civil disobedience against the NYC Parks Department’s order to cancel nearly two months of summer, and also NYC Parks own insouciance and disinterest in enforcing the shutdown and concern for the safety of the public was this lunatic sight of a wedding picture being taken on one of the newly laid jetties. Which means that someone in NYC Parks or possibly NYC Council gave their approval to allow this display of gaudy exceptionalism.

Heading west on the boardwalk where other resiliency reconstruction was going down, more civil disobedience against the death of (half of) summer on Rockaway was more evident. Especially with the other new jetties as people walked and stood on the groins to enjoy the fresh salty air standing feet above the deep violent waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

While the absence of lifeguards gave people the impunity to perilously stroll on the jetty, an indicator of how difficult its going to be to stop them came when a lone NYC Parks dept cop rolled up and adamantly demanded the crowd to get off of there. Truly a disturbing sight considering how much Mayor Adams cut from the NYC Parks Dept. in the most recent city budget and the slashing of funds de Blasio did the year before (although plenty of that cash clearly when to fake open street parks).

Besides people milling about on the groins, there were more disturbing sights on what little shore there is that the Army Corps Of Engineers is using as a storage yard. Like this nuclear bomb looking object some folks decided to plant their umbrellas, tents and and chairs by.

Another odd sight was of an unaccompanied lone child sitting a top a sandy hill that was repurposed as a slide. While a corporate news correspondent was standing nearby ready to do a segment for Spectrum News NY1 only a few feet away.

Something about these sights resembles the prehistoric era scenes in 2001: A Space Odyssey, or even Land of The Lost as people sunbathe and chillax next to dinosaur like cranes. But what this actually resembles quite aptly is the dystopian wasteland landscape that New York City has devolved into from the effects of kakistocratic government incompetence from federal, state and city levels. It’s really mind blowing that when FEMA and the ACOE went to work to replenish the beaches from Far Rock to Belle Harbor, they never thought to place the groins down while they were putting thousands of tons of sand down and built the sea walls after the new concrete boardwalk was laid down only 5 years ago.

Since then and even more since my last post on the gentrification of the beach, the seawalls and the sands have been devoured by the Atlantic over the last three seasons including this one. Even on B 116th St., which was once speculated to be a major tourist and high end lux living destination, is going through another coastal resiliency replenishing as groins are finally being laid down. Although that beach is also still not closed despite all the signage and presence of cranes and boulders just feet away from the boardwalk.

Obscured by the lifeguard chair is the estimated time completion date: June 2024!

Then there’s Riis Park, which for a while was repurposed and reinvented as a consumer culture foodie and glamping destination has shut down a segment of the beach there  from the public including caging up the dilapidated landmark bathhouse for the second year in a row, finally recognizing the erosion that has been getting worse that the National Parks Department and the former Riis Park Beach Bazaar chose to ignore for years.

Despite all these receipts of how fucked the situation in the Rockaways are, the top brass at NYC Parks is still bandying about how wonderful and peachy things are with the official opening of the beaches this weekend, conveniently announcing it on the still resilient shore of the legendary Coney Island boardwalk.

With news reports and nauseating photo ops and self-aggrandizing praise by Parks officials like this is it any wonder why Rockaway Beach continues it’s steady decline and why people don’t even give a shit of what elected officials say, even when their reps in City Council and Congress are going to bat for them to keep the beaches open despite the dystopian and hazardous environs. What’s even more interesting is how are lifeguards going to handle this. They don’t even have anywhere to sit and watch out for people on the water. And if beachgoers are that defiant to hold a fucking wedding on a jetty then what makes NYC Parks think they are going to listen to them, even to get away from the deep waters.

What people like Council Person Ariola, Congressman Meeks and Senator Schumer should have done if they are worried that businesses will be lost if no one goes to the closed beaches is to get a temporary fed bailout for them as well. Or maybe ask the developers and oligarchs that run NYC and see Rockaway as a big land grab cash cow to donate a couple billion or two to get them by this summer and hope the beaches get saved for the rest of the summer if these officials were really looking out for us. Literally.

Its been 10 years since Hurricane Sandy leveled Rockaway Beach and what’s resulted in the past few years to battle the extreme effects of climate change on the beach as been an abomination. In all honesty, the damage clearly is done and FEMA and USACE took too long to fix the beaches besides doing it wrong in the first place and the city was more concerned with gentrifying the beach than fortifying it.

And keeping them open on the weekends is only going to exacerbate the situation even more and cause more land erosion which will make the Rockaway Peninsula even more vulnerable when the next major category 5 hurricane or tropical storm comes.
