To people who have visited this digital publication, it’s plainly obvious how much I focus on the conditions on the street level, whether they were decrepit or ludicrous. So maybe it’s time to focus on what makes this city a visual wonder from a more personal perspective, like NYC’s epic building skyline.
One of them is the tower marvel commonly known by people who care as the Jenga Tower in tiny high-end enclave Tribeca. Completed in 2017, the luxury residential building is quite an aesthetically freaky sight and is truly distinctive and fascinating than the hundreds of steel and glass monoliths that have sprouted in the last four years in Manhattan, notably the atmosphere violating buildings on billionaire’s row on 57th St in Midtown and the silver beanstalks and upper class warehouses that line up the east river in Long Island City, Williamsburg, Dumbo and Downtown Brooklyn.
What makes the 56 Leonard St. tower truly unique might also be it’s biggest and oddest liability, and it’s the conspicuous gap at the base of the building between by the lobby and freight entrance on Church St. This anomaly was exposed in a posting by upscale developer propaganda blog YIMBY when they sent one of their intrepid reporters to scope out the penthouses at the luxury tower in one of their photos where the only bone that was propping up the 36 story building was single column next to the lobby and another column right next to the commercial space.
Ground floor, Jenga Tower. May 2018 ( cropped/Fair Use)
While marveling at their creation while it was in development, surely the developers and designers sensed they their inspiration for their building is a game where the object is to stack sticks higher and higher on a precarious base, which usually concludes with gravity being the ultimate victor, so in addition to their rendering, they thought about putting a gargantuan bean to fill that massive disturbing gap underneath the second floor mezzanine.
In the same 3-year-old YIMBY post, many photos from visits to balconies in other condos displayed alarming cracks, which makes it a wonder what the outer masonry looked like on the ceiling of that gap in the building. But surely the bean would be able to fix that by obscuring any disturbing visible blights while optically acting as a sturdy doorstop propping up the building. But the $56,000 question is why didn’t the developers decided to put the big bean under there first before stacking their assymetrical stories 400 feet high?
While that is just a question of the tower developer’s and owner’s judgement (and bizarre lack of it) the bigger mystery is the bean itself, which was announced it was going to arrive and be installed on Halloween 2019. Passing by the stylish haphazard monolith a year later after that announcement, I found the bean still covered in what looked like the wood panels that were pried from the crate it arrived in. (Not sure if Moishe’s delivered it).
Jenga Tower, October 2020
Thinking why it’s been taking exactly a year to put this up, the perfect storm of COVID-19 came to mind, although the 6 Sq. Ft. report did say it would be installed in the spring and summer. But it looks like they started assembling it right at the fall equinox. And half the bean is still missing. Maybe it was still in Moishes truck.
Coming back one year later in 2021, the pandemic is still with us despite the power of the vaccinations. The streets are still quite deserted and lo and behold, the bean is whole but it’s still not completed after two years.
Jenga Tower And Bean, October 2021
Looks like this bean would be an ideal place the store the tower’s “residents” tax haven condos laundered money.
While it’s still covered to protect it from the elements and smudging from curious passerby, it’s blatantly noticeable to any observant eye that this mighty bean is more for load bearing than for aesthetics, as the once former vacant space is now covered and snug tightly in the tower base like a giant doorstop.
Don’t know what’s above this ground level ceiling, because it sure looks like there’s something wrong with the masonry. Maybe it’s the stress from 30+ stories of reinforced steel, glass and cement that is causing these visible cracks which were apparently sanded and caulked over.
I don’t need to be a building expert or to be obsessed with Ayn Rand’s Fountainhead to know this looks very bad…
The tower is also having tremendous difficulty trying to get this store filled too. The rent they are asking for this commercial space must be comically astronomical. It’ll be overvalued even more with that artwashing goober mirror spooning it.
What started out as an innovative skyscaper has turned into another pathetic addition to the hyper-development of tower pestilence in Manhattan to go along with all the other behemoths that have metastasized the landscape and skyline from Downtown Manhattan to the East And West Villages to Midtown South to Billionaire’s Row and to even Harlem. It’s only a matter of time when the luxurious condos and balconies hovering on the higher and highest floors start to show stress. It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of art they’ll use up there. Maybe Alexico and NKF can ask Anish to design some giant pretzel rods or twizzlers to keep those pieces steady.
On Rikers Island, an inmate was found dead from a drug overdose inside his cell, making him the 10th prisoner to perish inside one of the few facilities left after a law the city council cronies enacted and the current mayor signed decreed that the island be shut down permanently.
Also on Rikers Island, a clerical fugazi allowed a convicted burglar who was sentenced for 20 months for robbing three small businesses to run free and was found and re-detained back on his hunting grounds in Staten Island.
Again on Rikers Island, an inmate stole a corrections bus and crashed it into a prison wall after the C.O. driver left the keys in the ignition while he was processing paperwork with another C.O.
And again on Rikers Island, an inmate who was gang affiliated and convicted of murder was found dead in his cell following a transfer from the prison barge docked in the Bronx.
And again on Rikers Island, three inmates brutally beat down another inmate inside his cell because they thought he was in a rival gang.
And again on Rikers Island, an inmate saw a shitlib city council crony and threw toilet water at him from behind a glass partition.
And again in Rikers Island, three inmates ganged up on a maintenance worker and stole his watch, sneakers and smokes as one of them stuck a shiv to his side.
And again on Rikers Island, an inmate who was serving time for shooting up a speakeasy nite club in Williamsburg where he sprayed five people at their legs was found to be the hit-and run driver who ran over and killed a woman with a fancy car in Ozone Park by a catholic school and got charged with murder. So let’s decarcerate him.
And again on Rikers Island, a C.O. caught an inmate with a weapon on him while he was doing a work detail and then the convict punched him the face and broke his jaw while he tried to bring him back to a higher security level area. The inmate was arraigned for the homicide of his girlfriend.
Since the city closed facilities on the prison complex island, two of them that had medical clinics, to rush it’s eventual transfer to four tower prisons in four boroughs sans S.I. that won’t fully materialize until 2027, a fifth of the C.O.’s have been calling in sick and the remaining guards have been working triple shifts trying to prevent daily insurrections and attacks by unruly inmates. Under staffing has been so rife, inmates have taken over their duties logging prisoners on days when they go 24 hours without C.O. supervision.
What was always a common occurrence inside the prisons, gang beatdowns are even more pronounced as inmates film the ultraviolence and post them on social media sites like TikTok and also rap videos with inmates flashing cash and high end hooch. The drug trade has also raged out of control because there are not enough C.O.’s to search them.
While the Blaz deliberately stalled into visiting Rikers for weeks after being hammered with questions daily about it and by slightly acknowledging the crisis he’s been ignoring for mostly the last 4 years.., NY State senators and assembly officials were demanding to visit the prison and see the humanitarian crisis for themselves. But as is wont of the Blaz, he fabricated a hill of bullshit by citing his executive authority can only allow them to visit the prisons or any government building. But since New York government officials have the privileged right to enter any government building they want, Blaz’s dropped his pathetic obstruction and the senators and assembly people went the next day.
And what a day it was. As they all assembled at a podium in front of Rikers giant welcoming sign on the corner of Hazen St. and 19th Ave, young women elected officials one by one furiously railed about the horrid and hazardous conditions and environment during their tour of the wretched facilities. One of them even claimed she saw an inmate attempted suicide by hanging himself in his cell (although no one happened to see any impromptu gang violence or regular drug dealing when they were inside there).
Although they acknowledged the maltreatment the C.O.’s and workers at Rikers are getting from the city (but not from the recidivist violent inmates), the Corrections Dept. union leader held a rally right near them and confronted the liberal collective right after they were calling for the general release of the entire prison population. Yet the two groups found solidarity in their abject and apt criticism of current mayor de Blasio, who cowardly tried to prevent this tour from happening. Rikers workers continued to hold protests against the mayor and the crony he hired as interim Dept of Corrections commissioner to oversee the prison complex as it got worse under his feeble supervision during it’s draw down transition to tower prisons that are a half decade away, who a high brass C.O. labeled as an asshole puppet of the Blaz. The asshole puppet lived up to his reputation by proclaiming that fixing Rikers is impossible because the recurring violence behind bars is unstoppable mainly because of absent C.O.’s although depriving the prisoners of basis services. Besides losing medical services because of the loss of clinics from two recently closed facilities, inmates no longer have recreational activities or even access to the library.
As the pressure mounted following the Rikers protest, The Blaz continued to avoid Rikers and evade questions about touring the prison complex even though he was holding his recent silly city hall in your borough week in Queens, where Rikers happens to call it’s home. Following a presser teasing when he will visit, he finally went to Rikers immediately after his daily variety show press briefing that very day and evidently he made sure he avoided all the corridors where thousands of inmates were located and even avoided the C.O.’s on the floor who do the risky and bold work trying to keep the jail secure for visitors like the soft elitist mayor of NYC, while they weren’t even getting paid for the triple shifts they were induced to take. All the dilapidated conditions and human excrement were suddenly scoured clean and painted over and his crony asshole puppet commissioner had all the inmates shuttled to another intake facility that resembled a medieval goolag with the maggots and their own shit just to placate the realities of the prison the mayor only chooses to see, despite the known risk of causing a superspreader area because of the congregate setting. Another thing that made the Blaz’s Rikers tour a cakewalk was that he recently deployed 100 cops to fill work as C.O.’s to the island a few days earlier. If not for the anarchy that has overtaken the jails, this would be another misuse of city safety services the Blaz selfishly exploited with his undeserved privilege as NYC’s Mayor.
When confronted with a question about his pussy tour of Rikers and his deliberate avoidance of engaging with C.O.’s and prisoners who have to work and live under the decrepit conditions resulting from his complicit insouciance that purposely led to them, the Blaz feebly responded with the most heinous missive that he’s ever defecated out of his big faceanus:
“I don’t need to be reminded of something I already know”
Not only is this cold blooded and tone deaf statement a confirmation of his wanton arrogant avoiding of C.O.s and inmates, it’s also monstrously inhumane, being that he knows and has practically accepted what a shithole the prisons are and how the internationally renowned humanitarian crisis exacerbated under his indifference and there was a point when he decided he was going to let it rot. Surely right when he got re-elected. It’s also the Blaz’s most hilarious self-own, since that stupidly haughty statement can apply to every other issue and crisis that has turned into a bigger mountain of shit under his watch, like Vision Zero, affordable housing, and the city’s sewer system that crapped out and flooded the streets and highways of Queens, Kings and Boogie Down counties. Plus anyone can apply it to the mayor himself in casual conversation.
“Man, de Blasio is such a fucktard dickhead”
“I don’t need to be reminded of what I already know cuz”
Now that the Blaz has finally made no bones for being unaccountable for Rikers Island, it’s inmates and security because of he already knows how fucked up it is there, he continues to blame the court system for making it harder to get violent criminals off the streets that have led to rise in felonies in his city, accusing them of being too slow to process cases while discounting the city’s court buildings under his purview that are still under shoddy conditions and not safe to distance from COVID-19/Delta Variant spread. But this wouldn’t be a problem if the borough district D.A.’s weren’t dismissing thousands of criminal cases because of the 10 month old bail reform laws that has sprung over 6,500 perpetrators because of the state assembly’s re-categorizations of the severity of the crimes committed. (Or is that re-imagining). And thousands more will be released because of the humanitarian crisis the Blaz, Governor Kathy, the city council cronies, and the state and assembly fauxgressives are complicit with for their ill-written bail reform and their asinine advocacy legislation for Rikers closure, acting as useful idiots for rapacious developers chomping at the bit for all that vast real estate on the ground and in the ether. All for collective regressive effort to close Rikers Island by any means necessary is clearly having an impact on the streets and on the minds of recidivist criminals and gangbangers practically rejoicing at the decarceration culture being induced on the public from fauxgressive politicians and social media pundits as teenagers are getting shot and killed on the streets where these elites fear to tread.
While he’s telling people off for reminding him of what he already knows, he then tries to remind everyone about dubious drops in shootings from the last year in certain NYPD enclaves while blowing off how shootings have doubled and tripled in other enclaves. As the Summer of Blaz and September ended, a total of 1,384 people got shot on the streets, already passing last years total with another 3 months left in this blood stained year. And if this isn’t offensive and repulsive enough, Jizzoner’s response to all this violence and crime he has been blocking from his brain for the last two years is to hire more municipal workers to NYPD precincts to greet victims of crimes looking to file reports or citizens looking to visit friends and relatives on lockdown because of the perception of the crabby cop behind the desk who won’t help them. The twisted irony of this idiotic program is it’s coming from a motherfucker who’s been the shittiest and surliest host of NYC for 8 years; who doesn’t even deign to greet C.O.’s and prisoners after being browbeaten to by his establishment fauxgressive Democrat party peers. So instead of telling precinct desk cops to be more cordial and informative to his constituents, he spends 5.7 million dollars to put a bunch of B to do their jobs for them.
This abomination reign of de Blasio can’t decompose soon enough.

Earlier this year in March during the first anniversary of the first reported COVID case in New York City which was treated at this hospital, Andrew Cuomo was going to terminate funding to the hospital in the hopes to scale or even close it down and replace it with a “micro” hospital that was being developed around the corner. But that was fortunately kiboshed because of the investigations of the lowlife creep’s nursing home death and pandemic novel profiteering and sexual harassment scandals, the latter which forced him to resign and that was that.
There is still no update about how this apocalyptic blaze started. And Queens is still burning.

On the flip side, carjacking has seen an 80% rise, because it’s less arduous to get a cherry car with a gun than it is to search and print a bunch of phony paper plates.

In Gowanus, a homeless man was found dead in the Gowanus Canal days after the torrential downpour from the remnants of Hurricane Ida. In Little Italy, two women threw glasses at each other during an eight person rumble inside an Italian restaurant while the San Gennaro Festival was going on. The ladies kept throwing shit at each other despite the presence of mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa and his Angels.
In Kips Bay, a parolee being held in custody by the C.O.’s at Bellevue ran out of the prison ward and out into the streets where he gallivanted around Manhattan in a hospital gown and black shoes, black socks and shades for 24 hours until the cops caught him in East Harlem.
A woman ripped down every ad from a dating service company from a car on the D train because of it’s lurid repulsive content.

Also in Central Park, a man was found dead with a noose around his neck.
Again in Central Park, a big blue bird devoured a big dirty rat to the bloodlust delight of social media savvy passerby. It hasn’t been a good month for rodents after thousands of them perished from the flood waters caused by the torrential downpour of Hurricane Ida.

Also in West Brighton, two men got caught by the cops in an SUV they jacked in Tribeca.
In Stapleton, a man beat up his girlfriend inside his apartment and then cops responding to the domestic dispute call found a loaded gun and arrested him for illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm. Guess they would have let him go if the gat wasn’t there.
Also in Stapleton, a man shot another man in the knee on the street to win an argument.

In Port Richmond, a man flipping car handles on the street got lucky and found one car’s door was left open and he stole $2,000 and $120 bag of weed. The NYPD now has to report marijuana as stolen property because it’s legal, which is hilarious.
Also in Port Richmond, a man burglarized thousands of dollars worth of tools from garages, sheds and trucks and sold them on the street because he needed the money.
Again in Port Richmond, two young men carjacked a Chinese food delivery man with a BB gun that resembled a glock. The two thieves got pursued by the cops and the driver wound up hitting a man riding a bike after running two red lights while trying to get away.

At a Sanitation Dept. site, current mayor de Blasio held a publicity stunt to show what tough guy and authoritarian he thinks he is ordering the NYPD to demolished a bunch of dirtbikes, ATV’s and motorcycles with a bulldozer in a pathetic p.s.a. tweet.
The following day, an on-duty cop in full uniform rode on saddleback on one of those dirt bikes at a parade in Greenpoint.
Then a few days after that embarrassing optic, a gang of dirt bike riders and ATV drivers monopolized the streets of Williamsburg.

Colin Powell died this morning at the age of 84 from COVID-19. He was fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine(sans booster). Colin Powell had a comorbidity of multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that made the Pfizer vaccines virtually useless, given the multiple confirmed reports of the products rapidly declining efficacy in barely 6 months after inoculation.
I should mention that I’m not a doctor and I got the gist of my opinion from actual corporate news media which was brilliantly compiled in a video released on social media featuring the man behind the curtain of syringes and vaccine bottles, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who’s personal goal and prime directive is for the pandemic to keep going until his last vile breath.
The evolution of the biggest lie of the century
Don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain of syringes and vaccines https://t.co/57tZmOuYkY
There will be thousands of eulogies written by the corporate news and social media complexes about the decorated General and Secretary Of State who had two roles in invading the sovereign nation of Iraq, but his horrid testimony to the United Nations to justify Operation Iraqi Liberation (oops Freedom, make sure the intent sounds good) which led to the deaths of millions of citizens of that nation, the thousands of deaths of U.S. Soldiers and profligate waste of trillions of dollars will always be the memory that sticks out like a one hit wonder number one song.
And in light of the U.S. Government’s lunatic fight to defend the sainted vaccines from medical professional criticism and mandate resisters because of their allegations of preventing “misinformation about them after almost a year of embellishing their effectiveness, it makes Powell’s own role in gaslighting a nation even more brutally ironic.
They are called cases. And infections.
They is nothing "breakthrough" when infections after vaccinations are happening with alarming frequency
Eventually you will come around just like how people figured out the Iraq war was based on lies. That Colin Powell helped instigate. https://t.co/m9GYSltDJp
This pandemic has enabled Pfizer and also Moderna and Johnson & Johnson to too big to fail status, abutted by their militia of lobbyists and their ownership of corporate news networks and obeisant feckless elected officials in the U.S. Capitol and a recidivist greedy liar in the White House.
But given the passing of this establishment political icon from COVID-19 which already is shaking up the elites who keep telling us how awesome the vaccines are and how the Biden Administration and Mayor de Blasio are weaponizing them to coerce and extort people into getting them or they will lose their jobs and can’t engage in society in their cities, it looks like the only way the defective #COVID19 vaccines are going to be acknowledged as such and to get the mainstream attention it deserves is when an A-list celebrity or athlete dies of COVID after being double or dies from the faulty vax by itself. Just like Rock Hudson with AIDS.
Or even if one survives after contracting COVID-19 from being fully vaccinated and the outcry because of the immensity of that entertainer is too overwhelming to the predominant marketing and narrative of vaccinations, like a Beyonce or more fearsome if a rogue figure like Kanye West gets infected.
Even Big Pharma’s public relations minions will try to undermine the significance of Colin Powell’s passing from his moot vaccinations with their useful idiot accomplices in DC and mass media, the cause celebre patient zero case is already established and the protests against mandates on the city streets that are being maligned will get even bigger when more breakthrough cases begin to reach the millions as the weather gets colder, leading to congressional hearings against the vaccine monolith merchants and exposes of the bought vaccine minstrels in government.
Current mayor Bill de Blasio has found himself in quite a hot mess of his own making with his brazen misuse of his NYPD executive protection unit. Ironically the only transparency he’s ever shown while governing this city since there were exposes of the Blaz treating the NYPD EPU has his personal chauffeurs and valets under the rubric of security provision of an elected officials notably using the cops to escort his son Dante to Yale U. on various occasions and helping move his daughter Chiara out of her apartment in Sunset Park at Brooklyn, which he hilariously gaffed during his daily presser claiming he had no knowledge about the move despite that she was being ordered back home to Gracie Mansion where he and his wife have been dwelling for the last 7 years and 9 months when he fielded a fusillade of questions about his latest scandal. This is what happens when you continue to try to gaslight when you run out of gas.
"I didn't know anything about my daughter's move," @NYCMayor says of report which found that NYPD detail helped Chiara move belongings from her apt to Gracie. In the report, he told investigators he knew nothing about the move. She was moving into the same residence he lives in.
Another noteworthy thing about his Department Of Investigation report on his profligacy abuse with his NYPD detail and city resources is when he used them to accompany him on his farcical presidential campaign trail for 5 months in the spring and summer of 2019 which cost taxpayers a whopping $320,000. This corn dog he bought in Iowa in the first primary election probably cost $40,000 alone.
The Blaz treated this expose’ with self-aggrandizing self-justification during his taxpayer funded city presser by ludicrously proclaiming that his malfeasance was perfectly legal because as mayor he is a high profile target for terrorists. And by deploying his NYPD chief of “intelligence and counter-terrorism” John Miller to defend him for the entire line of questioning during his “media availability”, showing his constituents and journalists once again his whimsical use of city tax dollars and resources by using a cop again to act as his personal lawyer.
Miller repetitively pointed out how The Blaz in his position as mayor
along with his immediate family justifies the need for 24/7 protection no matter where they go because of his status as an elected official and also his immediate family requires it because of threats or even the prospect of threats by terrorists international or domestic, whether confirmed or not. But for the two years cited in the DOI’s report, the Blaz exploited this distinction by treating his NYPD EPU as his own personal Uber by having them ferry his minion staffers around town and to their residences, also denigrating these cops by having them to errands for them. The Blaz also deployed his EPU as valets and chauffeurs for his political allies and “guests” (agents of the city?) to shuttle them around town even while he wasn’t present with them, basically designating them all as extended family worthy of protection from dangers real or prefabricated.
But the main story in this way overdue scandal is actually not the Blaz, because this malfeasance is expected of him, but the man assigned to protect him, his relatives and his extended family of minions and guests of the city, and that’s Inspector Howard Redmond, chief of the mayor’s EPU unit for his entire mayoralty.
Inspector Redmond: “What’s it to ya punk”
According to the DOI report, when he was ordered to testify on the mayor’s behalf to about NYPD EPU services, he displayed hostile obtuseness and insouciance about the mayor’s wanton misuse of the unit which was used mostly for the convenience of his son Dante (who the Blaz is clearly grooming to his political heir) and even Redmond used them for himself, which he deployed the EPU cops to pick up a woman he picked up at a bar.
Redmond also dutifully covered the Blaz’s ass regarding this abuse of services and authority by refusing to give DOI his city government issue cellphones and when he did, he made sure to wipe out all correspondence data on them after he turned them in and in many instances had them “destroyed”. The last phone he willingly relinquished was a new cellphone he only had for a little over a month which was also thoroughly wiped cleaned.
When confronted about this blatant act of unaccountabilty by his NYPD EPU leader and apparent closest confidant, the Blaz had nothing but effusive praise for Inspector Redmond and continued his obtuse insouciance about his deliberate act of wrong doing protecting the current mayor’s craven exploitation of city cops for his selfish wants and needs and for his entitled family, municipal sycophants and unnamed political cronies and allies.
Even though this is another case of The Blaz being a monstrous sociopath, his statement belies a lot a truth to it, because Redmond sure is fucking devoted. Redmond exhibited extreme devotion to hizzoner after a cop in one of the vehicles in his NYPD EPU motorcade decided to drive in the wrong direction and wound up crashing into a boiler truck because Mayor Big Slow was late for a scheduled event on his itinerary (or the cop was most likely ordered to). Being that this happened around the time the Blaz initiated the city’s Vision Zero program and surely sensing blowback criticism of the rank hypocrisy of the Mayor violating his own traffic calming and enforcement policy, Redmond made sure the DMV’s report of the accident was instantly abolished from the city’s records. As is wont of the Blaz, he also abolished the incident from his delusion addled brain despite being in the EPU unit vehicle at the time of the wreck.
Before this memory holing of NYPD EPU’s reckless incompetence, one of the mayor’s vehicles transporting Blaz’s tax boondoggle wife Chirlie to some event or doing some personal errand got into accident with two civilian vehicles on the FDR Drive only weeks before but instead of vanquishing it into the abyss, this report was fabricated to make it look like the crash was entirely the fault of the first civilian driver that was in the wreck. Two lawsuits by the civilian drivers were filed against the city, nothing is known if the city won the cases or had to settle with the other driver
The Blaz’s enabling of Redmond’s recidivism of destruction of the public city records also translated into a culture of crony corruption, immoral hierarchy abuse by higher brass and rampant discrimination led by his devoted soldier and fixer. One retired cop and former EPU officer was in an incident involving another EPU supervisor who showed up drunk to work and attacked him right in front of Gracie Mansion while the Blaz and his wife were home over an issue about the staffing of the security detail. Redmond conveniently never reported the incident to internal affairs because of NYPD’s claims there was no video record of the fight in front of the heavily surveilled elected official public housing building. A Black EPU officer was relegated to working double shifts guarding Gracie Mansion in freezing conditions during the winter and wouldn’t allow him a break when nature called and claimed that White EPU officers were given plum assignments while he was relegated to escorting and protecting the Blaz’s offspring wherever they went and also was pass up for promotion for 3 years straight. Another veteran cop assigned to the EPU was subjected to xenophobic remarks about his Muslim faith by other supervisors and was relegated to working shitty shifts and subjected to demotion. Two more EPU cops complained they were subjected to ageist and bigoted remarks that led to shit assignments. This culture fomented by Redmond’s unchecked power has led to nearly $20,000,000 in lawsuits against the city.
Current Mayor de Blasio thinks all this malfeasance along with his haughty sense of entitlement is not a big deal and is only standard procedure to protect officials like him, as he continues to administer contempt for the free press who asks him how he doesn’t see the brazen impropriety of his actions, which even has been chastised by former indicted and incarcerated high ranking police official Bernie Kerik, who also exploited the security rubric for his own benefit and convenience. But this heinous abuse of power by Blaz and Redmond belies the continuing dark trend of government secrecy in the name of government security. Redmond’s arrogant defiance of the DOI investigation was made possible because of this and his enabled rogue actions and elevation of his position and power resemble more like internecine tactics of federal government intelligence agencies than that of a local police force like the NYPD. No wonder the Blaz brought out John Miller to literally exonerate him and Redmond of their exploitation of the EPU officers, because Miller previously did public relations for the FBI before the Blaz suddenly hired him to be his “Intelligence and Counterterror Chief” for the NYPD after he won the election in 2013, a bureaucratic position that sounds entirely and presciently made up for this in plain sight coverup. Miller’s career resume also shows him transitions from corporate news and high brass executive city police positions for 3 decades, showing that Miller has acquired a certain set of skills throughout his career to put favorable spins on questionable policing and governmental policy decisions.
With less than 3 months to go in the Blaz’s abominable reign as mayor, Howard Redmond still seems untouchable after this, he could just say he was following orders after all, which he was, especially given the Blaz’s own contempt for transparency with his recidivist redacting of his city planning programs for parks, health and infrastructure hazards at NYCHA buildings and his segregation derived “affordable housing” program. Redmond’s defensive protectionist tactics against accountability at the service of de Blasio is just and apparently always has been the natural order of things as this way belated DOI report confirms. This corruption is so established that the Blaz doesn’t need to even try to fire DOI commissioner Margaret Garnett like he did to the last one.
Even though Inspector Howard Redmond has been exposed as a power tripping, unaccountable elitist, political loyalist, scumbag dirty ass cop it’s dubious this guy is ever going to get indicted or even resign since his case as been sent to Manhattan D.A. Cy Vance, who couldn’t even indict de Blasio for using his 501 C 4 Campaign for One New York as a slush fund inside City Hall and giving favored lobbyists and donors with city contracts access to policy making decisions. The best Cy could do is proclaim that the Blaz broke “the spirit of the law” and then let the unindicted mayor walk and run for mayor, getting re-elected with less than 10% of registered voters and continue running the city into the ground to this day. So the hopeful chance that Redmond will be going to Rikers is pretty much nil (would have love to see the decarceral cult demand his release).
The day before the DOI investigation of the Blaz’s police escort joyride service came out, news came out that he and his tax boondoggle wife were renovating one of their houses in Park Slope where they also misused the EPU to do recon checks of their high valued properties. So even in the face of DOI’s repot and their demand to reimburse the 320 large that was frivolously spent, Blaz and Chirlie still have tons of money to give their three story house a make over, presumably to flip it for more cash for the Blaz’s run for governor. Maybe this is how he plans to pay back the city for his and also Chirlie’s gross abuse of their NYPD security and maybe the 300,000 clams he owes the white shoe law firm the Blaz hired to defend him in his pay to play corruption trial that devastatingly never materialized.
At least now the Blaz and his trusty blackguard Redmond will have to ride alone together and the EPU will have to now have to find other things to do to pass the time. I hear there’s more guns on the streets, maybe redeploying these officers to stop daily rampant shootings will be more resourceful than shlepping around Dante de Blasio in the tri state area.
A vacant two-story building went up in flames in South Richmond Hill on Wednesday, Sept. 29 night.
The fire began at the back of house, which is located at 105-04 133 St., at about 10:48 p.m. and quickly became a two-alarm fire, according to FDNY officials.
The first arriving units encountered heavy fire, and were hampered by a heavy clutter, smoke and fire conditions throughout the house.
A nearby resident said it wasn’t the first time there was a fire at the location, saying there was another fire there “a few years” ago.
Najari Sigh, another nearby resident, said the conditions of the vacant house “are basically unlivable.”
Another resident at the scene was screaming at an alleged squatter to “get out of the neighborhood.”
The Department of Buildings made sure to put a full vacate order notice on the house to discourage further squatting by the accelerating homeless population, which is currently pushing close to 80,000.
Safe bet even the housing insecure will give this blackened pile of crap a hard pass
A pleasant weekend evening in the borough of Queens devolved into another incident of the gun violence that is still persistently casting it’s shadow on the streets of New York City. This time the violence came to Middle Village, where a shuttered commercial property that once was home to a hardware store that went out of business 2 years ago.
In recent days, or maybe longer according to area residents complaints, the vacant property has been re-appropriated as a pop-up event space for DJ and bottle parties where high end booze is consumed in mass quantities. Basically these are glorified but unregulated nite clubs, no different than the speakeasies of the last 20’s this nation went through last century. From the looks of this place, the entrance to the event space was in the back.
Apparently, words were said or some other thing provoked the throngs gathered at the party and escalated into a brawl outside of the rear entrance of the shuttered hardware store on a residential block. Then there was a vehicle pursuit and some guy pulled out a gun and shot another man during a drive-by at an intersection by a cemetery on Juniper Valley Road and 69th St.
The local area newspaper Juniper Park Civic immediately had the scoop, naturally because it’s base is right there where the incidents occurred. The Civic also updated their tweets to include a DOB record of a violation given for a complaint over a month earlier for illegal partying in the former hardware store.
Given that this was another incident adding to the city’s continuing gun crisis and increasing rise in unabated shootings in the face of the equal rise in gun possession arrests, compounded by the fact that a building landlord would flout regulations and violations by continuing to permit illicit parties in his space, it would be wholly inconceivable if this wasn’t picked up by all the major local newspapers and news websites and even the other Queens weekly periodical newspapers.
But it was conceivable. Because despite the severity of the crimes committed and of gun violence being a daily occurrence in the five boroughs, the NY Post didn’t cover it, the NY Daily News didn’t cover it, Gothamist didn’t cover it, QNS, Queens Chronicle, Queens Post and Ridgewood Post didn’t cover it. Hardly any local Queens blog covered it (sans Queens Crap, which my ally and original Queens Crapper dutifully posted Junipers tweet immediately with a deliciously sardonic headline).
What’s off-putting is that any report of a shooting these days (and the last four years since it’s meteoric rise pre-pandemic) gets published immediately on the news web pages without even a full story of the victims and perpetrators. Here we have a police record, an on the spot account video and a man who got hit 4 times in a drive-by and with the suspect (and accomplices) still on the loose; there really shouldn’t be this much media indifference. It’s a wonder why this got shadowed, is it the neighborhood which is predominantly middle class, White and home to a sizeable populace of NYPD and FDNY, and is mostly supportive of those agencies, particularly the latter? Is there something about the status of the victim that could need protection?
Or is the NYPD being opaque for some reason. In most recent days, the NYPD has been engaging in questionable behavior regarding crimes happening in real time under their noses, like how hundreds of people ran for cover after a shots went off in Times Square that cops determined was a planter that fell during a tussle between some thugs despite an eyewitness interviewed by major news outlets who was certain it was a gun. There was also a case of a man who got stabbed by a woman during a domestic dispute at a supportive housing building and was sent to be processed for lockup and then died at a NYPD precinct of a fentanyl overdose instead of being treated at a hospital for his open wound. So even though there’s an ongoing investigation of this Juniper Valley drive by shooting, it’s a wonder why no one has been I.D.’d yet. Especially the victim. Although for the assailant, it wouldn’t be remiss to assume that all those patrons weren’t going to rat him out.
Although what did get some media attention was the commercial property. As covered by the Queens Chronicle, Council Member Robert Holden noted complaints from residents for weeks about the racket and myriad other nuisances from the corner store. But yet again the shooting was not mentioned, which is startling considering a rise in gun violence this spring and summer that have occurred at these closed small business stores which has been chronicled on the New Bad Days blotter posts this year.
But now that the focus is on the illegal misuse of commercial space for events, it’s quite noticeable given the recent frequency of shootings during these illicit party places that there isn’t a media or activist backlash to them. Or even the expected fearmongering that would blow back from them. So it should be worth noting that these modern day hiding in plain sight speakeasies falls entirely in line with the city’s economic recovery from the pandemic as conceived by the Night Mayor of NYC Ariel Palitz and the Night Parliament Office of City Nightlife to turn any vacant or unused space that’s closes at dark to vibrant leisure and party venues:
New York’s nightlife czar is pushing to create 24-hour “entertainment districts,” where it would be OK for booze to flow, bass to thump and bodies to sway around the clock.
“Everything is on the table right now,” said Ariel Palitz, who runs the city’s Office of Nightlife.
“We do know that 24-hour usage is very successful in other parts of the world. People say it might be terrible for quality of life, but in fact we found the opposite.”
The nightlife study, drafted by Palitz’s in-house team, “recommends identifying potential areas with low residential density where a limited 24-hour program might be tested, allowing late-night activity to operate free from nuisance complaints or other conflicts.”
She pointed to Times Square as having the obvious potential for all-night carousing.
“Watching Times Square come to a standstill during the pandemic was heartbreaking,” Palitz told The Post.
And also residential areas like Middle Village.
And there is the P word again. The current mayor, the obeisant shitlib council cronies and the real estate lobby proxy Economic Development Corporation and Hospitality industrial complex patsy Andrew Rigie have been repetitiously citing the pandemic to bring back all the vibrancy and culture that was lost in the last few years to COVID and the Delta Variant that they were willing to throw all regulations and community input into the garbage in the name of re-imagining New York City by filling the streets with shanties for restaurants to recover all their losses, so why not have the Department of Buildings look the other way, make feckless investigations or even take some bribes to overlook some wild parties going on in abandoned stores all over the five boroughs to fulfill the Blaz’s recovery for all of us agenda as his NYPD will do an obligatory drive by and cruise along if no one in sight is getting harmed. Of course there’s that vaccine mandate, so I’m sure people are getting their vax cards checked right?
And there are a LOT of zombie small business stores out there ripe for re-imagining.
To paraphrase my ally Queens Crapper droll and apt take on this shooting, what’s going on now is a culture of insouciance in all agencies involved. They seem to be more motivated to mitigating the violence and illegal use than putting an actual halt to it and it’s all tied to the city’s desperation to revive itself as a wider leisure and cultural destination beyond Manhattan and to also try to keep up with (and surpass) other famous party town destinations like New Orleans and Miami and cultural capitals like Paris and Amsterdam. And trying to do this as COVID cases continue to remain steady and guns keep coming to the town.
And since these party places aren’t regulated and continue to pop up regulary, guns and COVID are still going to be a disruptive presence on the citizenry and the revelers of course. Then the agencies involved will surely continue re-imagining that nothing unusual, dangerous or contagious is going on.
New Bad Update:
A few nights after the Queens Chronicle article about the community’s complaints about the closed business cum pop up nite club, another illicit party went on with total impunity.
