New Bad Days 25: Cop Shot To Death Inside NYPD Command Post In The Bronx

In Fordham Heights at 12:30 a.m at a NYPD command post stationed on the block, Officer Miosotis Familia was shot and killed from point blank range when career criminal Alexander Bonds pointed his gun at the window. Bonds was eventually killed after he tried to flee and raised his weapon to police that surrounded him.

Officer Familia was a nurse and worked for the Red Cross prior to joining the NYPD and has been serving the public for 12 years in her position.

Since the incident, a facebook post from the killer has appeared that has him claiming to get back at police for suffering abuse at prisons and various reports of endemic corruption reported about at jails and selective justice favoring excessive force committed by cops that made national news. But this might not be so simple. Usually when a command post vehicle is set up, it’s to provide a presence to repress drug dealing.

Eyewitness accounts have said that the shooter was hanging on a street corner in the early evening with a group of people around 7:30 p.m.

It’s only a day after this horrendous murder but something about this not only resembles the killing of two cops on their break 3 years ago by a crazed vigilante, but also of the killing of rookie Officer Edward Byrne when he was assigned to a heavy drug dealing area in South Ozone Park. Much of Banks’ convictions involve his long career in the drug trade.

The NYPD immediately determined this as an unprovoked attack as it certainly is. But it possibly might have been ordered.

Recent articles on the killer of Officer Familia has revealed that he was prescribed anti-psychotic and anti-depressant medications and that he was released from St. Barnabas Hospital after undergoing a psychiatric exam. From this it looks like he was not in his right mind the night of and weeks before he committed the heinous murder. Now all that is left to figure out is where he got the stolen gun or if someone gave it to him.

Although it’s hard not to figure out another expensive failure of the De Faustio administration and their half-ass handling of the city’s mental health system.

In Crotona, gunfire erupted on a street at crowds of people leaving a nearby park having a weekend cookout hitting a man in the head and a woman in the knee.

3 fires occurred in apartment buildings in 3 neighborhoods. In Claremont Village, a fire broke out on the 10th floor of a 20 story apartment building. In Hunts Point, a fire broke out on a 5 story building injuring 10 people. And in Melrose, a fire engulfed an apartment building leaving tenants homeless. The building’s fire detectors never sounded according to residents. The landlord adamantly claimed that every apt. had a fire extinguisher and the building was equipped with a sprinkler system.

In Bensonhurst, a man attempted to rob a gun store by spraying pepper spray at the owner who then took out his piece and shot at him.

In Bed-Stuy, a woman was stabbed to death by her husband inside her apartment.

On the F train at 4:30 p.m. at the Bergen St. station in Downtown Brooklyn, a commuter blocking the door by leaning against it was punched in the face and repeatedly assaulted by a man who fled when the train pulled to next stop.

In Park Slope at 7:30 p.m., a woman was assaulted by a man when she tried to break up a fight he had with someone else. A 19 year old man was punched in the face by another man and 2 bikes were stolen that were locked to poles.

In Brooklyn Heights at 2:00 a.m., a man got attacked with punches in his face when he refused to give the culprit a cigarette earlier and a woman had her purse snatched while picnicking in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

At the Carroll St. station in Carrol Gardens, a 61 year old man was stalked, threatened with a gun and beaten down by a man after he refused to give him his bag.

In Prospect Heights, a man without a shirt walked into a church and sat down next to a nun and denounced her faith and threatened her life.

At the East River Park by 6th st. in the East Village, a dead body was found floating in the water

At Morningside Park in Harlem during a BBQ party attended by hundreds of people, after someone yelled “It’s about to get lit” gunfire broke out and caused everyone to flee. (update from NBD 24)

In the East Village, an 87 year old man was killed crossing the street when a taxi hit him at 9 p.m. The area where the incident occurred has undergone an elaborate street design change.

In Noho,  a construction worker was critically injured when an elevator he was working on fell on him.

Staten Island

In New Brighton, two teenagers threatened cops and threw fireworks at a police car patrolling the block, damaging it.

As predicted at the blog CleanUp Jamaica Queens Now, in Jamaica at 3:30 a.m., a triple shooting broke out at a BBQ cookout on the 4th of July, killing a mother of 2 kids and a man.

At Rikers Island, a prisoner serving time for murder stole pepper spray off a security guard and used it to attack other inmates.

In South Richmond Hill, 2 men are still on the loose after committing an armed robbery at a store on Liberty Ave.

For Officer Familia, thanks for your service

Is This Now America?

To paraphrase Charlie Brown, today is independence day and I don’t feel like celebrating, I don’t feel like I am supposed to feel (maybe like this eagle) And it’s because of certain incidents involving the oppression by elected officials against the citizenry’s attempts to freely assemble and express themselves.

Like the row in Washington D.C. shortly before the recent failure to steal health care away from millions to cover grotesque and lunatic tax cuts for the nation’s wealthiest fuckers. This may arguably be the lowest and heinously arbitrary use of cops ever used against a protest. All that pussy Senator McConnell-Chao could have done was meet with them to avoid this travesty. They were all crippled and blind, what harm could they have possibly done to the senator majority leader? Instead they were carried out like sacks of meat because of his cowardice and arrogance.

It’s quite something else that it’s come down to the infirm to bring awareness and persuade these lawmakers to consider the needs of the people that elected and did not elect them but still pay their bloated salaries (which considering their own personal fortunes they do not deserve) and their own health care provided to them by the government.

This flagrant denial of their civil and constitutional rights to assemble in the halls of the Senate, for that is the property of the people, is a real time signal and symbol of the horrifying state of the nation under Figurehead Trump and his billionaire cabinet and oligarch constituency, whom don’t have enough treasure from all the favored legislation they have received in the past almost 40 years (even under Clinton and Obama). Fortunately, this new version of the Expendable American Health Care Act, the Better Care Reconciliation Act (reconciliation???) got shut down before the weekend and their summer vacations, so the nation’s middle class, working poor, these brave handicapped protesters and even the 24 million still uninsured have a few months to breath easy then chew their nails has the autumn draws near.

Last week on the Lower East Side, Mayor De Blasio Faustio held a town hall meeting as part of his Kabuki theater of the absurd borough tour and got super creative to control the narrative, content and atmosphere.

As the constituency was proceeding to go inside the building, a man working security was stopping people from bringing in pamphlets that were very critical of the district’s councilwoman Margaret Chin’s apparent subservience to the REBNY guild and the out of scale development going on by the Manhattan bridge with the building of 2 massive luxury towers. In a ruse to show fairness for this mild form of passive aggressive oppression, other minions from the security team confiscated pamphlets of information/propaganda belonging to the councilwoman as if not to arouse suspicion. Which failed when it was discovered that the guard was actually an off duty cop.

The primary opponent, Aaron Foldenauer, immediately filed a complaint against the city for this new travesty. De Faustio, despite being hyped as running unopposed in the primary, is clearly panicking as is the awful lapdog councilwoman, who probably got intimidated by the turnout and have a sense that a lot of people are on to them and their fauxgressive agenda. If this diabolical scheme to oppress themselves wasn’t enough to expose their bland version of fascism.

If by divine intervention, meaning the citizens of NYC wake up, show up to the polls and primary De Faustio in September (man we’re running out of time), he can take his fat yoga ass to Wisconsin where free speech has become privileged for the one at the podium or with the mic.

Meet Assemblyman Jesse Kremer, of Madison, Wisconsin. He had just crafted a bill that became law that is supposed to protect free speech on college campuses. This might have been inspired for the recent outbreaks of misguided students yelling about their disdain for certain speakers of political standings and also the soft fascism of student council groups to rearrange terminologies for sensitivities of minority or physically disabled students. Or more likely this is blowback.

Anyway, there are few BIG problems with this. One is that if students don’t agree with the speaker and if they yell vulgarities or chant slogans, it is still freedom of speech and expression, no matter if you don’t like it, with the exception of yelling fire when there is none. Two, the penalties are harsh and devastatingly life altering, leading to long suspensions and expulsions. Despite it’s ratification, this is going to lead to lawsuits that will quickly head to the Supreme Court. Although that might be why the Christian Extremist Republican Elected Junta pushed Gorsuch’s nomination. And these jerks are worried about Sharia Law?

And three, this imbecile who pushed this bill thinks our planet is 6000 years old.

Besides his stupid belief in the age of the planet, this will cause problems for the young conservative thinkers too if liberal faculties decide to cite this to keep their favorite pundits or politicians from addressing student bodies. But these jackasses never think ahead, they only want to enforce and suppress while the law is still young so they can control the narrative and to use reinforcements when they desire.

This is a scary time in the short time of the Trump Administration, for it’s existence is causing deleterious effects in certain people in powerful positions and their addictive zeal for absolute control. Or maybe like Trump, it’s just a twisted thrill to fuck with people, especially in Senator McConnell-Chao’s case. Their actions are true treason and they must be stopped with extreme prejudice.

The country has to be taken back from these stupid fascist assholes.

As for the Caricature In Chief and his recent social media statement and ultraviolent fantasy of clamping down on journalism, a reminder:

Austin 3:16 kicked your ass. America 3:16 will send your ass to oblivion.

The Grenfell Tower In London: Gentrification’s 9/11

Kensington And Chelsea, London, England, United Kingdom

The Grenfell Tower’s torching was absolutely and undoubtedly preventable. The tenants there have been complaining for years about it’s negligence, even with an excellent and thoroughly detailed community blog about the terrible building managers and the willful indifference of city and parliamentary officials.

This horrific disaster was brought forth not only by the cause of the fire, which allegedly was sparked by a malfunctioning refrigerator that had plastic coils, but how it accelerated so fast in the first place. It was caused by the “cladding” encompassing the entirety of the building, supposedly to be used as protection from rain but the popular opinion is that it was used more for decorative purposes to gussy up the area to mesh with recent looming luxury tower development and recently installed fancy public spaces. This cladding is actually banned to use here in America, yet paradoxically this nation has industries that make it and sell it for import where there is little to no regulation, the same with the crappy plastic coiled fridge that ignited the fire.

It’s also more for the actions from those responsible for it’s upkeep and the deeply hidden but naked contempt for it’s residents, made up of working class poor people, recent Syrian refugees and those of modest means.

The NYC DOB and the 100 worst landlords have nothing on the Tories. For it was their rigid ideological conservative thinking that led to the homelessness and deaths of the residents of that building from the majority ruling shutting down of the Labour Party bill to provide safety measures that was actually called the “Homes Fit For Human Habitation”, for the reason described as the culture of safety. And for good measure, the majority of those upper class twit MP’s happen to own and rent properties for habitation themselves.

And it the borough council’s hoarding of 274 million pounds meant for the building’s upkeep and safety, the latter which was legally blown off by officials and exacerbated by gruesome government cutting, seems inspired from the grotesque money managing of NYCHA. Since Grenfell did not even have a sprinkler system installed in the building and apparently was bereft of fire extinguishers. The insane thing is that the RBKC and the KCTMO board had decided that cosmetic improvements were more important than emergency preparedness, as the cladding cost 11 million pounds to install.

The victims of what is being called corporate manslaughter were told to stay in their apts. by phone operators during the inferno. Reportedly most of the advisory signs in the building also suggested that tenants remain inside too if that isn’t too ironically warped. For hours the building blazed people remained inside because of this advice leaving them trapped. To this date, 79 people perished and died and there are still some missing. A mural of photographs of family members and neighbors cover a fence by the charred remains.

Apparently, as is going on here in the boroughs of NYC and all over the nation’s biggest cities (even Nashville) there has been a rush of influx tower hyper-development and ambitious and haughty city planning promoting luxury living and dining, and brand vibrancy nearby the struggling project complexes. The Gentrification Industrial Complex influence and manipulation of cities apparently has no limitations. Although in Britain, it’s called “regeneration”.

And as it is in NYC and other metropolises, London also is experiencing a dwindling middle class and a widening economic gap between the rich and poor.

Days after the inferno and the horrendous protective photo ops and embarrassing video of P.M. Theresa May fleeing a church from the yelling hordes and press photographers, there was actually a report on CBS News at 11 that focused on Grenfell and the pestilence of tower development on the coasts of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn (and soon the Bronx) that wondered if it could happen here also. In the 2 minute segment fragment, they interviewed a DOB official who looked like he shit himself when he claimed that there is nothing much to worry about, which may have some truth because these new behemoths packed by the rivers don’t have the cheap cladding that ignites easily. The fire inspector they skyped with basically gave the same advice as those useless posters in Grenwell’s stairwell.

Since the devastation and destruction of the community of Grenfell, proactive though arbitrary measures were taken that led to the entire evacuation of another public housing building with the same cheap cladding and the transfer of the surviving tenants into a hotel for temporary shelter, a Holiday Inn Express (this chain does great business with the destitute even in London). Unfortunately, they all got kicked out of the hotel after a few weeks on short notice because of prior reservations and of course lack of warning and funding by the horrendous and primeval management group that destroyed their homes and livelihoods.

Not only is this Gentrification’s 911, but it’s neoliberalism’s WTC cleanup site or Iraqi Freedom, since it’s now producing collateral damage and existential dread among the displaced and disenfranchised from the massive tragedy. And like those analogies, the ones truly responsible, the elected and the appointed officials will not face any consequences or express genuine remorse, for this is how the preternatural way of progress works when it comes to shaping societies and economies in the new century. It comes to the point were Some Lives Don’t Matter when it comes to the lower and middle classes because their incomes don’t speak loud enough to be heard or to even give a fuck about, even if the people have a meticulously detailed blog about the rancid incompetence and vile indifference of the former Grenfell management group.

New Bad Days 24: The City Goes On A Decrimilization Spree Rendering Hard Drugs,Loitering And Turnstile Jumping Menial Offenses (The Last One Universally Justified) And The Presence Of Bikes Abound In A Variety Of Incidents

Dead over this. $500 dollars for this.

In Red Hook, a woman was found dead, dismembered and beheaded floating by the pier.

At John Jay High School in Park Slope around 11:30 a.m., a man with a knife stabbed a 19 year old man, bit a 17 year old boy and slashed a 42 year old man on the ear.

In Bushwick on the L train at 3:40 p.m., a commuter was threatened by 3 men, one brandishing a gun, and was pulled off the Bushwick/Aberdeen station and robbed of his cellphone.

Also in Bushwick, a three year old boy was left abandoned barefoot on the sidewalk at 5:20 a.m.

Again in Bushwick, a bike rider was hit and killed by an SUV at 3 a.m. The driver left the scene. Another bike rider was run down by a hit and run driver in a bike lane.

In Midwood, two disgusting women went into a drug store and opened up a package of baby wipes and starting cleaning themselves in the aisle and beat up a worker who went to confront them.

In Crown Heights, a bus popularized on social media was torched.

And now to go along with last years decriminalizing of at times excessive charges of pot smoking or possession, public imbibing and peeing on the streets, D.A. Cy Vance has decided to cut some slack on the abusers of society’s destructive vices with the lessening of charges for possession and usage of heroin and painkillers, crack and cocaine and also for jumping the turnstile and the old pastime of loitering. As I stated in the headline, train fare evasion, in light of recent events involving the fucking MTA and the persistent shitty and now life endangering service they are providing, it is not worth paying $2.75 to ride daily under the proclaimed state of emergency condition it’s in. But everything else might be overkill and could be a way to find a reason to shut down Rikers if nobody is going to charged for anything. Sounds conspiratorial but these decriminalzations are looking like a ploy to get the new jails built now. Especially with one being shockingly considered in tony Beorum Hill.

The hysterical thing about the master plan to shut down Rikers is that De Faustio may have reservations about it. As shown when he was confronted by an activist in his peculiar workout gear.

Although this looks like a reason to rejoice in thinking that cops will be busy getting the murderers and the robbers off the streets, it is not going to end the cause of the crimes, for a lot of these incidents involve the trafficking and abuse of the drugs now being treated less seriously. And addicts of course will resort to anything to get a fix, which historically involves thievery.

And of course that these drugs, idiotically including marijuana are federal contraband and are pursued with absolute zeal by agents and prosecuted nationally with zero tolerance.

The X factor of how this social experiment might not mostly have the desired positive results is that a lot of people take advantage and short cuts to get what they want, especially in this overtly cynical political state were in today and going by Nietzsche’s view of mankind. If there is an analogy here, take the NYPD’s abuse of stop and frisk and how that went awry and how much it has cost the city because of wrongful arrests and the national interest in the incarceration and death of Kalief Browder, which is how this all got started. It’s not hard to imagine what society will look like if the shoe is on the foot of the ones that will take advantage now.

Certainly repeat offending will not tamper down with all this leeway and it might lead to a worse and more arbitrary and oppressive version of “broken windows” policing.

The big problem is that there has to be repression of obnoxious, repellent behavior and respect for the rule of law, and this all hinges on the public and the hopes that they will be moderate and discreet of their vices and refrain from recidivism and habit and of course respect the men and women in blue who are being ordered to let them be.

And with the economic disparity going on this town, the rise in hedonism going on in trendy gentrified areas and of course the wanton civic abuse going on in city hall, it’s not looking so rosy. Or even vibrant.

Let’s not overlook loitering. It’s going to make street corners more menacing again, and also all those long vacant shuttered storefronts, building plazas and town parks after dark occupied with newly minted street scum.

Which will be capital for monetary exchanges for goods and services for their opioid needs.

Our legislative officials better tread lightly from here. Judging by the Mayor’s petulance, it looks like they don’t really know the shitshow they started.

Are you ready for the summer?
