In Fordham Heights at 12:30 a.m at a NYPD command post stationed on the block, Officer Miosotis Familia was shot and killed from point blank range when career criminal Alexander Bonds pointed his gun at the window. Bonds was eventually killed after he tried to flee and raised his weapon to police that surrounded him.

Officer Familia was a nurse and worked for the Red Cross prior to joining the NYPD and has been serving the public for 12 years in her position.

Since the incident, a facebook post from the killer has appeared that has him claiming to get back at police for suffering abuse at prisons and various reports of endemic corruption reported about at jails and selective justice favoring excessive force committed by cops that made national news. But this might not be so simple. Usually when a command post vehicle is set up, it’s to provide a presence to repress drug dealing.

Eyewitness accounts have said that the shooter was hanging on a street corner in the early evening with a group of people around 7:30 p.m.

It’s only a day after this horrendous murder but something about this not only resembles the killing of two cops on their break 3 years ago by a crazed vigilante, but also of the killing of rookie Officer Edward Byrne when he was assigned to a heavy drug dealing area in South Ozone Park. Much of Banks’ convictions involve his long career in the drug trade.

The NYPD immediately determined this as an unprovoked attack as it certainly is. But it possibly might have been ordered.

Update

Recent articles on the killer of Officer Familia has revealed that he was prescribed anti-psychotic and anti-depressant medications and that he was released from St. Barnabas Hospital after undergoing a psychiatric exam. From this it looks like he was not in his right mind the night of and weeks before he committed the heinous murder. Now all that is left to figure out is where he got the stolen gun or if someone gave it to him.

Although it’s hard not to figure out another expensive failure of the De Faustio administration and their half-ass handling of the city’s mental health system.

In Crotona, gunfire erupted on a street at crowds of people leaving a nearby park having a weekend cookout hitting a man in the head and a woman in the knee.

3 fires occurred in apartment buildings in 3 neighborhoods. In Claremont Village, a fire broke out on the 10th floor of a 20 story apartment building. In Hunts Point, a fire broke out on a 5 story building injuring 10 people. And in Melrose, a fire engulfed an apartment building leaving tenants homeless. The building’s fire detectors never sounded according to residents. The landlord adamantly claimed that every apt. had a fire extinguisher and the building was equipped with a sprinkler system.

Brooklyn

In Bensonhurst, a man attempted to rob a gun store by spraying pepper spray at the owner who then took out his piece and shot at him.

In Bed-Stuy, a woman was stabbed to death by her husband inside her apartment.

On the F train at 4:30 p.m. at the Bergen St. station in Downtown Brooklyn, a commuter blocking the door by leaning against it was punched in the face and repeatedly assaulted by a man who fled when the train pulled to next stop.

In Park Slope at 7:30 p.m., a woman was assaulted by a man when she tried to break up a fight he had with someone else. A 19 year old man was punched in the face by another man and 2 bikes were stolen that were locked to poles.

In Brooklyn Heights at 2:00 a.m., a man got attacked with punches in his face when he refused to give the culprit a cigarette earlier and a woman had her purse snatched while picnicking in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

At the Carroll St. station in Carrol Gardens, a 61 year old man was stalked, threatened with a gun and beaten down by a man after he refused to give him his bag.

In Prospect Heights, a man without a shirt walked into a church and sat down next to a nun and denounced her faith and threatened her life.

Manhattan

At the East River Park by 6th st. in the East Village, a dead body was found floating in the water

At Morningside Park in Harlem during a BBQ party attended by hundreds of people, after someone yelled “It’s about to get lit” gunfire broke out and caused everyone to flee. (update from NBD 24)

In the East Village, an 87 year old man was killed crossing the street when a taxi hit him at 9 p.m. The area where the incident occurred has undergone an elaborate street design change.

In Noho,  a construction worker was critically injured when an elevator he was working on fell on him.

Staten Island

In New Brighton, two teenagers threatened cops and threw fireworks at a police car patrolling the block, damaging it.

Queens

As predicted at the blog CleanUp Jamaica Queens Now, in Jamaica at 3:30 a.m., a triple shooting broke out at a BBQ cookout on the 4th of July, killing a mother of 2 kids and a man.

At Rikers Island, a prisoner serving time for murder stole pepper spray off a security guard and used it to attack other inmates.

In South Richmond Hill, 2 men are still on the loose after committing an armed robbery at a store on Liberty Ave.

For Officer Familia, thanks for your service
