Current Mayor de Blasio: non-plussed, uninvolved, disinterested

Manhattan

In Times Square, eight men ran an 24/7 crack distribution ring on a street corner making over 10 g’s a week in the biggest tourist attraction in the world in the past year. Ain’t no stopping New York City!!

Also in Times Square, a bunch of kids got corralled by cops who caught them cutting off cars while doing reckless stunts on their bicycles.

Again in Times Square, a woman tried to push a man onto the tracks from the N/Q/R platform. Cops caught her at the Herald Square Station. The woman had six priors for assault in the last month, all of them she committed on the subway.

And again in Times Square, a man shot four times at someone on the street and a stray bullet hit the TKTS booth and seating area. Two men that were accompanying him got into an SUV and sped off as the gunman ran away.

And again in Times Square, a homeless man punched a man in the face on the sidewalk and then tried to continue his attack but the other man fought him off. Cops patrolling the area (there are 100’s of them) detained the kook but he resisted arrested and tried to spin his way out of the grips of three cops but fell hard on his ass on the pavement. The cantankerous derelict also randomly assaulted a man three months earlier on the Upper West Side for walking past him after getting out of his car.

And again in Times Square at the 42nd St. Station, a man mumbling to himself on the Q train got up from his seat and then randomly spat, then punched and slashed a man in the face.

And again in Times Square, a man got into an argument with two other men and got shot in the le…oh wait they got into a tussle that caused a planter to fall which panicked hundreds of people and cause them all to flee the area and dozens of cops and higher brass NYPD to flood the zone to arrest at least one perp. The man wound up wounded when a pedicab ran over his ankle and wound up arrested for weed possession, even though carrying an oz of weed is legal.

There was no shooting there at all. Nope, no shooting at all, and if you continue to question this blatant discrepancy you are a conspiracy theorist. Despite witness testimony on social media that it was definitely a shooting. All that matters is to ensure people with a semblance and the optics of safety, which the current mayor of New York City finds wholly and despairingly acceptable.

In Midtown, three thieves accessed an apartment being used as an airbnb by three women and robbed all their cellphones and wallets.

Also in Midtown, a man hassled then slapped a woman in the face on a street corner.

Then she ran away down the stairs and into the neighboring building and banged on residents doors to get help and wound up dying on a stairwell after bleeding out leaving a crimson trail in both buildings. The staircase in the first building has been regularly used as a sanctuary for homeless people as a safer alternative than sleeping on the streets and in one of current mayor Bill de Blasio’s dangerous and carceral influenced homeless shelters.

Also in East Harlem, a man tied another man up to a lamp post with duct tape and smacked him around as passerby gawked and taunted him thinking that he was caught in the act trying to rob somebody . After the perpetrator smacked him again when an NYPD vehicle rolled by, cops came out and brandished their guns as if they were about to arrest them, but it turned out it was just a gag video being produced for their social media account. The cops then laughed and moved along.

Again in East Harlem at the 125th St. Station, a man stabbed another man in the head as he was entering the 6 train following a dispute on the platform.

And again in East Harlem, a man got shot in the torso on the grounds of the Wagner Houses.

The two cops on foot patrol don’t bother give chase and the other two cops don’t even move from their vehicle or even use it to pursue the fleeing gang.

The four cops were ultimately suspended for their insouciance, but it’s possible that they are only following orders because the city can’t put anymore criminals on Rikers Island because we are trying to close it down for our real estate developer overlords.

And again in Harlem, a man ran towards a parked car and shot a man to death who sitting in the drivers seat. The killer is still on the loose.

Commuters witnessing the arrest filmed the cop on their cellies, which infuriated the cop and used his authority to intimidate them from documenting the arrest and ticketed a woman filming it. Then the cop confronted two men walking away from the incident on the street and then he grabbed one of them and threw him down to the concrete and stole his cellphone. The cops has cost city taxpayers nearly $300,000 for prior abuses of the badge from excessive force lawsuits against the city.

Also in the Lower East Side, tenants at the Wald Houses were throwing their trash out of their windows, where they landed on the ledge by a woman’s apartment, causing a colony rat infestation an olfactory hazard. When Monica Morales showed up to report it, NYCHA cleaned it up the next day, showing once again she’s doing Bart Shwartz’s six figure earning monitor job for free.

Again in the Lower East Side, a homeless man stabbed another man in the chest to win an argument at a park nearby a luxury housing tower.

Again in the East Village, a man chased another man down the street while holding a gun and then h

Again in the East Village, cops caught a stupid hipster from another state an apartment he shares with another hipster for spray painting his lame graffiti tags on the E, C, and 1 trains at stations in Forest Hills, Harlem and Washington and an advertisement poster in Times Square and had a good cry during processing.

Also in Union Square, a man walloped another man in the head with a hammer and caused the victim to fall onto the tracks on the N/R transit line. The the lunatic snatched a chain off a young man at the 125th Station in Harlem and then threatened to whack with his hammer. The man then went across town and randomly kicked a man in the face near an upscale restaurant and rooftop concert venue. Cops caught the disturbed man breaking car and store windows in Chelsea a few days later.

The mentally ill man continued his rampage against humankind in Chelsea, where he found a hammer and smashed car windows and a few restaurant windows until the cops caught up with him and collared him.

The man was an Iraq War veteran who suffered from mental illness most of his life, which exacerbated after he finished his service with the Army and wound up in a VA hospital and wandering the streets. Where is fucking THRIVE? Oh yeah, this service is too sophisticated to handle cases where mentally and emotionally disturbed people are prone to violence and besides the human tax boondoggle Chirlie’s Wilhelm’s husband says that attacks from these mentally ill people don’t happen that much and they shouldn’t be subjected to stereotypes.

Also in the Financial District, two gangbangers murdered a hooker in their airbnb rented apartment and stuffed her corpse in a 55 gallon drum barrel and ditched her in Jersey. The prostitute was a frequent visitor to that building.

In terms of the budgetary costs of current Mayor de Blasio’s tax boondoggle wife’s phantom mental health program THRIVE correlating with the legacy of this man’s reign of street terror, about 0 dollars out of the 1.25 billion dollars went to help this lunatic.

Because of the embarrassing media attention, de Blasio’s DHS managed to get the man a room in order to hide him from society for awhile. Maybe he’ll get vaccinated and get the Key to NYC which will open up the city to resume his mayhem on the streets.

A man rode his e-powered uniwheel on the FDR Drive. He was going about 35 mph. This toy really needs to be off the streets.

Every numbered subway line and the L Train were knocked out of service when a power outage occurred that was sourced from the Rail Control Tower in Hell’s Kitchen, which caused two subway trains in the Harlem River Tunnel to stall, leading to an evacuation of over 100 commuters who had to walk towards the next destinations. The transit faux pas was caused by a single on/off switch (or button) that was tripped by a MTA worker because there wasn’t a protective cap on it. Which means that worst transit system of the universe can be sabotaged and rendered inoperable by somebody accidentally hit a button with his/her ass. An issue that can easily solve by buying a bottle of tropical fantasy cola at a nearby bodega on 10th Ave for 50 cents.

Queens Is Burning And Submerging And Even More Housing Insecure

The gang’s all here

Ozone Park, Woodside, Queens, New York, America

The last month of summer has begun with more tragedy, loss and displacement, mostly from the elements and the usual case of government insouciance and negligence. As it has been happening regularly in the forgotten “world’s borough” of Queens, fire again has senselessly took a life and disenfranchised families from their home. In the middle and working class town of Ozone Park, a family of three living in a basement converted apartment awoke in the middle of the night when an e-battery from a motor scooter that was being charged by their door exploded and were trapped by a wall of flame.

The converted apartment was inside the garage, the door was the only egress the family had to escape. The couple’s 9-year-old son died from his burns from the blaze. The family just moved into the house and were only living there for 12 hours. Fourteen other people living the house got injured and were forced to vacate, adding to the city’s continuing rise of homelessness.

The father works as a food delivery man, most of them don’t make enough to rent a market rate apartment or qualify for the city’s affordable housing program with buildings that cater over 70% of the apts to the upper class.

A year ago and most recently in May, current mayor de Blasio’s HPD department were in the process of legalizing basement apartments in order to address the perpetual housing crisis that was exacerbated by HPD’s housing program coinciding with the advancing speculation of the rental and housing market. The fire in Ozone Park suddenly brought up an argument against them, but the controversy suddenly exploded when Hurricane Ida came north to vomit a record amount of inches of water in hours.

10 inches of rain cause biblical floods on the streets, turning buses into arks on Queens Blvd and one subway station into a scene from The Shining. But the rain did it’s real and ultimately fatal damage to the city’s basement apartment tenants.

The first reported casualty was in Hollis Queens, a woman and her son perished as the storm crashed through the house’s foundation and instantly killing both.

https://pix11.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/25/2021/09/ida-nyc-flooding-queens-jamaica.jpg

The street where they lived is on a steep incline, making the block a veritable bowl to catch water in a violent storm. Although the area was incidentally going through a street drainage and sewer infrastructure upgrade at the time.

They were two of eleven casualties reported who also perished in a basement residence, all of them in the borough of Queens. A family of three died in a house next to the BQE in Woodside when water burst through their apartment and couldn’t escape, despite intervention by the NYPD. One of the casualties was a two-year-old boy. A 67-year-old man and a 87-year-old woman both drowned in cellar dwellings in Ridgewood and Elmhurst respectively. Another family of three also perished in a basement dwelling in Flushing. All of these devastating tragedies were located in designated flood zones even though they are miles away from beaches and bridges.

Across the BQE in Woodside where the home above is, Chuck Schumer, the current NYC Mayor and the district representative in DC Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez showed up with a FEMA official to survey the flood damage to residents homes basements and residents basement apartments. The trio of establishment Democrats harped on about the extreme effects of climate change and the need to combat it while touting federal funding aid to these victims of Ida’s watery violence.

Current mayor The Blaz continued to whine and blame the rain for the devastation to the residents dwellings and their personal and cherished belongings in his continuing persistence to gaslight the press and his constituents about how no one saw this downpour coming despite constant cellphone alerts by the National Weather Service and frequent updates on every local news networks meteorologists (which he has now developed a tremendous grudge against since his self and music industry serving NYC homecoming concert in Central Park got kiboshed by Hurricane Henri only a week ago).

But as Rep. AOC briefly pointed out (while running protection for the Blaz), it wasn’t entirely climate change that caused all this damage and killed 11 residents but it was purely decades of city negligence by avoiding upgrading sewer infrastructure and doing basic surface maintenance by thoroughly cleaning and clearing catch basins and removing garbage and other detritus from the streets; which have piled up immensely in middle class towns like Woodside here, Jamaica and East Elmhurst, especially in the last few years after The Blaz cut funding to the Sanitation Dept. The only politician that’s actually acknowledged that it was the city’s negligence of the sewer infrastructure that destroyed these home’s foundations, killed eleven tenants and forced more residents into the growing homeless population was city council candidate Tiffany Caban.

Of course The Blaz conveniently found a new scapegoat to blame for his insouciance and ineptitude after a year of blaming the pandemic as the perfect storm that made everything from crime going up to services being denied while he spent most of this year planning concerts and opening streets for cultural and dining for his shitlib upper class base, now he has an actual storm to deflect to for the remainder of his heinous mayoralty.

But what’s been overlooked here is that these people who died where they lived and who are now homeless because of antiquated sewer infrastructure and absent maintenance is the fact that basements were the only residences that were available to them because de Blasios Department of Housing and the developers they contracted did not build sufficient actual affordable housing for them but mostly for an upper class demographic in the city Housing New York program while making the incremental amount of the lower AMI apartments difficult and even still to pricey to qualify for.

These are just a few examples of luxury public housing in Queens nearby Woodside and Jamaica.

Elmhurst, Queens Blvd

Woodside, Queens Blvd

Woodside, Queens Blvd

Jamaica, Guy R. Brewer Blvd

Jamaica, Archer Ave., Sutphin Blvd.

These towers illustrate how the Gentrification Industrial Complex of real estate and government were dreadfully wrong that building higher and integrating luxury with equity would trickle down and provide more access for the working poor and even middle class residents of New York City, leading to reliance on illegal cellar apartments and S.R.O.’s.

Another thing Ida exposed was the desperation of homeowners trying to keep up with the costs of paying property taxes by renting out their basements as they pay three times the rate the fucking Blaz pays for his two houses in Park Slope, which gives him the luxury not to rent his own basements out. Ida not only wrought structural damages to these basements but will ensure the inevitable displacement of homeowners as well who will sell their homes at a loss, provided that the feds give them the monetary aide they need. But lets not overlook the slumlords and faceless LLC’s role in the basement apt. market, because they will be able to easily take advantage of Joe Biden’s emergency funding grants, usurping them from struggling homeowners who don’t have the free time or the financial resources and the lawyers to keep their house literally afloat unlike the portfolio of illegally converted homes they continue to get away with.

There is a easy fix to this solution for the refugee and current basement tenants of NYC, move them to all the vacant and prospective apartments in all those luxury public housing towers that got built during de Blasio’s wretched mayoralty. And then abolish the segregation driven Housing New York “affordable housing” plan and put a cap on future development unless these tall and dense building are 100% under the ludicrously high AMI set by HUD. And also the end to fucking “air rights” for these predatory developers, air rights belong to the fucking birds.

No one should have to pay rent and worry about a short in a socket, a pounding hard rain or some government agent coming to their door and wound up disenfranchised from their home. It should take climate change to fix the housing crisis when the environment on and under the ground has been shot to shit for too long. The time to build back better was decades ago. Time to rebuild and reset housing back to the people that really need it and fucking shut up with the platitudes and anecdotes, Mr. President, who doesn’t even know who the congressperson representing the town he’s having his press-oppressing photo op in. (Hey Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, how long are you going to take this shit from your fucking political party?)

Compounding all this trauma and disorder is that this city is now in the crux of a resurgent pandemic, with tenants and landlords still wondering when financial aid is going to come in. And hurricane season is not over for another month (the last hurricane Sandy slaughtered NYC in late October). As thousands of working poor and middle class people that were suddenly made homeless and are now even in more debt will grow even more despondent and dependent on the government that continues to fail them. While the all the establishment Democrat hacks will continue to sell them short with broke ass services, more hollow promises and platitudes and then blame everything on the rain.

Breaking New Bad Days: The Times Square Shooting That Wasn’t There

Image

Verified. Bonafide.

Times Square, Manhattan, New York

The tourist capital of the world had another broad daylight horror show strike when gunfire went off by the legendary Tkts plaza between Broadway and 7th Avenue, which made it the second time in only 3 days that bullets flew at that spot and the fifth time since May.

At least two twitter accounts were quick to report this latest travesty that has befallen the summer of NYC.

NYPD flooded the zone to catch the assassin but to no avail. An hour after the shooting, a reporter from NBC New York was at the crime scene and found a man surrounded and being questioned by patrol cops and high brass.

Then an hour later, the NYPD gave her the scoop and with emphasis, Ms. Hemphill was informed by cops that the shooting was in actuality a planter that fell during a scuffle between the victim and allegedly two other people he was battling on a street corner on the east side of 46th St.

Or was it a barricade that fell? But Ms. Hemphill doesn’t question why would they cite two different objects that varied from the general assumption and reaction by the plaza crowd and decides to tweet report  that way despite the obvious massive discrepancy. Two men causing a barricade to fall during a street fight at least makes sense, but a planter? Unless these two men were the Hulk and Thor, no way are they going to knock down planters since they are 100 pounds of concrete and soil. Here’s a fun fact, they act more as security cudgels against terrorists to obstruct them from weaponizing cars to kill people than as pretty smelling oxygen producers.

https://sites.middlebury.edu/hannahorcuttnyc/files/2011/01/DSC_00201.jpg

Another fun fact, when barricades and in this situation, planters hit the ground, they don’t sound like gunshots. The only thing that sounds approximate to shots are fireworks, read every story of a shooting, and there a have been over 3,000 of them in the last 3 years and every other one has a  witness to a shooting incident presuming that someone was setting off fire crackers or mortars. Besides these obvious discrepancies, the NYPD apparently felt they had to collar somebody, so they busted a man on marijuana possession (even though 8 oz of pot is legal to carry, which makes starting to sound like a drug deal gone bad).

Reading this tweet report in real time and being an active twitter denizen, I responded to Ms. Hemphill very curtly tweeting my skepticism with a simple retort; I don’t believe this. What happened 90 minutes later was the moment where my skepticism and also my cynicism about the NYPD’s investigation suddenly became validated with one word.

It was astonishing that my tweet got acknowledged, that it seemed ambiguous. Then it suddenly got unambiguous.

Then when the story broke on the evening news on PIX11 after the weather, correspondent Michelle Ross’s coverage of the Times Square incident interviewed a witness who heard the shots and ran off with everyone else as a crowd would do when shots get fired. But despite James The Nerd’s eyewitness account on his twitter account, which was truncated to a 10 second blurb, the NYPD relayed the same investigation results to Ross and she repeated it more like a stenographer than a journalist. The incident also got upgraded by the NYPD that included a pedicab that hit the victim. How this all correlates utterly makes no sense.

Then it gets stranger. Turns out James the Nerd on twitter who was at Times Square during the shooting/planter falling and in the middle of the stampede fleeing for safety, is James Chesney who was interviewed about the incident on PIX News.

It’s nothing short of amazing how conflicting PIX’s post on this incident that put out wo different headlines for their post and video. But this is expected when it seems the NYPD is exerting influence on this story to make it sound less extreme than it was.  Despite James’s eyewitness account of a man writing in pain on the ground from a bullet wound, who the cops wound up collaring on a pot charge and dragged him from the plaza in pain.

Mr. Chesney also describes how Michelle and her co-writer and producer of the story manipulated the interview and redacted practically all of what he witnessed; which apparently, or in this case allegedly a lot of nefarious activity was going on trying to cover up the shooting/planter collapse. What I and maybe James was witnessing was the operation of manufacturing consent in real time via the integration of government authority and the fourth estate.

And if you looked at the way it was covered on the PIX report, there are so many cops surrounding the victim, it’s virtually impossible to get a closeup on him and where he was wounded. Just like that, what was pretty much a cut and dry social media documented and eyewitness shooting incident got intercepted by the NYPD and suddenly morphed into just a huge misunderstanding. Despite no footage of a fallen planter or any video footage of pedicab in the vicinity.

Looking for better investigative reporting about the Times Square Planter Incident, the Daily News actually did quote Mr. Chesney’s account he gave to me on twitter, describing how the victim was yelling that he got shot which PIX extricated from their report and detailed the actual time of the shooting and the cops interrogation of the victim, but still wholly emphasized the NYPD’s bizarre coverup. ABC Eyewitness News only showed a brief video of the incident on their website that promised more details and never updated it even after a week. The NYPD abrupt revision of their investigation also made international news as well.

Even though there was a witness who claimed he was interviewed by multiple local corporate news stations, it’s a wonder why all of them joined in solidarity to report what is clearly a flawed investigation by the biggest police force in the world but it’s not wondrous at all of the NYPD’s desperate spin and memory holing of this incident, which was done with amazingly diligent execution; it all stems on current mayor Bill de Blasio’s and the Economic Development Corporation’s massively desperate and expensive effort to restore tourism in Times Square again after they spent 30 million dollars on national ads and who knows what on other city services to bring them back. An effort which has been marred by shootings and also rampant homelessness, random and targeted violence, open air drug dealing and petty crime hustling. And it’s even worse from the NYPD’s side after multiple orders to deploy more cops to the 7 block international mecca in order to protect tourists and local visitors.

The timing of the recent shooting that wasn’t there couldn’t have been more shitty for the city since it coincided with the arrival of a ferris wheel that got plopped down a block away from the incident and also an early morning shooting where a stray bullet pierced a window under the TKTS a few days earlier. Buffered by concrete bollards, barricades and two NYPD cruisers bookending the city’s latest and lamest attempt to attract tourists and their money back.

Picture taken two days earlier from the “Planter Incident”

Image

Ironically, what the city thought would be a new attraction to Times Square would actually wind up being useful to the NYPD to catch the shooter, because it’s clear that the footage from the tweet above showing the scattering crowd was taken from a carriage on the ferris wheel while it was paused.

When the current mayor showed up to the ride a few days later with his son and district council crony Keith Powers, the same vantage point can be seen as The Blaz blissfully describes the experience while in motion on the ride. The distinction being a markedly scarce crowd on the street below.

Surely The Blaz was in a jovial mood to make this video, thanks to the NYPD’s memory holing of the shooting, he didn’t have to hold a presser explaining himself and promoting a stupid boondoggle gimmick like a carny ride in Times Square would have been utterly tone deaf. But what all the parties involved here-the news media, the NYPD and the fiddling monster running NYC above-don’t and refuse to get is all their effort to revive the economy in the biggest tourist attraction in the world by redacting a crime immediately after it occurred and enabling it will not make Times Square and even the rest of the city any safer by hoodwinking and gaslighting the citizenry and tourists. And the real shooter is still out there running around on the streets and since it’s been determined that a planter fell and the culprit was an errant pedicab driver for the victim’s wound, there will be no report of this incident and possibly any surveillance footage from the dozens of cameras affixed to the lampposts and on commercial buildings in the area were memory holed as well. And lets not forget the NYC EDC’s role as well in this, because the city’s and notably Times Square’s recovery is being supervised by a notorious rogue retired police chief getting paid a salary and pension at the same time.

This collective negligent insouciance will eventually lead to someone getting actually killed next time. And with the way shootings are trending, it’s going to be sooner than we think. Then what alchemy de Blasio’s NYPD is going to conjure to undermine a victim bleeding out to death in the Square as they juke the gun violence stats in real time?

As the gun shot victim of the Planter Incident shows, anyone will just be collateral damage to ensure the optics of vibrancy in Times Square doesn’t get disrupted.

The Blowback Blight And Anarchy From NYC’s Open Restaurants Law

New York City, New York

COVID-19’s impact on New York City has no doubt fundamentally changed the environment, landscape and cuture of this city. It’s why this nation of ours had to suddenly print trillions of dollars to keep it resembling an imitation of normal to get money in people’s pockets and keep most businesses solvent where before we used to print it to pay for regime change wars and to assure the biggest banks remain too big to fail. It was basically a big class action settlement for government malpractice of our leaders response to the virus (and clearly the manufacturing of it thanks to Dr. Anthony Fauci).  And when the stimulus cash arrived to NYC, one of the first things that got fed socialist moneyed resuscitation was to the restaurant industry.

Since eating indoors was still a major risk of contagion for months on end last year, City Council and Mayor de Blasio addressed the existential threat the virus had on the dining and drinking industry and started the Open Restaurants initiative which lifted restrictions and eased regulations for restaurants to build sheds on the street curbs so patrons can come back and dine again outside of their establishments. Despite usurping parking spaces from residents, these businesses were able to recoup some losses and were able to make money again. The city also integrated this program with the Open Streets initiative to “re-imagine” public streets initially centered on cycling and pedestrian commuting by evolving them to plazas with the intent to foster community activity and keeping vehicular traffic out (both initiatives annoyingly prodded by bike zealot/car abolitionist lobby Transportation Alternatives). With the sheds on the asphalt, restaurants were able to extend their businesses by placing tables on the street, enabling to serve more customers. At the time it was logical and necessary.

Even though this was enacted for emergency purposes to keep businesses thriving in a still near dead city (with more prodding from agent of the city TransAlt weaponizing this program to banish cars)  the City Council Cronies and The Blaz decided to make restaurant outdoor sheds permanent, which was buoyed by a bill written by the State Senate and signed by Mario’s Son Governor Cuomo. Now even though restaurants are under the regulatory purview of the Department of Health, the Blaz left the responsibility of monitoring the street sheds under the Department Of Buildings. If this isn’t bizarre enough, the Department of Transportation seems are wholly left out of this even though the streets are officially under their purview. And as expected with the Blaz and the Council Cronies, they conjure these laws without considering the ramifications of them as some restaurants and even non-food related establishments opportunistically took advantage of the bureaucratic fugazi of  NYC’s Open Restaurants and Streets policy.

This egregiousness came to prominence when a member of community group L.E.S. dwellers encountered a curbside shed going through a re-imagining development in process in the East Village, catching the restaurant adding a second level to their shed  parallel with first floor apartment windows above the establishment and close enough to touch the branches on the tree above.

What the actual fuck indeed, what’s even more insane is that this restaurant just recently put up their normal ground floor shed, or to be more apt shanty, even though indoor dining was permitted after the city officially opened up at the beginning of July.

Surprisingly this shanty got an immediate stop work order a day after it went viral, even warranting a faux outrage tweet by Council Crony Margaret Chin, even though her vote enabled these owners to build their leisure duplex. But this being NYC, there are others that are able to get away with flouting the rules with impunity, even though because of the emergency edict placed on open restaurants that gives them a pandemic loophole to build bigger and denser on public streets there practically aren’t any rules anymore.

Popular youtube personality computer repair guru and small business owner Louis Grossman found some more shanties while just strolling around town where he works and one of them had doors like in a saloon, as he pointed out the distinctions between a shed that was safe for pandemic dining and ones that were basically houses on the street with no proper circulation, which defeats the purpose of stopping the spread of COVID. Then he encountered probably the biggest freak violator of all, an open restaurant with an air conditioner.

If there is anything positive to say about this is that it looks more like a bungalow than a shanty with all the windows installed. But it still looks like a cabin because they didn’t even bother painting it and it’s sure as fuck not definitely not safe from the delta variant if people are dining there on a hot muggy afternoon or balmy evening since the contagion is trapped as people are sharing microbes while eating, drinking and talking in close proximity.

Watching that video would give the impression that it’s probably the tipping point or nadir of the open restaurant phenomenon and that the D.O.B. will stop by and tell the proprietor to take it down but you’d be wrong.  Because these AC equipped cabins have set off an open restaurant land grab wave.

Documented by the lifestyle news website Eater, many high end dining establishments in high destination areas in Manhattan seized the opportunity given to them and set up AC’s for their own shanties,as well as other fixtures and locking doors that resemble modern day cabins or even Fedders apartment buildings. But absolutely nothing can compare to what two restaurants did on the same block in the small enclave known as Korea Town in Midtown nestled between Madison Ave and Herald Square, for these open restaurant structures are not mere shanties, they are practically street curb condominiums. Here’s a place called Osamil…

Really don’t get why the windows are so small, but they apparently slide open, those doors look like they belong in a horse’s stable. But one things for sure, they made that solar powered parking meter absolutely useless.

Mosey on down the block and we probably have the city’s most egregious and heinous public street space monopolizer restaurant indoor shanty claimed by Take 31, which takes the city’s re-imagining shock doctrine open restaurants policy to another level.

Look at these doors and windows, how can you possibly breath let alone spread the delta variant…

In case there is any wonder how these 4 A.C.’s are being powered, get a load of the electrical hookup. Remember, the Department Of Buildings is in charge of regulating these things, doubtful if you can get away with this if you hooked up something similar from your house to your garage.

Apparently when they were building this aesthetics wasn’t even on the agenda or even architecture or carpentry, but making this shitpost into a veritable ice box was. They equipped this with FOUR HVAC units. Apparently this was made for two establishments judging by the outhouse that’s built in front of a small restaurant next door.

If the sign demanding proof of vaccination wasn’t ludicrous enough considering there isn’t one pasted on the elongated outhouse on the street, what’s even more deranged is that the shanty is just under 10 feet across a building under development with scaffolding and bollards on the street, making it very treacherous for driving and cycling commuting.

Since the current mayor de Blasio and the City Council cronies joined in solidarity to legitimize these shanties under the rubric of safety because of COVID and the delta variant and by extracting the authority of the Department of Transportation from regulating these , it had to come at the expense of the safety of vehicular, cycling and walking commuters and a brazen example of the second expense lies on Bleecker St. in Noho.

Despite the presence of a bike lane, the proprietors of this open restaurant shanty blocked half of it, which if a regular citizen driver or the NYPD did this it would get photographed and pilloried by bike zealot social media accounts and would get a $200 citation by a traffic constable in real life.

Although the barricades set up makes it city designated open street designed to ban cars, it doesn’t prevent drivers from accessing the open restaurant area turning from Mulberry St., making riding pass this shitpost set up a perilous risk.

And the thing that’s remarkable about bike propagandists like StreetsBlog NYC praising open restaurants to the skies is that even when they are not violating traffic laws, the roads still don’t have sufficient space to ride a bike by them and makes driving more perilous despite the precautions taken by restaurant owners to make their structures more visible (like a house on the street wouldn’t already do that)

Of course can’t leave out the frustrations of the pedestrian, with insufficient walking space as these shanties make commuting by them a human gauntlet with people milling around and waiters and busboys going back and forth serving people. Ultimately forcing pedestrians with no choice to walk in the streets in the driving and bike lanes.

Surely pedestrian gridlock is a daily issue by this restaurant/bar/nite club in South Richmond Hill that actually built a tunnel by their establishment.

And since they already have an LED display sign, they can probably scan EZ passes to go through it. Although prospective burglars sure will appreciate the easy lift provided by the roof inches away from the apartment in the mixed use building.

While this outdoor dining set up one a mile west is more sad than egregious, but still a brazen hazard that has the potential to cause a blazing one.

It can’t be stressed hard enough what damage this shanty is going to do if one of this restaurants neighbors houses goes on fire, or even their own business (unless that hole was put there for that reason) considering an incident where a mixed-use building got torched on Bleecker St. because the FDNY couldn’t get around a shanty in front of the restaurant where the fire started on the ground floor. And never mind how flammable this and every other wooden shanty in NYC is vulnerable to any random kindling or arson attempt.

But what makes this restaurant more sad about it’s flaunting of fire codes is that it doesn’t have much of a choice with Bill de Blasio’s utterly fascist and unscientific vaccine mandate about to be unleashed on city establishments and venues, where the only way to keep non-vaccinated residents as customers is to keep them outside.

And if there is a shanty that’s a tinderbox waiting to explode, it’s got to be the one belonging to celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s five star Michelen steakhouse restaurant in Murray Hill. A set up so ostentatious it’s the Hamptons Mansion of open restaurant shanties in NYC.

To be fair, maybe Wolfie’s shanty resembles more like a Super 8 motel going by all these doors and key locks.

Looks like somebody tried to pick this one. Gotta admit that this shanty looks more safer and pleasing than the city’s homeless shelters.

What makes this the most special of open restaurant shanties is that it’s built on a steep incline with traffic going south. which means there are probably steps inside there. While it doesn’t have energy sucking HVAC’s it does appear to have what looks like an air purifier releasing whatever delta variant strains the customers are dispensing inside and releasing the contagion into the ether and onto the public. Which makes a mockery of the vaccine mandate rules by conveying this as a safe outdoor venue for microbe aerosol dispensing dining and nightlife leisure activities.

Besides the obvious haste to put these curbside bungalows up in order to opportunistically take advantage of the City Council and current Mayor’s Open Restaurant law, judging by the the exposed wood paneled wall entirely flushed against the 33rd St. Station stairwell, what’s curious is how to patrons get served inside that shanty?

Which means waitstaff and bussers have to maneuver through passerby with orders for the clientele and to clean up after them, causing more pedestrian gridlock on the sidewalk and from commuters exiting and entering the stairwell at the downtown staircase of the 33rd St. Station.

And get a load of this cable going into the restaurant. It’s only about 7 1/2 feet off the ground. It really doesn’t matter whether its a five star joint, these shanties are cheap and ugly and still vulnerable to cause contagion spread because of the indoor environment in addition to being a blatant electrical fire hazard.

The ironic thing about these shanties which purport to bring people and vibrancy back to city streets and also add a touch of European savoir faire while keeping more cars off the street in order to improve the environment, it’s ultimately done the exact opposite and has brought down the quality of life and environment in neighborhoods. Besides the horrendous site of mountains of garbage piled up against the structures and inside them and providing convenient shelter for a new generation of rats to feed and breed in them, these filthy shanties have brought forward a disturbing new trend of high end blight of rampant graffiti wholly comparable but more artless than the aerosol paint bombings of subway trains in the Bad Old Days in the 70’s-80’s. Which perfectly falls in line with the New Bad Days era of the last 5 years.

It’s really a wonder why anyone would even eat and drink in these shacks, but it’s ok because of emergency pandemic exemptions, the NYC Department Of Health doesn’t bother checking them out either. Which makes those restaurant grade posters on the windows moot since the DOH is not responsible to regulate the shanties because it’s the Department of Buildings role.

Some of these are also zombie shanties from restaurants that went out of business.

Although there are absolutely no rules about the open restaurants, some establishments that took advantage of the idiotic law don’t actually seem to serve food at all. Like the Basquiat gallery here, where there are clearly no restaurants in sight.

And this other artful shanty which is in front of a hookah lounge.

This one has valet parking…

But some of these non-restaurant establishments probably serve liquor, making them able to take advantage of the city’s generous loopholes, like this greenhouse in front of this nite club. Complete with HVAC and door and lock. Also defeating the purpose of preventing virus contagion.

And to think Transportation Alternatives declares that sights like this should be normal as their agitprop allies Streetsblog NYC whinnies about how these are better for the environment than the existence of cars and traffic. This shanty recently developed by a legendary lunchonette in the West Village instantly disproves their theories, which basically turns a tree into a periscope. With some very apt commentary graffiti pointing out the restaurants man made climate violation.

What Transportation Taliban and Bike Blog and their urbanist hives on social media make clear is how unconscious they are about open restaurants/streets and how neoliberal their agenda is because the shanties and barricades act as violent architecture against cars in the hopes to “induce demand” in personal vehicle commuting by frustrating drivers to forsake their cars. All in the hopes for the total banishment of the vehicle.

One thing’s overwhelmingly conclusive about the open streets/open restaurants is that because of the overzealous attention and prioritization to approve the open streets/open restaurants law for permanency, the NYC Council Cronies and de Blasio did this with absolutely no consideration for the residents at all and waited over a month to even announce any regulations for them, which according to the mayor’s office you tube channel have broken every rule that is still waiting to be written on the books. Despite all excuses of trying to govern and keep the city’s economy solvent during a pandemic, these unsightly space hogging and citizen obstructing shanties are the result of city planning designed by a kakistrocacy consisting of people disconnected from their constituents and real life.

And they will be literally disconnected in a few months because the idiot mayor and most of the idiot council cronies are term limited and won’t be around to see this open restaurants fugazi exacerbate. Thanks to the leniency and the steady presence of the more infectious delta variant, these restaurants, especially the high end expensive restaurants, will only build bigger and bigger.

Which will lead to perilous conditions for all commuters on wheels and foot, more eyesore blight, filth, garbage and rats on the streets. As long as the pandemic continues and continues to get exploited by the ruling class and the hospitality industry, the blowback and anarchy, like the shanties, will build bigger and badder and stinkier and fuglier.

Bill deBacle

The mayor of climate emergency

Central Park, Manhattan, New York, U.S.A

Current mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio might be suffering under a massive hangover after the abrupt ending of the final and biggest concert of his NYC Homecoming Week, which he and the New York City Economic Development Corporation planned nearly 3 months in advance, as remnants of Hurricane Henri hovered over Central Park and delivered some lightning bolts to force the concert promoters to kill the show after only 2 hours and in the middle of sappy songwriter Barry Manilow’s set.

Nothing couldn’t have been more apt of The Blaz’s incompetence and megalomania than when he went onstage and tried to salvage the festival by yelling at the crowd not to depart and promised the show would resume while shielded by a saran wrap slicker, only to have it kiboshed 8 minutes later. But it’s not like this wasn’t just spur of the moment desperation from the Mayor, because this idiot actually had held a press briefing with the NYC Emergency Mgmt. Commissioner to warn about Hurricane Henri’s arrival. At the exact time when the concert began at 5 P.M.

So The Blaz and the Emergency Dept. Commissioner John Scriviani knew the severity of the tropical storm, warned citizens to take precautions and to avoid any plans that would jeopardize their safety and they still allowed the show to go on. These two boobs knew the storm would be unpredictable and both acted like that Henri was just going to remain in Long Island until the next day. Ludicrously unscientific claims the Blaz made earlier in tweets 4 hours before he declared a state of emergency right when the We Love NYC concert first act was performing on stage (and about 6 hours after the current governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency!).

The Blaz being oblivious to the irony and of responsibility from his forecast and advice from his emergency agency, around 7:30 PM as the sun was setting Henri made his presence felt as the first bolts of lightening appeared. The music promoters sensing doom and actually cognizant of the National Weather Service warnings that were pinging their phones for two days like Commish Scrivani mentioned, cut Barry Manilow off and killed the lights, flashing a big sign for the vaccinated masses to evacuate. The Blaz, after big footing the stage of the last 4 homecoming concerts and standing by his #NoStoppingNewYorkCity hashtag credo came out and thought he could save the show and what manifested was as asinine as it was surreal.

The last time an elected official prioritized entertainment and leisure over the safety of the citizenry was the Mayor from the movie Jaws.

But since this real life and The Blaz valiantly and vainly tried to mess with the primal force of Mother Nature. Taking a cue from his self-made credo hashtag #NoStoppingNewYorkCity, the Blaz attempted to gaslight the vaccinated audience to hang out until the rain and lightning stopped and the show could resume for their safety (?!!!!) by suggesting to find shelter in a public park so they wouldn’t be easy targets, even though the only things passing for shelter are the trees, which are also lightning rods. Maybe the Blaz thought this was proper advice because he knew he had shelter waiting for him via the VIP guest tent or with his NYPD motorcade entourage.

The fact that he said this while wearing a ridiculous slicker in front of a jumbo screen warning ablazed in hot pink telling the audience to get out of harms way  established that this hysterical and hazardous moment where the Blaz out-did a mayor from a fictional movie and became the mayor of climate emergency. Never mind that only a few days earlier, lightning crashed at Orchard Beach in the Bronx where a 13-year-old boy got killed.  What’s even worse is the audience actually believed his gaslighting and came back to the lawn and decided to wait it out for a few hours.

Even though the concert was meant for the vaccinated only to attend, it shows that even though the vaccines can stop COVID, the vaccines can’t fix stupid.

After this fiasco, it’s definitely settled that de Blasio’s stupid is terminal and beyond repair and all it took was a tropical storm to prove it this time. But besides the fact that this show should have been at least postponed for another weekend, it should have been postponed weeks ago as the Delta Variant raised doubled the percentage of total COVID infections ever since the city dropped mask and distancing guidelines on July 1, as well as the other sparsely attended (because of the vaccine mandate and less than 50% of Black and Latino people vaccinated) 4 borough shows featuring all hip hop music and George Clinton being how a lot of middle aged rap legends have been dying and Dr. Funkenstein is vulnerable to the contagion at the age of 80. And it most definitely shouldn’t have been planned in the first place when the Blaz announced this show in June before the city was yet to be fully opened in September. Which is what’s even more maddening about Bill’s fiasco, this fool and the NYC EDC planned this Blazapalooza for 2 months (probably longer) and when it comes to actual crises and services like gun violence and the reopening of schools, the Blaz only prepares at a moment’s notice.

But at least the conclusion to the NYC homecoming week was a fitting finale for the Blaz, a self-serving self-promoting wretch who was only using this festival week clearly to build his national profile and personal mayoral legacy in addition for the wanton avarice of concert “curator” music mogul Clive Davis, the monopoly concert promoter and ticket seller Live Nation; and corporate news monolith CNN who lost millions of ad dollars losing 3 hours of broadcast time thanks to Henri’s foreboding presence.

It’s doubtful the Blaz is going to learn a thing from this debacle*, for his hubris is the reason why his concert got kiboshed but that same hubris is what’s actually been helping him get by his calamitous final year in office. Plus the whole world got to see what a jerkoff he is with his embarrassingly vain attempt to save his grand homecoming concert.

But now he’s run out of bread and circuses and now he has to do his actual job of governing, which he has done with such criminal incompetence through 8 years and with abhorrent juvenile conduct ever since the summer began. And with Cuomo finally gone in a few days, all scrutiny will be entirely focused on de Blasio and his kakistrotatic administration along with his policy decisions and internecine machinations

The “homecoming” is over and so goes his Summer of NYC no matter how much he tries to pretend its on and how much he tries to stretch it.

Oh wait.

NY Post

A giant Ferris wheel is coming to Times Square — and the idea is to roll out a welcome for tourists as the city looks to bounce back from the pandemic.

The massive amusement ride — which will stretch 110 feet high, the equivalent of 11 stories — will start getting assembled as soon as Thursday and be ready to hoist passengers high above the Crossroads of the World beginning early next week, The Post has learned.

The outsize attraction will be located just west of Duffy Square on Broadway between West 47th and West 48th Streets for about a 22 days, according to Vito Bruno, who heads up the Brooklyn-based entertainment company that’s behind the project.

“The city needs something fun, happy and nostalgic that brings you back to your childhood,” Bruno told The Post.

He added that he approached the Times Square Alliance about the idea several months ago, “and it’s been a sprint ever since,” with a myriad of permits, inspections and signoffs from multiple city agencies.

The Blaz Has Made The Comptroller’s Office Irrelevant

https://static01.nyt.com/images/2021/04/29/nyregion/29nymayor-stringer/29nymayor-stringer-mobileMasterAt3x.jpgMayor de Blasio, eating Scott Stringer’s lunch and shitting where he eats

New York City, New York

Now that his disastrous mayoral campaign is over and 30% of registered voters chose Eric Adams to be the Democrat nominee for Mayor, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer has gone right back to full-time work and dad gum it he is not going to take it anymore.

Stringer brought his stump back out and announced that Mayor de Blasio has held onto the city’s emergency powers and control of budget spending way too long, so he’s decided to take the Blaz to court to get them rescinded so he can manage the city finances again for the remaining 5 months of his term.

But for all the grand gesturing and authoritative shit talking, Stringer is just frontin’ like a punk, establishing once again why he got easily destroyed in the primary. Because the wimp allowed the Blaz to enact those emergency orders to control spending on a day one and did not say a peep about it knowing full well the mayor’s history of profligate wasteful and political patronage derived spending throughout his abominable two terms, enabling the Blaz to embark on a chronic gambler spending spree while exploiting his new authority throughout the pandemic.

What’s worse about Scotty’s sudden display of balls is that he hasn’t even literally got in the Blaz’s face about his chronic abuse of the emergency powe, which he revealed quite pathetically during a brief questioning from a  NY Post reporter who mockingly asked Stringer why it’s taking him so long to use his position as the city’s accountant to reclaim the reins of the city budget again from the unaccountable mayor’s idle hands.

Comptroller Stringer: “We have to come back time and time again to demand accountability and a court action is a last resort, common sense is a first resort, and we haven’t seen that in this administration and we are coming back with a court action because we have to get to the bottom of this”

NY Post: “have you actually spoken to him and (snicker) asked him if he (Blaz) was going to restore the actual safeguards that didn’t exist before?

Comptroller Stringer: “We gave him documentation and sent him no less than 4 letters and we can provide them”

NY Post: “But have you personally (chortle) spoken to him and asked him?

Comptroller Stringer: “I don’t have to speak to him to ask him by letter to do the right thing.”

NY Post: “But you haven’t spoken to him”

Comptroller Stringer: “No, I haven’t spoken to him personally”

Holy calamafuck, the NYC Comptroller never once confronted the NYC Mayor face to face and eye to eye about his repeated malfeasant emergency power grabs, which he reinstated 100 FUCKING TIMES  while spending 8 billion dollars on lousy contracts and financing dubious services that weren’t necessarily essential to the city during the “perfect storm of COVID19”. (Like open streets and bike boulevards)

For the last 16 months  since The Blaz mimicked Governor Cuomo by assigning himself emergency powers, Stringer took pussy to a new level, letting the Blaz make his government appointed job irrelevant and sat there and watched him piss away the city coffers from the start of the pandemic and even this year in our alleged recovery now that andemic restrictions have been rescinded by the state and national levels and in the five boroughs by the mayor himself.

The Blaz’s proclivity for profligacy was exposed immediately after he usurped the comptroller’s purview when he doled out a massive contract to deliver ventilators and masks to the city for nearly 120 million dollars to  tech accessory/hipster toy distributor and art dealer buddy David Trebele, who donated over $45,000 dollars to his 2017 re-election campaign and to both of his illicit PACs for his idiotic presidential run. After this political patronage deal went down as hospitals were getting swarmed with patients and were still perilously low on supplies, leading them to recycle their masks and wear garbage bags to protect themselves from COVID, Trebele’s LLC company Digital Gadgets failed to deliver the PPE’s and none of the 3000 ventilators that were ordered ever arrived. Comptroller Stringer, neutered of his elected role because of the evisceration of his duty and office to vet contracts with companies that had no record of doing any business with the city before, didn’t verbally say a single word until late August of the Blaz’s corrupt mishandling of his emergency powers for his buddy’s contract and subsequently abusing them to approve contracting for other city services in usurpation of Stringer’s supervisory elected duties.

It’s good in some way that the Comptroller is taking decisive and legal action now, mostly because the Blaz possibly can’t recycle his emergency powers now because the actual emergency has mostly dissipated because of the state’s and the city’s lifting of pandemic restrictions, although the delta variant has become the dominant contagion. But the Blaz doesn’t even acknowledge the severity of that strain so it’s really all about maintaining and micromanaging control of the city’s coffers. But Stringer’s belated action is a year and half late and 8 billion dollars short, because nothing happened when he sued the city back in November and the Blaz continued to control the city’s finances and weaken regulations while obfuscating and refusing to release city records concerning his budgetary decisions and most frighteningly the city’s health records and statistics during the pandemic since that’s the reason why the Blaz justifies his repetitive do-overs of the emergency powers.

It’s not like Stringer didn’t know what was going on, he knows the Blaz’s record and recidivism and all that was in monstrous form from the beginning of the pandemic to today, especially after the latest bloated reserves drained budget that was passed by Corey Johnson and the City Council cronies last week that the mayor will devour from in his final 5 months. But it’s quite apparent that Comptroller Stringer lost sight and relinquished his governing powers to the Blaz because of his own sad and vain quest for the mayor’s office and now that he’s lost he’s desperate to regain his significance as an elected official, which is pathetic after the way he’s been humiliatingly mocked and undermined by the Mayor, his taxpayer funded pogrom of lawyers and even by his little maggot press secretary Bill “Cry About it” Neidhardt, who never stops reminding the Comptroller about how his demands for accountability are nothing but political stunts to get media attention and not the fact that it’s his elected duty to demand accountability and also to moderate the city’s checks and balances.

“During the greatest challenge our city has ever faced, emergency procurements have saved lives, period,” said spokesman Bill Neidhardt. “The comptroller is clearly trying to use this lawsuit to keep himself in the headlines after his failed mayoral bid.”

But Big Bad Blaz’s little flack is not the only one to publicly make light and take advantage of Comptroller Stringer’s chronic fecklessness. Just as COVID-19 was about to attack NYC, The Blaz bought 17 decrepit apartment buildings that were being used as cluster housing for homeless people from two slumlords for $173 million dollars for 4 times of what the city initially offered for them so they would be added to NYC Housing’s farcical affordable housing program despite one of Comptroller Stringer’s “strongly worded” letters to him. The Blaz’s tax boondoggle wife Chirlie also treated Stringer like a doormat when she refused to provide details about her grotesque misuse of nearly a billion dollars for her mental health program THRIVE.

The abominable real estate lobby proxy office Economic Development Corporation also wiped their crusty dingleberries with Stringer’s strongly worded letters when he wanted more accountability for the wasteful spending on the tax dollar hemorrhaging  transit alternative NYC Ferry when they went along with purchasing $130,000,000 of new boats from a San Fransisco contractor despite it’s consistently daily low and strictly upper class commuter use. And last but not least, the Blaz diverted 30 million dollars of emergency funding provided by the Biden Administration’s stimulus bill to spend on a desperate national advertising campaign pandering to tourists to come to NYC.

At least one person has finally decided to back up the weakened comptroller and that’s the incoming one that is bound to take is place; Brooklyn Councilman and well renowned Brad Lscofflaw parking speed demon Brad Lander tweeted in solidarity in support for his lawsuit and demanded the mayor restore control over the city budget back to the Comptroller’s office. Even though Lander and his fauxgressive City Council Cronies never said a word or did a fucking thing while the Blaz was abusing his emergency powers and pushing his pay to play derived doling of city services to his overlord donors.

But Brad Pander’s demand exposes not only political expediency but also desperation, because if he and Eric Adams wins and the pandemic is still around, Adams will just cite the Blaz’s exploitation of emergency powers as legal precedence and make his job moot as well, leaving Lander as another feckless simp to walk on top on.

So unless Stringer can dredge something feasibly criminal against the Blaz, he’s pretty much going to be sitting on his taint for the rest of 2021 as his emergency powered emboldened nemesis continues his hedonistic spending, platitude/selfie tweeting and food consuming mayoral staycation and blissfully continue to still treat the Comptroller’s office like doesn’t exist.

Blaz’s Recovery Advisor’s Salary Double Dip And Washington Square Park Connection

I got it made

NY Post

The NYPD’s former highest-ranking uniformed officer is cashing in with his new gig at City Hall — thanks to a little-known legal loophole that allows him to collect both a pension and a taxpayer-funded salary, The Post has learned.

Retired Chief of Department Terence Monahan started collecting his $188,280 annual pension on March 28 while also earning a $242,592 annual salary as Mayor de Blasio’s new senior advisor, according to documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Law.

Retired public employees who are under the age of 65 and are collecting a pension are required to file paperwork — known as a 211 waiver — making the case for why they are uniquely qualified to collect an additional public salary.

The applications then go to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services or the New York State Civil Service Commission for approval. Without the waiver, the retiree is limited to $35,000 per year, according to state law.

But that approval was able to be sidestepped with Monahan placed on the payroll of the Economic Development Corporation — a city-funded nonprofit organization — following his February appointment to oversee the city’s safety planning for COVID recovery.

Pensioners who are employed by a public benefit corporation, like the city’s economic development arm, don’t need to file a 211 waiver, according to a 1997 decision by the city’s Law Department, DCAS spokesman Nick Benson said. The ruling has never been challenged in court.

On top of the dual income, the 60-year-old former cop is also still owed a hefty payout for unused days off, estimated at nearly $300,000, according to a review of his payroll records obtained by The Post. That lump sum payout is still pending, the city’s payroll office said.

Reached by phone recently, Monahan declined to comment on his pay.

Why should Terry comment, he’s the luckiest man and he’s got the easiest job in NYC right now and he acquired it by being a recidivist dirty cop while working under the most cravenly corrupt and cowardly mayor in NYC history.

For Terry winding up to become the deputy recovery czar in City Hall, he didn’t have to try that hard considering what he accomplished during the pandemic last year. First he tried to orchestrate a heist to steal a truck full of face masks and other PPE’s  meant for doctors, nurses and other essential workers in hospital services (most of whom did not even bother wearing face masks), which induced a stunning profane laden  reaction from the city’s former doctor health commish Oxiris Barbot, which led to her eventual phasing out and firing by the Blaz.

Then after the Mayor’s team arranged a media circus and stunt for the NYPD to feign solidarity for the policing public execution of George Floyd, which Monahan got on his knee and held hands with other BLM protesters, Monahan ordered a brutal NYPD offensive against hundreds of protesters who arranged a demonstration in Mott Haven in the Bronx by ordering cops to kettle them from both sides on the streets to prevent them from departing after the Blaz’s 8 PM curfew and letting them loose to viciously attack them as they walloped them with clubs, attacked them with bikes and also engaged in dogpiling individual demonstrators tactics the cops used with absolute gleeful expressions. This day of infamy in NYC as well as the other days of brutality the NYPD inflicted on protesters during that week of demonstrations got immediate condemnation by Human Rights Watch for the brazen suppression of free speech and free assembly and eventually was subjected to a thorough investigation by D.A. Letitia James leading to NY Senate and Assembly laws calling for the expunging of policing records of every cop on the force. It was most certain that the record of Chief Monahan and whatever abuses and violations he accrued throughout his career was bound to be revealed.

But when 2021 came and Mayor de Blasio laid down the base for the”recovery for all of us” mission as expose’s of rogue cops and disciplinary actions were starting to mete out (however incrementally), The Blaz did his usual machinating and bailed out Monahan and transferred him to NYC Economic Development Corporation Dept. to be the deputy czar of the city’s recovery immediately after he resigned and traded in his acquired uniform for a bureaucrat’s suit, thereby acquiring his cherry six figure pension while getting a bigger six-figure salary while also exempting him from D.A. James disciplinary probes in his new position as an “advisor”

When asked about Monahan’s city salary double dip, The Blaz was asked if this profligate use of taxpayer dollars for one man and his advisories has resulted in any dividends in services for the city as well as it’s recovery and security. It’s a waste of time to print de Blasio’s response because he predictably didn’t give one, but recent events have showed that Monahan has taken to his suit as a do nothing bureaucrat very well.

Presumably, the justification for Monahan’s shady transfer and presence in City Hall and the EDC is because his career and experience as a police officer would be that he would give sage advice for keeping the streets safe and ensure economic gains and a return of tourist activity in the city’s popular destination areas like Times Square. But look at what’s happened there since the weather got nicer, two shootings and four people hit by stray bullets despite a massive police presence and surveillance cameras on every lamp post and building and vagrancy and other petty crimes as not subsided as well.

Then there is the issue of Washington Square Park, which as become a quasi-autonomous zone which daily open air drug abuse  and nightly relentless noise pollution from all-night DJ ragers and yelling from transient denizens of the greenpace loitering past the parks closing, under the watchful eyes of de Blasio’s NYPD, who are clearly under orders to maintain their surprisingly tolerant behavior despite demands by residents for them to take action and despite the blowback from their collective inaction resulting in slashings and assaults in the vicinity.

Which makes it a wonder why the cops have been standing down so long from enforcing the normal curfew and allowing these baccanalias and calamitous events to continue. Turns out that the man who kneeled along with the former Chief Monahan  for de Blasio’s NYPD’s gaslighting solidarity photo op for the George Floyd/Black Lives Matter movement is David “Shaman” Ortiz, who just happens to promoter of the WSPAZ DJ ragers and also for illegal unsanctioned public boxing matches that are held right by the Arch the cops are protecting. And it’s quite clear that they are protecting Promoter Ortiz party plans as well, which gives the impression that this guy has been giving de facto permission and permits in the park as part of the city’s recovery for all of us, giving de Blasio the optics to declare the Summer of NYC is off to a rousing successful start. Maybe that’s why the Blaz is confident that the violence and noise in WSP will take a natural course back to normalcy.

https://cdn.extra.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/03135924/nypd-terence-monahan-3.jpghttps://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/06/david-ortiz-0.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=618&h=410&crop=1

Ortiz has not been shy about this symmetry either nor his contempt for the residents of this district and he can’t help himself from talking shit about it too.

“This is my response to the residents, If you have an issue with amplified sound and you live in the downtown area, you live in the Washington Square Park area, then you should move.”

Can’t really blame this opportunistic reprobate for his hubris, especially when looters were able to capitalize from last year’s BLM protests that got the majority of the police response and aggression last year as they ransacked every high end designer clothing and jewelry store in Soho and every small business in the middle and lower AMI income town Fordham in the Bronx with hardly any effort at repression from the NYPD. Also revealing is that these lootings were still continuing throughout 2020 even without the presence of protests ahead of them. Protests also continued sporadically during last year too and guess which public activity got the bigger police response again? All this impunity and abuse of authority made possible under the purview and the street policing decisions of former chief Monahan.

Now that Monahan is making a half million dollars this year and felonious crimes and shootings making distressing upward trajectories, it’s a wonder if his advice and his presence at the city’s abominable EDC office is actually being detrimental to the city’s recovery and also if he is giving bad advice on purpose since it’s highly doubtful he’s going to remain a city worker when this hellish final year of the Blaz is over. Looks like the current circumstances makes it clear he still as much a human profligate tax boondoggle and moral hazard to the city as he was when he was wearing a white shirt being an abusive and disconnected high brass cop and police chief.

And he’ll continue to get away with it. Because the lawlessness that’s gripped the streets doesn’t hold a candle to and is only an extension of the bureaucratic anarchy directed by the Blaz in City Hall.

Gangbangers are getting meticulous

“New Yorkers are vaccinated in record numbers. The Summer of NYC is here; there’s no better time to visit, and we’ll continue to cheer on our city’s recovery”

Deputy Press Secretary for Bill de Blasio, Mitch Schwartz

Here we go again, Mitch. Stupid asshole.

Bronx

In Mount Eden, a man chased another man with a gun on the sidewalk in a gang related attack. While being goaded by his fellow gangbangers to slay him in broad daylight, the gunman’s target ran directly into a 13-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy as they were about to enter a bodega to buy candy as he tried to find a place to hide and then he fell on top of them, causing them to fall on the pavement with him. Then the gunman circled around and stood over the man and the two kids and shot at him 12 times while trying to shoot around the children as if he was doing heart surgery. Then he ran away and got on the back of a scooter and rode away with an accomplice after he emptied his clip. The gangbanger managed to hit his target on both legs and plugged him on the back. The victim was brought to a hospital by his allies in a stolen car with temp plates.

Almost certain mayoral candidate Eric Adams personally offered a reward for 2 large for anyone to identify the soulless psycho, whose wanton and ruthless intentions have left the two kids traumatized and unable to sleep from the ultraviolent attack. The New York Yankees gave the kids and their parents free tickets to watch them beat the A’s.

The NYPD found the gangbanger and arrested him. Turns out he was still under supervision after finishing 2 years of parole after serving time on a conviction from an assault, though that didn’t stop him from robbing a person at knifepoint last year. And it apparently couldn’t convince a judge from convicting him for that crime. As for the man and actual target that caused this national/viral interest story, he was let loose on the streets after cops caught him with a semi-automatic gun last year while he was still on parole for previous weapons charge the year before.

Also in Mount Eden, a man that was left for dead on a park bench with his body bruised and battered died 2 weeks later from his injuries.

Also in Allerton, a man chased after another man into an apartment building with a gun in his hand with little children running along with the target. This incident happened over a month before the lead story and video above with that psycho shooting around two kids to kill his mark went viral.

This fucking city.

Again in Allerton, a duo and a trio of men engaged in a shootout on a residential block and missed each other as stray bullets broke through house windows.

In Tremont, two young men ran up to a Benz and shot a man to death who was sitting inside in broad daylight.

And again in Mott Haven, a man got shot to death from getting blasted in the back multiple times by a gunman who ambushed him as he was going up a flight of stairs between two avenues.

And again in Mott Haven, a man stalked another man on the sidewalk and then ran up to him and bashed him on the head with a cobblestone and then kicked his head and his body while he was on the ground and grabbed another stone and bashed him with it. The victim is afflicted with sickle-cell anemia and is lying catatonic barely able to speak. The NYPD caught the lunatic 3 weeks later and was found to be on parole.

And again in Mott Haven, a man got dropped off at a hospital with a bullet in his torso.

And again in Mott Haven, a man slugged another man in the face and knocked him down inside a bodega and then he robbed his cellphone.

And again in Mott Haven, a man got shot to death on the sidewalk in broad daylight.

And again in Mott Haven,  man volunteering for Mayoral candidate Eric Adams got into an argument with two men and then one of them charged him with a knife and stabbed him twice and then he walked away with his accomplice. The assault weapon was found on the sidewalk along with an icepick that belonged to Adams’ canvasser.

Blood and an Eric Adams campaign poster are seen on the sidewalk on Morris Avenue near E. 150th Street in the Bronx, after an Adams campaign worker was stabbed on Sunday, June 20.

And again in Mott Haven, a decomposed dead woman’s body was found by a crane operator in a lot where a luxury public housing tower is being developed. There was a time when something like this would go unnoticed in Fort Apache.

Also in Unionport, a man got shot to death on the street on a street corner from a bullet to his back and neck.

In Charlotte Gardens, a man loitering on a street corner with other men pulled a gun out and fired at someone across the street. At least this menace to society had the tact to wait till children and passerby were not in the area when he tried to kill someone.

In Jerome Park, two men jumped a 17-year-old boy inside of a deli and beat him down in the aisle and stabbed him in the midsection and ran away with his sneakers.

In Hunts Point, a gang of three men surrounded an off-duty cop in front of a bodega and beat him down with their fists, broomsticks and a baseball bat in broad daylight.

Also in Van Nest, a man shot another man in the torso to settle an argument on the corner.

Again in Van Nest, three men forced themselves into a 61-year-old man’s house when one of them feigned to be a delivery man and then they held up the homeowner and his wife at gunpoint and tied him up. Then they combed the place and found and robbed $100,000 and split in an SUV.

In Wakefield, a man on a scooter rode by a double-parked SUV and shot at the driver and passenger sitting inside and then ran towards them up the street pointing his gun at them as the driver backed up.

In Woodlawn Heights, a man sneaked into the basement of a church and stole a gold cross worth over $10,000. That’s a lot of bling to honor the son of God. The thief turned out to be homeless man on parole after serving time for arson.

Manhattan

In Times Square, a man with a gun ran down the sidewalk and shot at a group of men and missed, causing the bullet to ricochet off a building wall and hit a man in the arm who was standing outside of a hotel with his wife and relatives.

Because the unwitting victim is a Marine and the son of a retired military officer/intelligence official and being that it was the second shooting incident in less than a month in the Square, The Blaz and Chief Harrison wasted no time and decided to “flood the zone” with another deployment of 50 cops in the biggest and most precious tourist attraction in the world.

Despite the bigger and redundant police presence, tourists are cognizant of the predominant crime wave and even more wary of walking on the streets in the vicinity. Although if there’s any consolation for the Blaz, some tourists seem to find the disturbing rise of violent criminal activity as a new novelty attraction.

Also in Times Square, two men and two teenagers jumped and beat down a tourist while she was walking on the sidewalk and stole her cellphone and wallet. One of the muggers left a bag with a gun inside by a hot dog cart. All of them got caught a short time later because there are hundreds of cops in the area plus there are surveillance cameras with facial recognition tech on every corner lamppost.

Again in Times Square, a woman died after getting hit by a taxicab while crossing the street at 4 a.m.

And again in Times Square, the vaccine site the Blaz set up so Broadway theater workers and actors and tourists can use to make the city recover for all of us got immediately shut down after it was discovered they inoculated people with expired doses.

And again in Times Square, a man whipped out his johnson and flogged it in front of tourists and passerby in the pedestrian plaza.

In Washington Square Park, a man called a cop profane racist remarks after he was being told to step away from a patrol van and then ludicrously proclaimed that his own race is incapable of being racist. The bigot, who works as a porter at NYU, also profanely taunted and threatened another cop who was sitting in his patrol vehicle.

The bigot got arrested at JFK airport  when he got caught possessing an automatic rifle he swiped from a shooting range in Texas.

Also in Washington Square Park,  actual illegal boxing matches took place by the Arch surrounded by a crowd of salacious revelers egging them on.

The promoter of this wanton ultraviolence would arrange another night of boxing matches complete with a fireworks coda a few weeks later after he defiantly proclaimed residents in the Village who are disturbed and perturbed by the chaos in the WSP autonomous zone should just move the fuck out. Psychopath.

Again in Washington Square Park, two men were slashed and a woman got trampled on the ground after a gang of ten men got into brawl in a crowd during a dj rager set on the evening de Blasio’s NYPD ended the 10 PM curfew. The instigators/participants of the ruckus all escaped. In another part of the WSPAZ, a man witnessing an argument between two men got attacked by them when they saw him filming their dispute on his cellphone and they beat him down to pavement and stole his phone.

The same and only Arch that the NYPD is guarding every night.

And again in Washington Square Park, a man went ballistic after getting into a shouting match with other men and whipped out a knife and a flashlight taser in each hand during a brawl with them, causing hundreds of denizens running away in a stampede and trampling over a woman who was only walking in the park with a friend. The man was released on his own recognizance without parole 2 days later. I hope the WSP Mutual Aid Fund hangs a do not admit poster to give to the cops guarding the arch.

And again in Washington Square Park, a statue was found covered in graffiti on all sides.

And again in Washington Square Park, fireworks went off, motorcycles were rode and three ragers went on at the same time inside the park which went on past curfew and the NYPD were given orders to do nothing about it.

And again in Washington Square Park, people looking to party in the park to celebrate Gay pride day suddenly got surrounded by a militia of cops in riot gear and on bikes. The presence escalated hostilities and a clash between the revelers and the cops ensued as cops doused them with pepper spray which incited reactions from the LHBTG crowd, leading to eight arrests after water bottles were thrown at cops and a woman bit an officer.

Amazing how the NYPD has shown tolerance and restraint while witnessing drunken raves, motorcycle riding, vandalism, illegal boxing matches at the park for weeks, letting WSP turn into a virtual autonomous zone, but when gay and transgender people come down to celebrate gay pride day at the park, their day of all days, suddenly there’s repression enforcement. If you are going to supervise a dystopia, you really can’t be selective about public baccanalias.

And again in Washington Square Park, three men and a woman got into a squabble with revelers celebrating gay pride and then with cops who told them to take down a homophobic sign they were holding up with a metal pole that was enraging the crowd.

And again in Washington Square Park, an argument initiated by a couple towards three food vendors who were haggling over prices and an irrational demand to give them ice with their soda (the ice that is used to cool soft drinks) escalated into a ruckus when someone demanded that the vendor take down little American flags and replace them with Rainbow flags.  After one of the vendors said something offensive to the unruly customers, a mob formed then swarmed and attacked the vendors and hit them with a hot sauce bottle and soda cans. A woman punched the elder vendor, who wound up with a bloody gash on his head as he hit the ground as the cops watched from across the street under the Blaz’s orders to stand down and guard the Arch and let the chaos at the park just naturally end itself.

In the West Village, a mentally disturbed homeless man walked into a diner to use the restroom then got into an argument with the waiters and the cook who told him to leave. When the cook tried to walk him out, the man grabbed him and shoved him into one of the windows and ran into Washington Square Park where three of the cooks co-workers captured him so the cops could arrest his crazy ass. The Staycation Mayor

Image

Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York.

The Summer of New York City during the still happening pandemic is only about a week old and Mayor de Blasio was just exposed strutting around town in a ludicrous, unbecoming and inappropriate get up for a man in his elected position and with numerous crises that are still happening under his purview as the Blaz has in short time transitioned from the Mayor Of NYC to the Staycation Mayor of de Blastopia. The Blaz showed up at a playground in Bushwick dressed like a flamingo neanderthal and that corpse from that weekend 80’s movie, grinning like an idiot and posing for pictures to be dispensed on social media in an obvious attempt to distract the press from reporting from the malaise happening on the streets and in his administration and the persistent threat of COVID-19’s Delta Variant.

Look at this fucking hipster, brought to you exclusively by his faithful patsy flack Bill Neidhart

Apparently Mr. Bill sees nothing wrong with the optics of this knowing full well how loathed his boss is to over half the city’s constituents, what’s even more inappropriate is the Blaz is partaking in games with children and beating them, most recently in a kickball game with his schools chancellor as a teammate (??!!). But more appalling is the way the press is reacting to this on the twitter. Not asking them to say anything bad, but after the way the Blaz has been treating them it be better if they don’t say anything at all (which is how Blaz wishes it could be).

Especially coming from local corporate news daily spokespeople like Michelle from Eyewitness News:

After giving my eyewitness observation, the long-time veteran news lady did a cut and run tweet and decided to deny my existence. Way to prove my point about accountability and transparency in the news.

Speaking of transparency, The Blaz can’t be any more clearer that he’s trying his goddamndist to distract everyone and avoid confrontation with the realities that he doesn’t want to see much less the ire of his constituents by crashing children’s summer playtime activities and turning them into safe spaces to avoid scrutiny

On a high note, no post about the Blaz can be complete without him naturally fucking up. In his narcissistic zeal to promote himself and his self-serving hashtag summer initiative, he posted a picture of him wearing his shades on the city’s government account and the reflection caught something quite as inappropriate as his dumb ass shirt.

The more this idiot keeps screwing around the future of NYC is going to have more blight. But he’ll just switch those shades for the rose colored ones he’s been wearing for 7 and a half years.

This post is dedicated to MIke Gravel and you too Michelle Charlesworth.

The Washington Square Park Autonomous Zone

Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York

Washington Square Park, a green space of historic societal and cultural events and a pleasant environment to sit in solitude or socialize. A place where the likes of Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsburg hung out on the regular, nurturing the scenes of the nascent folk phenomenon and the beat poet movement that would change and influence music and literature forever. WSP would continue for decades to be a destination for all kinds of progressive demonstrations and protests, a place to play an intense game of chess and a convenient place to score a bag of weed, which continues to this very day.

But with the pandemic seemingly fading into the past after a year of collective seclusion and restrictive guidelines, a new history in a very short amount of time has unfolded and it’s one of upheaval and civil unrest and societal decay, with hard drug abuse being consumed in broad daylight and DJ ragers late at night even after the parks closing time. The new generation of denizens as turned the WSP into a governor’s ball festival every night.

Although the general consternation about how Washington Square has become a veritable den of iniquity, the park has been actually going downhill for about a year now since the pandemic began and was initiated by a sole homeless man name John Meshefski  claimed and occupied the then cordoned off area around the fountain for about 2 months in the late spring and strutted around nude like he was the last man on earth. Not long after as pandemic guidelines were slowly lifted, NYU students started to throw the first of the weekend all night DJ ragers with zero repression from the NYPD.

This spring and summer, with pandemic restrictions gone, residents of the WSP area have come to find this nightly occupation of the park the biggest threat to the neighborhood since Robert Moses threatened to plow over it with asphalt for vehicular traffic. Which as exacerbated since Mayor de Blasio’s decision to defer his authority to the NYPD to take proactive measures and institute a 10 p.m. curfew which led to total chaos as revelers fought with cops trying to get back in and then got chased across Noho.  The failure of that initiative has led to even more nightly baccanalias with booze fueled raves. Despite the claims of community vibes unhampered by police intervention, blowback from brazen park violating activity led to two people getting slashed during one of these ragers, aping what happens on occasion at your regular nite clubs.

Village residents fed up with the NYPD’s alarming insouciance after the failed curfew, the Chief Rodney Harrison and other high brass cops arranged a town hall meeting with them to tell them that their concerns would be addressed (actually they are complaints). The NYC Parks commissioner also gave a token assurance to the frustrated audience that the cops will have a more robust presence to tamp down noise and other illicit behavior. Meanwhile outside, a crowd of advocates for the hard partiers gathered and held there own town hall on the street and got into virulent debates with residential passerby.

Then when Friday arrived, all that was said and promised by Harrison or other high brass cops to bring back a semblance of normalcy to Washington Square Park yielded nothing. But there were other things going on during the day and night’s festivities that were interesting.

Arriving the official start of the weekend at 5 P.M. and got immediately hit with an infernal racket of some guy screaming and warbling into a microphone. Upon closer inspection and it was none other than the big Meshefski himself from last year’s New York Post chronicles of his occupation and naked frolicking. Mr. Meshefski, still homeless and clearly not of sound mind (although he can afford a mic and an amplifier) was singing and cursing up a cacaphonic storm for about 30 minutes until NYC Parks Police arrived and stunningly let him finish his a crapella routine instead of confiscating his speaker and detaining him.

Despite the stunning lack of reasonable repression, the Parks cops strategy worked and Mr. Mishefski complied and shut his mic down and departed from the fountain, but he resumed his racket on the promenade when other people started blaring music full blast.

Despite the cacophony it wasn’t that oppressive if you walked to other spaces (although I’m sure the sound carries in the ether above and outside) and seen people selling their creative wares, people exercising their religious beliefs and bump into a few busking musicians. Or what our local elected leaders like to refer to as “vibrancy in action”. Not to be crotchety, but people ruin things when they turn things like enjoying a day in the park into talking points.

Anyway, to quote any regular citizen, it was all good.

\

Although there was hardly any shooting up or crack smoking (probably have to show up early in the day to check out Wash Sq. Hampsterdam), people smoking pot and drinking booze were being done discreetly just as during the days of Giuliani and Bloomberg time when there was a NYPD command post parked at 4th St. All in all, the scene at WSP was copacetic. As for the cops, their presence was astonishingly small considering what they told residents a few nights before.

And right at sundown, came the motor scooters…

This gang would come in spurts throughout the day and night, riding around the fountain and by people sitting on benches with total impunity. The predominant demographics of young and youngish people at the park didn’t mind them at all, and some older holdover park goers handled it with visible jadedness.

Although obnoxious and disturbing, these bikers  wasn’t the most outlier presence going on in the park, as there was something here amongst the free-for-all going on in Washington Square that actually stood out and explained all this commotion and illicit behavior was going down here.

Situated in the back of the Arch entrance, a bunch of chairs and a picnic table was set up by a group of White women and men and it was suddenly covered with dozens of pizza pies. It was a wonder how they thought they were going to get away with selling food without a visible license or permit but that theory went south after it was revealed that they were giving away pizza slices for free.

They were also giving away free water, clothes, books and menstrual products as we

According to the chalk bulletin and agitprop on the concrete, this charity drive was arranged by an organization known as WSP Mutual Aid which to be presumptuous is some kind of non-profit group to help the poor and needy.

Upon further observation, the people who were partaking in all this charity were not even poor people, but everyone that was hanging at the park at the time. Everyone under 30. And upon a little more observation, this charity org doesn’t like cops at all.

The scene around this gathering was also accompanied by a gaggle of photographers and some journalists, probably here to cover the potential clash between the people and the cops once the park’s scheduled closing arrived at midnight.

But at the moment darkness fill the sky, it got foreboding on the ground. High brass officers and cops showed up with a bunch of barricades and started cordoning off the Arch and part of the entrance/exit ways. It looked like they were going to honor the Village residents complaints and make a serious move the quell the festivities going on in the park.

Not exactly, what they actually did is made a fortress around the arch in order to protect it from vandals. Then all the cops went inside the barricades and stood guard under it and stayed put, so they basically and willingly put themselves into a pig pen. (Surprisingly no one noticed that at the time.)

After they did this, the cops stood down inside there and the park got more raucous and the bass got louder as a rager manifested on the south east side of the park and it was lit up. Literally, lit up.

As the minutes got closer to midnight, the park was still at peak vibrancy. The park denizens didn’t even notice or gave a damn about the NYPD’s presence. Amongst the cacophony of cranked music and loud chatter of the thousands of people in the park that night, the WSP Mutual Fund distinctively stuck out. Instead of packing up their goods as the parks closing time was getting closer, they maintained their makeshift community station and more people assembled in their space. Plus they ordered more pizza to give away for free and laid out more free clothes to grab.

Image

What’s going on here in Washington Square Park is in all essence an autonomous zone. Everything that’s happening is similar in spirit to the CHAZ movement in Seattle. Complete with music performances and an independent marketplace.

The difference being is that its all being ironically monitored and chaperoned by the NYPD. Another ironic thing is the brazen and glaring issue that all this free grub and apparel were obviously not going to the needy because there were any homeless people around at all. The only people enjoying the charity was the revelry. The only thing this WSP Mutual Fund organization is doing is brazenly enabling the nightly rackets and after hours loitering.

Image

Apparently, the only thing this WSP Mutual Fund and their donors and benefactors are actually contributing here is to make Washington Square Park a local and free version of a Bonaroo or Lollapalooza festival and a complete takeover of public space, which they ironically accuse Greenwich Village residents of doing all because they are disturbed by the noise and potential violence every night.

It’s 12 AM, do you know where your abolitionists are?

When the clock struck twelve, voices coming from the WSP mutual fund crowd were yelling “whose park, our park” and the cops stood at ease. (Well, actually they were just having conversations or texting and reading celly messages). And the noise in the park was still at a high level, but the atmosphere was somewhat a version of calm. But about 40 minutes later, a man decided to settle an argument with some other fellows by whipping out a knife and flashlight shaped taser, which caused a stamped of people fleeing the scene and wound up bloodying and bruising a woman who happened to be taking a stroll with a friend.

It may be hard to believe, but cops stepped out from their post and dutifully arrested the perp and escorted him out of the park and people returned to the park and resumed partying down after the harrowing incident. So what Chief Harrison has done with his promise to the residents in the Village here to mitigate the nightly ruckus was to have the NYPD act as glorified security guards of the Arch and glorified bouncers for the Washington Square Park autonomous zone.

It isn’t like Chief Harrison lied to these people, because this is the city’s policy regarding the contentious issue that is the WSPAZ; for Mayor de Blasio, who has been on a lysergic dementia high lately, is relying on his certainty that the cacophony and violence is going to find a way to naturally fade away. Plus this deranged theory is in lockstep with his deranged narrative that the aurally volatile environment happening in the park every night is confirmation of the city’s recovery. It’s no wonder why sociopaths like this event promoter is mocking the NYPD and the Village residents by telling them to move out and organizing boxing matches by the Arch.

They can try their hardest, but look at how many people are here,” said Olivia Stevens, an 18-year-old college student from New Jersey, who comes to the park “because the suburbs are boring and my friends and I have nothing else to do.”

“Nothing is going to stop us from showing up,” she said.

If there is any wonder where Police Commissioner Dermot Shea has been regarding this, all he can do is feebly vent because his boss The Blaz, who has been  will not let anything disrupt his hashtag Summer of NYC initiative and will do anything to keep his delusory version of Fun City devolve into Fear City. So the Washington Square Park Autonomous Zone is going to remain as long as the nights are still heated.

The park is theirs.

NYC’s Feckless Officials Finally Help NYC’s Homeless Services…Guards

AMNY

With homelessness one of the most pressing issues in the 2021 mayoral race, it’s more important than ever that those on the street have somewhere safe to sleep. Oftentimes, that means a non-profit shelter. Yet many of the private security officers who work at these shelters are paid so little they can barely afford health insurance  – and are even in danger of homelessness themselves.

Now the New York City Council and Mayor Bill DeBlasio are moving to change this, committing 40.5 million dollars to ensure that these essential workers are paid fair, livable wages.

“For over 4,000 working families – their lives are going to change, this year,” said Mayor DeBlasio at a press conference this afternoon. A group of working people, each wearing union shirts, stood behind him. “You can’t ask someone to help solve one of the most challenging problems in society, but not give them enough to put food on their tables, or pay their rent, or take care of their families.”

His description was borne out by a number of speakers. Homeless shelters can be rife with violence; yet many security officers are paid minimum wage, barely enough to sustain an individual, let alone a family.  “We cannot afford to live in the city we work,” said Shaquille Sheppard, a private shelter security officer who himself grew up in-and-out of shelters. “Private security jobs are poverty jobs.” Kyle Bragg, president of Local 32BJ, a chapter of the Service Employees International Union, substantiated this, saying that, “while helping the City’s most vulnerable, many of these workers struggle to afford things themselves,” and, “may even find themselves homeless.”

According to a recent survey, shelter security workers – over 90% of whom are people of color – are more than four times as likely to be homeless or uninsured than the average New Yorker. At the same time, some 48% of those surveyed said they are inadequately trained. In somewhere as dangerous as a homeless shelter, this can mean the difference between life and death. That these shelters cannot even sustain the people they employ – people whose work is essential to the City – is a cruel and vicious irony and one that the pandemic put into even starker relief.

Mayor de Blasio, who promised to end the tale of two cities, and City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and his Democrat majority City Council Cronies waited 8 years to finally do something about the homeless crisis by finally allocate funding for a long overdue wage hike for homeless shelter security guards. Sure there’s nothing wrong with wanting to give the people more money especially when tasked to supervise the city’s notoriously violent and decrepit homeless shelters. But there are a bunch of conflicting problems with this.

First, why haven’t the non-profit providers of these city shelters who are already receiving city funding already gave these security guards the living wages they needed?

Another concern stems from The Blaz’s recent decision to kick all the homeless out of hotels who were sent there from the over-packed shelters to protect them from contracting and spreading COVID19 during the pandemic the last year. All of sudden, the Mayor felt that the time had to come to stop relying on hotels to shelter the destitute because they were not good environments (even though most of these hotels were high end ones in Manhattan and Brooklyn and the homeless people naturally really liked them) and he determined it was safe to put them back into the city’s regular shelters where they could get the health and human services they need (why weren’t these services available at the hotels where they were residing in the last year?). The Blaz also willfully neglected to mention that most of his shelters were still hotels, just in far away enclaves like Eastern and Southeastern Queens and Southeast Brooklyn because his promise to build 90 new shelters in the last 4 years has not been fulfilled.

And it’s clear that he’s chomping at the bit to shuttle the homeless people out of upscale hotels that did no business in 2020 for the mayor’s self-serving recovery for all of us and his hashtag Summer in NYC initiative, which includes vaccine staycation hotel room giveaways to his constituents. It should also be pointed out how Corey Johnson clearly exploited this publicity stunt for a potential ad featuring his anecdote of being homeless himself.

But the biggest problem with this allocation is that it seems to do nothing to help the homeless people but funds the people that police the homeless instead. There’s no guarantee that paying security guards more will ensure safety in these shelters and the hotel shelters.

Besides de Blasio’s tone deaf statement after waiting too long for these once faceless security guards to be able to afford to live in this/your city, his message unsaid about this abominable discrepancy for the displaced and faceless victims of the city’s homeless and housing crises is let them eat pizza.

Bastard.

Update:

I was informed that I made some mistakes about the 32BJ union, they did not donate to or endorsed de Blasio’s quix-idiotic presidential campaign, that was the hotel and hospitality union and 32BJ is a property services union. I apologize for the errors, which I deleted from this post, and also the fact that these security guards had to wait 8 years to be properly compensated.
